The rumors re Nash to the Raps are gaining pace, & an amnesty of Calderon seems likely (apparently).. Landing Jose off his amnesty waiver in mid-July would be massive for us. Why?
Jenkins is developing & he had a stack of opportunity with Steph out last season. He seems capable but he is only in his 2nd season, so we must not rely on him too much. Steph is fantastic but his shaky ankles will always be a worry for us fan-boys. I think he'll be OK long term but we probably need to limit his minutes to 30 per night over an 82 game grind.
So why Calderon specifically?
1) He is a pass first guy & with all our shooters lurking on the wings (Klay, H Barnes, Rush, D Wright, RJ, Curry) we need a set-up type backup point-man. We also need someone to accurately get the ball down low to Bogey & D Lee when Curry is off the floor, & Jose could be that guy.
2) Whilst its sometimes said that stats can lie, but in Calderon it's hard to argue that they aren't super impressive in terms of passing skills. A) 4th in the league in assists & 3th in assists per 48 mins played. B) 1st in the league in assists to turnover ratio.
3) Calderon turns 31 before the season tips off & he has plenty to offer still, so he could be this years Billups-type steal off amnesty.
The only problem for us Warriors is he may attract a tonne of interest off the amnesty claimed bids, & therefore his price might be higher than we'd like. But even if we got him for what we'd likely have to pay for say Andre Miller, I'd be more than up for that.
