Now that the Cavs have upped the stakes for Wolves, it will be interesting to see how Myers, Lacob and the management team react.
The debate has raged on in these discussion boards and on Twitter over whether or not we should include Klay in a deal for KLove. Well after this recent news it looks like we will have to include him if we want to beat the Cavs offer. Based on what I'm hearing, it also sounds like the T'Wolves value Klay more than they value Wiggins so if we are willing to include him, sounds like we can have Love. Here is an alternate take on the situation.
Why not deal with the Twolves and the Cavs and do something like this:
Twolves get: Klay Thompson, David Lee
Cavs get: Kevin Love
The fact is Wiggins--the 19 year old kid who has been talked about as the best wing prospect since Durant or maybe even LeBron, and that is even with an underwhelming 1st year of college--is not only available for the right price, but we have a way to acquire him without giving away too much of our core. I love Klay and I think Kevin Love is a top 10 or 15 player, but Wiggins has the potential to be a superstar on both ends of the floor.
We could hypothetically get rid of David Lee's awful contract and awful defense and swap 1 year of Klay Thompson on his rookie contract and four to five years of him on a max deal for one of the best prospects we've seen in the last decade on a rookie deal for the next four years. Not to mention we would have a ton of cap space available during the year that Kevin Durant becomes a free agent...
We would also still have some pieces we could use to go after the stretch four Steve Kerr covets. Maybe a swap of Barnes, Speights and picks for Ryan Anderson.
Let me know what you guys think.
