I know there has been a lot of concern and confusion over the Harrison Barnes situation. The Warriors have been quiet on the issue, leading to a lot of wild speculation. Some people are saying that it is a confidence issue, that the injury is worse than we might imagine, etc. When I was watching the Warriors open practice something stood out to me that I couldn't place my finger on. I couldn't get past it so after an absurdly long amount of time looking, I hit pay dirt! If you go to the Warriors live practice on youtube about 42 minutes, 21 seconds in, you will see Harrison sitting on the sidelines watching the team play. He is holding a basketball, looking dejected like he was told he is the only kid who doesn't get to go to Disneyland. He is also talking to (if my eyes don't deceive me) Warriors owner Joe Lacob.
Ok. Speculation time. I'm gonna jump to some conclusions based on a few seconds of footage. I don't think this is a confidence issue. I think Barnes IS hurt. I think he wants to play, and I think he is mad that everyone (including the owner) is telling him he can't. I think his foot is hurt from over training and Lacob is telling him how important he is to the future of the organization and how they aren't going to do anything foolish to risk him not healing properly. I think his silence on the issue is frustration and anger at not being able to train and play right now.
All of this is baseless, of course, but I want Harrison to be playing as much as anyone. Take a look at the video and let me know what you think.
