*This one's for Tim Kawakami*
I am an avid supporter of David Lee and die-hard Warriors loyalist. In 2010, David elected to sign with a franchise that had not seen sustained success since the mid 1970's. He saw the opportunity to make a significant impact on a historic team that resides in the most beautiful region of our country. Lee has developed into a quality player and leader on a playoff basketball team.
The notion of losing Lee and Thompson to receive the services of Kevin Love and Kevin Martin does not thrill me. D-Lee can hold his own against any power forward in the league and the chemistry that this team has developed over the past 3 years is not something that should be further corrupted. The Mark Jackson firing was questionable but likely necessary from an organizational standpoint, however getting rid of David Lee and Klay is where I begin to question the direction of the franchise.
This team has become a 50 win team because of these two and Curry. In my estimation the Warriors WILL NOT get to a championship level without these three guys because they are key to the team's superior chemistry. Jerry West, Kerr, and Travis Schlenk seem to understand Klay and Curry's value, but no one defends the qualities and devotion D-Lee possesses. It was past time for this Georgia Bulldog to defend his favorite Florida Gator.
I realize I am taking a controversial stance by adamantly defending David Lee, however I feel that Klay has certainly received his love from many of the fans throughout the region - I am puzzled that I have not heard any support for D-Lee. How quick we are to forget his loyalty to the team and the quality of his play as a Warrior. Last time I checked, he was the first Warrior to be named an All-Star since 1997 (Steph should have been on the all-star squad as well) and has been a consistent 18 and 10 for the past 5 years. Here is to hoping David Lee is a Warrior for life and is on the court for the opening of the new arena in San Francisco.
