RicBucher: Spurs reminded everyone tonight of their vampire qualities: they do not die of their own right, you have to put the
silver bullet in them. Not every team has the temperament to find a steady hand, take aim and finish the job. Yet that ability is wholly necessary, several times over, to win a title. Do the Warriors have elements of that? We're going to find out. At the risk of coming too soon with this, what with the series still up for grabs, there's plenty for the Warriors to gain simply by having the chance to compete against such a battle-tested nucleus and system. The Warriors get to find out exactly how much championship-caliber mettle they have before getting locked into this roster. Beating a team like the Nuggets can happen because of an untimely injury or a quirky matchup; beating the Spurs is never an accident. Should the Warriors be found wanting, owner Joe Lacob and GM Bob Myers can set about adding the necessary players and pieces and poise. It's still a loss -- but it's one that, if used wisely, thanks to the opponent, can pay long-term dividends.
(after the game)
RicBucher: Tony Parker's post-game limp after Game 3 apparently looked worse than Steph Curry's. Then again, Steph has had more practice.
(after the game)
RicBucher: A Warriors assistant coach, after hearing I balked at claims the team grew up by winning Game 2 vs. SA, told me I
was wrong. I suggested the team actually first showed its mettle in how it responded to an overtime loss to the Nuggets on Nov. 10, winning seven of their next nine. The assistant coach suggested their moment of truth happened even earlier than that: Nov. 3, when, after losing Brandon Rush for the season the night before, the Warriors flew to LA without Andrew Bogut and beat the Clippers. And he's right. They've been responding to emotional setbacks with aplomb ever since.
- Stephen Curry sprained his LEFT ankle planting for a shot. He waved off Mark Jackson and stayed in the game. But the next game will be on Sunday early afternoon. We have no idea how much it will swell up and if he can play or not.
- Don't go out on Saturday night, because we got a Sunday early afternoon game. We'll be seeing how bad that left ankle sprain is on Curry up until then. Must win, must win, must win.
