Firstly, I'm going to miss Monta and Udoh, not just for what they did for us on the court, but they were genuinely positive guys in a downward spiraling franchise. My heart sank reading the trade news on Twitter and ESPN.
With that said, we've been asking for this for a long time. We wanted a legitimate big man. We wanted to shed Ellis' contract because top guards are a dime a dozen and we overpaid. Some wanted us to tank for the draft next year. And most of all, we wanted to stop being mediocre.
This trade does all of those things, in the long term. We may not see it now, but the 19 year old bandaid has finally been ripped off, and even though it stings, it needed to happen one way or the other. We are exposed, and we're vulnerable. But, in time, this wound will heal up and we'll finally be able to start rebuilding this damn franchise.
