On tonight's game:
"We responded at half time. We came in at the half disappointed so give our guys credit. We came out on a mission on both sides of the ball. It was a great team win. Our players took the challenge and responded."
On Klay Thompson & Stephen Curry:
"I'm astounded that Klay Thompson is not in the Rookie/Sophomore All-Star game. He's a heck of a player and he's only going to get better. Stephen Curry shot the ball well. He had a good rhythm and he ran the offense. He only had one turnover. He played the game tonight in total control. His stat line is a thing of beauty. It was a great performance by him. It's important for us to win games no matter where we are. We did that tonight and I feel good about that."
Stephen Curry
On the 2nd Half:
"Coach ripped us at halftime about our effort, [we were] a little fatigued, they beat us in transitions and beat us in all hustle plays. He got into us, just to make sure our effort was there. He said if we lose the game and our effort is there, we are playing 100 percent on every possession, he's fine with that. But our effort was just awful so we had to come out and get defensive stops and when we got stops we were able to run and get out into transition and we were able to execute our offense really well and knock down open shots. Our dribble penetration, kick-out game was flowing tonight."
On his matchup with Ty Lawson:
"It felt good that I got a lot of open shots early got my rhythm going and got to the free throw line even though I didn't make my free throws tonight I got to the line by being aggressive so I was just trying to control the game and just push in transition. When we got stops we were able to flow and everyone was able to move the ball around and guys were getting wide open shots. Not saying it was easy out there but we got easy shots because we were moving so well."
David Lee
On defending the Nuggets:
"We did get them in the half court and we did a good job of guarding them but they were leaking out in transition and they were beating us down the court and playing well. We just knew we had to get back and play our game defensively."
On what the Warriors did well and blocking shots:
"Ekpe [Udoh] did an unbelievable job. He had about five in the first half and he set the tone but the biggest thing was when they drove tonight, with the exception of the first quarter they did a very good job, when they drove in the second half we had bodies there and we had guys helping the helper. We kept them off of the boards and when we do that we're going to score enough points to win but it was good that we got stops tonight."
On the motivation in the third quarter:
"Our motivation was that we needed a road win and we felt that we didn't play very good ball in the first half but we were still in the game. We thought we could have easily been up eight or ten at the half. We had an eight point lead and then they made a nice run to end the second quarter so we knew that we kind of got used to the altitude a little bit. That hurt us a little bit in the first half, just being honest, but we came out in the second half and played good team basketball, moved the ball and got stops and ran."

Keep in mind
that they had to deal with injuries during the losing streak. But in the end, a win’s a win for you guys no matter how it’s earned.
Proud to be a brony.
Yeah.
But them losing, with or without all of their players, is still enough for people to stop talking about them for a while. And good teams don’t go on such crappy losing streaks because someone got hurt.

but we blew em out of the park

True, the Nuggets were missing a few of their players, but they are a pretty deep team. They had more than enough weapons to compete with the Warriors at home. Traditionally, Denver has been an extremely tough place to play for visiting teams, so I’ll take this win and be very happy about it. Denver didn’t even keep it close. The Warriors beat the Knicks and Heat when Curry was out.

the schedule distorts everything
Den had games in three consecutive nights over the week end, then went on a road trip, coming back from Dal on Wed. night. that plus the injuries has much to do with their losing streak. GS was much better rested than the home team.

Yeah.
Not quite as difficult. But I think the point probably still stands a little. The schedule really is throwing a lot of things off.
However, that’s not an excuse to lose 7 of 8. Neither are injuries. We beat them handily because we outplayed them regardless of other factors.
http://nbawarriors.wordpress.com/
Sure, I’m not denying they were tired, but that home court advantage is huge for them. I expected more fight out of them.
I think it should be expected.
But the belief that was there before the losing streak just doesn’t seem as strong. They’ll rebound, and should get back on the right track at some point, but right now the just don’t have it.

because monta would handle the rock all the time.
even when curry cant shoot, he still defers and atleast make plays for players. its not a shot at monta, but when curry plays like this and this aggressive, monta doesn’t need to score 30 or more. its refreshing to see monta deferring and just passing the ball. They’d have to extend Westbrook the QO first. But they’d be close enough where all they’d have to do is move a couple of their smaller contracts.
Theoretically, they could extend Russell the QO, move those contracts, sign Dwight, and then give Russ an extension. So it’s possible.

The top two have to be his triple-double and the game in Portland (last one of his rookie season) where he led the comeback with 42 points and a stuffed box score elsewhere. I can’t decide which one I like more, they were both amazing.
This game was incredible, too, though. Hopefully, he can build on it and put up more incredible performances.

So it's ridiculous to say this is his best year in 4.
Gambino is a mastermind...
by GovernorStephCurry on Feb 10, 2012 12:42 AM PST up reply actions
Why?
The numbers are all over the place. Some better, some worse. I don’t know which season I’d consider his best since 2007-2008 (thought it is hard to argue with either season they won a championship), but there’s nothing I’ve seen this season that would have me rule it out.
Rumors of his decline are far exaggerated. One thing I do know for certain about his game this season is that he’s much more capable of getting into the lane when he wants, and that he’s capable of being full strength for longer minutes. Maybe it won’t last, but so far he has far more energy than he’s had either of the past 2 seasons. That doesn’t necessarily make it a better year, but it certainly leaves open the possibility, even if he isn’t shooting the ball well.
http://nbawarriors.wordpress.com/
Naw.
I’ve watched him play a bunch this year (live in LA).
He’s having in some ways his most impressive season so far, physically. It’s mind-boggling how he’s doing what he’s doing at his age, in a compressed season, with a major wrist injury,
On the other hand, he is really not as good as he used to be. He has no explosiveness. And his decision-making is as bad as ever. Play after play, take takes a load upon himself that he doesn’t have to. There’s no way he should be shooting so much more than Gasol and Bynum (he’s closer to shooting as much as the two of them combined than he is to shooting the same amount as either one of them).
I’m truly boggled by his ability to do what he’s doing, but his decision-making is costing the Lakers games. To call this his best season is crazy. He was much better carrying a similar load in 06-07 and 07-08 – and he was giving more consistent effort on the defensive end of the floor, too. His willingness to (relatively speaking) pick his spots and work better with his teammates in 08-09 is a big part of why the won the title.
His +/- is probably so good because they’re a three-man team, and while Gasol and Bynum sometimes spell each other, Kobe is replaced by a bunch of genuinely terrible players.
His defense has actually been pretty good this year also.
I don’t think he’ll ever eclipse his best INDIVIDUAL season. It was the year they won 45 games with him, Odom, and one of the shittiest playoff rosters ever, and still almost won a playoff series against the Suns.
But if I’m looking at someone’s “best season,” I always feel like, even if team accomplishments are a product of who you play with, your season just has more greatness attached to it if you win. If he managed to stay around 30 points for the season AND they won the championship (chances of this aren’t that high, at this point), it’d be hard to say it wasn’t his best season.
But as far as the last 4 seasons go, I think it’s easy to see how he might be having his best individual season. I don’t know that it’s true that he is, but I also don’t see how it’s arguable that it isn’t possible.
http://nbawarriors.wordpress.com/
It's just his mindset
He won’t let anything stop him. He uses anything and everything as motivation to get better. He’s a no excuse type guy. Over the years, he adapted to the fact that his athleticism is fast declining by developing a lethal mid-range game (a la MJ) and now he has that fadeaway jumper that’s impossible to defend, that no one else in the game can pray to make, and that he makes look easy.

He's basically a post up defender
Unless he is defending a post up player he is useless because he doesn’t block shots or score on offense.
One thing I will note – he does not grab rebounds because of OKC’s philosophy. They basically want Durant or Westbrook rebounding so they can get out on the break.

They basically want Durant or Westbrook rebounding so they can get out on the break.
The way to break is to get the rebound and have your big make a quick outlet. You can’t tell your big not to rebound so you can break – you’ll end up giving up a ton of second chance points.
It’s also hard to have too many players back for defensive rebounds.
Perkins rebounds have fallen off a cliff this year, but I’m not sure what that means – his rebounding didn’t change after the trade to OKC last year. Also worth pointing out that his offensive rebounds are down, in addition to his dfensive rebounds – so it can’t just be that they’re telling him not to rebound.
What I notice
Is Perkins boxing out a lot and letting Durant get the rebound. Durant often stays back to rebound. I was exaggerating, it’s not like Perkins doesn’t rebound. It’s just that Durant rebounds a lot and then dribbles the ball up in a sort of delayed break.
Collison and Mohammed don’t rebound a lot either. The only guy who rebounds is Ibaka. Once again, I feel as if this is a philosophy. “Box out and let Durant rebound the ball.” I think Scott Brooks thinks Durant creates a lot of problems for the defense when he rebounds and brings up the ball.
Perkins was helped in Boston because they had a PG who could pass. His offensive numbers are awful now that nobody passes him the ball when he is in a good position to score.

Actually, never mind
Durant is the only guy who consistently rebounds – just looked at basketball reference. Durant has 7.8 rebounds per game. Next guy is Ibaka and Perkins with 4.1 rebounds per game.
Once again, i feel as if this is a philosophy – they want Durant rebounding and bringing up the ball.

I think it's a philosophical thing by Scott Brooks
It is basically a perimeter oriented offense focused on three players – Durant, Westbrook and Harden. They have no post up player to speak of – and that’s fine with them. They want the ball in these three players’ hands at all times, and everyone else is only in there to play defense and make open shots.

If we drafted paul george I would like him starting at sf bringing dorell off the bench
He is 6’10 afterall, only reason he playing sg is cause of granger. Though can still trade Monta with a Curry Klay George lineup.. if only
Maybe I'm wrong bout him being 6'10
But I saw a pic somewhere with him and granger side by side and he was taller. Also it was said that he grew 2 inches this summer. Definitely big enough to play sf.
He's like 6'8" or 6'9", the ideal SF height.

i thought that he was 6'8 last year
and i had heard that he grew 2 inches during the offseason.

Me: So who (from the 2011 draft class) compares with (Anthony) Davis?
J-Ridah: Biyombo
Indiana Pacers swingman Paul George doesn’t want to settle for just a “late growth spurt” with his body. He wants to grow his game, too.
George, who grew 2 inches to 6-10 during the offseason, is putting in the time to make sure his skills progress. One tactic the 21-year-old has adopted is to routinely be one of the first players on the practice court and one of the last ones off it.

i once heard a rumor that Dwight Howard grew to 7 feet
and that anthony randolph did too. neither was true. both were news stories in legitimate newspapers. kobe was once regularly listed as 6’7" too. point is, it’s always hard for me to believe they’ve grown unless I actually see the difference. heights are so arbitrary and sometimes made up in the NBA.

I love what Curry did today. Ran his own offense OFTEN. Instead of deferring to Monta or Dorell.
He played extra smart today knowing where the players were and set them up perfectly. As we all saw, I think he played and his plus/minus was the highest when Curry/Klay/Rush/Lee/Udoh was in. That 5 man roster has that perfect equal distribution of offense and Defense. GAHHH so much to love.
I never doubted Curry to have a game like this and I will expect more. BUT what made me so glad was that Monta didn’t DEMAND the ball. Even though he was somewhat making offense, it was really Curry and Lee that made the plays for him making it seem so easy. I mean he had double digit points without really focusing in on JUST scoring.
curry & iggy TEAM USA buddies.
P.S. I came into this game hoping we lost...
but with what Curry can really do and do it efficiently and make players around him that much better, it makes me wonder what if we have a legitimate center (not even that big named) but just a competent center.

I'm all for doing just about anything for an upgrade at center
One trade I think will get done is swapping Biedrins or Kwames expiring for Okafor which also have a pretty bad contract. No reason for hornets not to trade him, and he’s basically what we need. Decent rebounding, defense and 8-10 easy pts a game.
Ibaka has really failed to step up on offense this year
He still can’t make that midrange jumper consistently.
Defensively he is great.

He showed up Westbrook big time
I don't doubt he's deserving.
But it’s still hard to make the case that anyone actually on the team didn’t.
http://nbawarriors.wordpress.com/
I would love the coach to put out a reserve lineup at some point of the game of
Parker, Nash, Love, Dirk, Gasol that would be awesome yet boring if that makes sense. Everyone on the list was deserving, what I hate is the lack of real positioning and only making it guards and forwards. I thought for sure at least 1 sg and 1 sf would be included for reserves, but the coaches had to prove me wrong by selecting 3 pg and 3 pf. I’ll be surprised if West doesn’t get destroyed by East.
I said the same exact thing on my Twitter.
The East SHOULD destroy the West.

nba.com’s “Nightly Notable” – some of Stephen Curry’s shots.
I don't think Monta Ellis can make the All-Star team in the Western Conference
Too many good players. Kobe, Paul and Westbrook have three spots locked up. There is only one or two spots left for a guard. This means Monta will have to fight guys like Parker, Nash, Ginobili, and Lowry for those spots. And unfortunately Monta shoots too low a percentage from the field to be considered an All-Star.
Eastern Conference, there is not as much competition, Monta could get in.

Not just the low shooting percentage
but the team record. Hopefully he makes it one year (he’d be amazing in that game) but either he needs to put up other-worldly numbers on a consistent basis or he needs to play on a team in legit playoff contention.

Question about the Warrior's boxscore and roster...
How do they manage to dress and play 13 players in a game? This is not the first time I’ve noticed it this season.
In this shortened season, the teams are allowed to have 13 players active.
I don’t know if it lasts the entire season, but that’s the current rule.

Yes, his shooting has been improving, but what is really impressive is the aggressiveness he’s been showing in the last few games. Penetration, physical defense — for a rookie, he’s showing very quick growth. He’s starting to look like a true building block.

if he’s gonna be a building block he’s gotta show some emotion and enjoyment of the game.Right now he looks like he’d rather be working somewhere else.
Young cousins took 2 charges last night and each time got up smiling and pointed down field like a football ref after a fumble. That’s the emotion that powers winners, the kings went on to beat the thunder.

That’s the emotion that powers winners,
Ugh. Will you please get off his jock? His team isn’t a “winner.” By point differential they’re the worst team in the entire conference. DMC is definitely showing signs of improvement — rebounding in particular has been spectacular this year — but he’s still pretty far away from being a winning basketball player. Terrible efficiency, too many fouls, too many turnovers. If he gets to the level of a winning player, it will be by diligently working on his game and addressing those problems, not by “showing emotion.”
I never saw Tim Duncan getting up smiling and pointing downfield like a football ref, yet DMC will be lucky if he’s ever half as good as Duncan.
There will be no extra point!

Of course their are ulterior motives to securing that #1 pick, in my mind too..
but he’ll get better, and can become a legitimate all-star. Especially if he’s our only player, and has all the coaches attention
I never saw Tim Duncan getting up smiling and pointing downfield like a football ref, yet DMC will be lucky if he’s ever half as good as Duncan.
haha, this is a game for entertainment and watching a young guy enjoy himself is entertaining.
Just looked up the stats: Duncan’s second year he averaged 21.7 P, 11.4 R, 49.5% FG, 69% Ft in 38min. and Cuz is averaging 15.4 P, 11.4 R, 44.6% Fg, 72.7% Ft in 29 min. So he’s already better than half as good as Duncan was at the same point in his career.

I think it’s insulting to Klay being compared character-wise to Cousins . Klay didn’t become such a good shooter by not being motivated. And frankly, judging a player’s heart by who thumps their own chest the loudest strikes me as rather shallow.

Agree with you.
I always have to laugh when they smack their chest like some Tarzan type figure, as if they are the only player in the whole world capable of playing basketball. I think it looks foolish and boastful (expect in some isolated cases). Quietly and silently striking at your opponent is much smarter then being loud and this behavior that I can only label as attention seeking.
judging a player’s heart by who thumps their own chest the loudest strikes me as rather shallow.
I don’t think you’ve ever watched cousins play, if you did you’d see he’s not thumping his chest. When he gets up from a charge and points downfield he’s just showing that he enjoys the game, and when things go bad he shows that he don’t like it.He actually a very witty kid for his age and Smart seems to realize that..

I disagree about him needing to show more emotion
I have seen him show emotion plenty of times. When he made the 3 pointer at the end of the Sac game, for instance, he was happy. Every time he sees Steph or Monta or someone else make a big shot he stands up from the bench and pumps his fist (while I see other players sit still). He makes the 3 with his fingers all the time when someone makes a 3 pointer. I see him active in high-five-ing his team mates when the come off of the floor. He seems active in the huddles and pays a lot of attention.
I think that it is really important to acknowledge that OK he might not be a Nate Robinson type of emotional output guy, but he shows happiness and excitement. .He might also just be more of a serious type of guy. Nothing wrong with that.
I really, really don’t get the impression that he looks like he would rather work somewhere else. He seems like the type to me to be a bit introverted, is very self-critical and analyzes himself constantly, wants to perform well, and is also getting to know his team mates. not everyone can just jump easily into a group.
I also think that sometimes when players are very emotional it can come off as too playful and not focused.
I like that he keeps his head down, so to speak. He’s a rookie. A rookie who had an awful start to the year and is now rounding into form. Good job kid. Keep your mouth shut and keep up the hot shooting.
