No one disagrees that if a trade is going to happen and we lose one or more of our valuable assets it should be for a quality starting center. Lets please stop fantasy of Howard coming to the bay, even if we acquire him via trade, dude would still walk once the season ended. Lets also be serious and realize that until the culture of Warriors goes from perennial loser to contenders, no free agent will choose the bay over the other premier destinations. I do believe the only way the W's will be able to get a legit star is via trade. So with that in mind, let me propose one trade that I feel could transform the W's into contenders.
GSW receives JLin and TChandler
NYK receives SCurry and DLee
Why would each team do it?
Well, the Knicks will eventually realize that Jeremy Lin, although crazy popular, will not be able to lead the likes of Carmelo and Amare into contention. Don't get me wrong, I love Lin's game mostly for his tenacity and fearless style, but he is limited skill wise and will probably need years to develop elite PG composure. The Knicks are built to win now and with Carmelo and Amare's game requiring the ball for most of the shot clock what they really need is a dead eye shooter with PG skills. Enter Curry. With Curry on board the Knicks allow their star players to play their game. Yes they give up Chandler but adding David Lee gives them a very good 4 that works from the outside-in allowing more space for Carmelo and Amare to operate. They really become a potent offensive team which should work well with D'antoni's style. The only real problem to me is does their FO have the guts to give up such a marketable commidity as Jeremy Lin in order to improve their team?
Like I said before, the Warriors will not attract any marquee free agents. This gives them a chance to be very competitive with Chandler holding the post and Udoh at the 4 opposing team wings will think twice before attacking the rim. Jeremy will not mind deferring to Monta and he gives the W's another slashing guard who can play a little defense. Once KThompson develops he should be able to start at the 3 and with the starting line up of Lin/Ellis/Thompson/Udoh/Chandler the W's have a good balance of defense, attacking and shooting.
Thoughts? Is this something you would want for the Warriors? Do you think the Knicks would consider it?
