After Jack's season he may be too expensive to retain. Given the play of Barnes and Green in the playoffs, replacing the possible loss of Landry is probably less pressing than spelling Curry's ankles over the course of 82(+?) games. While Nate Parham has discussed who we might draft as a backup PG, there is no guarantee we will have a pick to do so, partly my reason to bring up other avenues.
Trades might be a rob Peter to pay Paul scenario, weakening the Warriors elsewhere to fill this need assuming we don't keep Jack. If we can convince someone to take on Biedrins and Jefferson's expiring contracts it is more likely to come nearer the trade deadline. So assuming, not predicting both Jack and Landry are gone, we will need help from the bell.
Are there any free agent PG's out there we can afford (we paid Jack and Landry an approximate combined $9.5 mil last year). Could any fit in or even enhance the Warriors' chances next season? Despite Barnes and Green late season success the Warriors may still want to leave a little for a Landry replacement if only to eat some minutes. The regular season is a marathon as we all found out about mid-Spurs series.
I am leaning toward the free agent route for a backup PG because Curry's ankles are always a source of concern for me. The thought of a rookie caretaker in his absence is unsettling. Given those parameters I wondered what others are think.
I made a list of potentials. None will resemble Jack. All have strengths and weaknesses, just as Jack did. My list has experience, some more (maybe too much), some less. All are possibly affordable, thus I felt candidates for discussion. Of course none is a lock. Each could resign with their previous team, just as Jack could.
So here is the list: Darren Collison, Will Bynum, Toney Douglas, DJ Augustin, Earl Watson, CJ Watson. A late addition, not from my list but mentioned by another in Nate's draft piece is Jonny Flynn who played in Australia last season.
Tell me what you think, why or why not. Add others and give us reasons. The more the merrier. I did not think this list was exhaustive or an improvement. Just good to start a debate. To reiterate, I wanted affordable, experienced and available by training camp. Feel free to disagree. No offense will be taken.
