Jason Thompson: The forgotten Warrior?

Sam Sharpe-USA TODAY Sports

Perhaps no one is more disappointed in this season than Jason Thompson. For various reasons, he simply has not turned out to be what we expected, or what he expected for himself this season. Nevertheless, he is a member of the best team in the NBA, even if he has to subordinate his ego for the greater good. He is a good man, and he deserves to be on this great team. But the February 18 trade deadline is rapidly approaching. Will the Warriors trade him?

A brief biography of Jason Thompson

Thompson was selected with the 12th overall pick by the Sacramento Kings in the 2008 NBA draft. On July 8, 2008, he signed his rookie scale contract with the Kings. As a rookie in 2008–09, he played all 82 games for the Kings while averaging 11.1 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. On October 25, 2009, the Kings exercised their third-year team option on Thompson's rookie scale contract, extending the contract through the 2010–11 season. He went on to have a career-best season as he averaged 12.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. On October 25, 2010, the Kings exercised their fourth-year team option on Thompson's rookie scale contract, extending the contract through the 2011–12 season. On June 25, 2012, the Kings tendered a qualifying offer to make Thompson a restricted free agent. On July 12, 2012, he re-signed with the Kings to a multi-year deal. On July 10, 2015, Thompson was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers along with Carl Landry, Nik Stauskas, a future first round pick, and the rights to swap first round picks in 2016 and 2017, in exchange for the rights to Artūras Gudaitis and Luka Mitrović. On July 31, the 76ers traded Thompson to the Golden State Warriors in exchange for Gerald Wallace, cash and draft considerations. Source: Wikipedia. And that is where we are today.

Jason Thompson with the Warriors

.

Perhaps Thompson has found himself at the right place but at the wrong time with the Warriors. The 250 pound, 6’11" power forward and center may be between a rock and a hard place, as they say. With the current GSW roster, it is exceedingly difficult for Thompson to make his mark on this team, let alone get sufficient playing time. He seems rusty, and his numbers seem to confirm that. While his eFG% is a respectable .429, he simply doesn’t seem to impact our games. In his limited playing time with GSW, he is averaging a career low 2.1 points per game, and his FT% is an abysmal .625.

What should GSW do with Jason Thompson?

That is the question that I’m asking you.
