First off, let me start by saying that I am a huge Monta fan, and now that he's gone, it makes me appreciate him even more going hard every single night on such terribly mediocre Warrior squads for the past several season. He will truly be missed, and will always, ALWAYS be a Warrior at heart. He will get the JRich treatment and will be cheered every time he comes back to the ROARacle, and I hope you're all with me in giving him support.
Having said that, this is a good trade. When you get a chance, you always, ALWAYS trade a talented guard for a talented big man. Talented big men are few and far between (need proof? Just look at all the bigs that have come and gone for this team in the past two decades or so. Sadly, those 1.5 season of Beans averaging 10/10 was probably the best center we've had in the past two decades), while talented guards are a dime a dozen. And we just traded for a former #1 overall and a Top 5 Center when healthy.
Also, in this league, you need to hit rock bottom before you can begin trending up. Look at OKC, Minnesota, hell even Cleveland, twice in the same decade. I'd rather endure this season of terrible, bottom of the standings basketball, and then start getting better, than 5-10 more years of mediocre, high lottery pick basketball. I'm sick of mediocirty and this trade actually shows our front office actually has a long term plan to win rather than trying to win NOW, what we've had to deal with for the entirety of the Cohan/Rowell regime. And besides, this means we're terrible enough to get our draft pick back!
