I have always considered the Lakers to be a loyal, and honorable organizations in the NBA, at least under Dr. Jerry Buss.
For better or worse, the cap rules coupled with Kobe's contract, puts the Lakers in a peculiar situation.
I propose a trade that will significantly strengthen two rivals, but provide the Warriors with a chance at something immaculate.
The Lakers get:
David Lee is a perennial all-star, and double-double machine when coupled with a traditional point guard system. Under Mike" D'Antoni's, he'd return 20/10 production every night.
Harrison Barnes is an asset that the Warriors cannot afford once Klay is signed, his development has stagnated with the coming of Iggy. He gives the Lakers youth, and stability. Giving up Barnes is a lot, but the Thunder have shown what stockpiling young assets without a way to afford them concludes (Green, Bledsoe, Harden).
The Grizzlies get:
The Gasol brothers should be reunited for many reasons, but mostly because the Lakers owe it to Pau, and because his contract is also impossible to keep. The teamup of the brothers, would produce great TV ratings, and were the Grizzlies willing to somehow reverse this so that the Lakers could get Marc, I think everyone would agree, that this would be a show worth tuning into.
Kent Bazemore is an interesting sophomore, with the potential to light up the scoreboards, given the appropriate development. In many ways, he reminds me of Kobe, albeit without the ceiling. Yes, he commits multiple turnovers a game, but he lacks the minutes. He'd also give the Grizzlies a much needed personality boost off the bench (although James Johnson has been doing a fine job at that). The Grizzlies lack of depth at the point was prevelant this season more than ever, and while they like Lee, and a serviceable Calathes, they could certainly use a young guard to learn under Conley.
But let's be real, you can always find another Bazemore in the draft.
The Warriors get:
Zach Randolph is a beast, and can do everything David Lee does in the post; but better.
While you may question his range, and health, I can assure you that a front-court of Bogut and Zach would spark fear in the eyes of any player, much like Tyler Hansbrough when staring into the gaze of Metta World Peace (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xftrwZRQspY)
Zach is tired of hearing that he's trade bait, (http://www.grizzlybearblues.com/2013/12/14/5210946/zach-randolph-responds-to-trade-rumors-there-aint-no-loyalty-in-this) Let's give him a reason to ball again.
Koufos gives you an affordable solid backup, and assurance for Bogut's health situation, and valuable defense/points/rebounds/blocks off the bench.
The Warriors would have the scariest starting 5 in the league for the foreseeable future with this trade, but they also enter win-now mode (2-3 years max given Bogut/Zach's health).
Yes, the Warriors would have to give up their youth (although the Curry and Klay core can play together for another 10 years), but when the league gives you a chance at a ring: you have to take it.
What say you?
