Will Game 7 be the defining moment for Harrison Barnes?

Tomorrow’s game will certainly generate a ton of articles, whether we win or lose. And one article that may be written is what role Harrison Barnes has played in the NBA Finals. I would like to write that article right here and now. And I will deviate from my normal custom; this will be very brief!

But let me first draw your attention to the current commercial on TV; the current commercial featuring Dwayne Wade and George Gervin, the "Ice Man." The newbies here may not know anything about the Ice Man. He was a legendary player for many years in the NBA. His smooth cold-blooded layups to the rim earned him the name, "The Ice Man." And in the commercial, he’s sitting on an ice throne, which is quite appropriate. He goes on to say, "My man, Dwayne Wade, you can do this." And right on cue, Wade immediately proceeds to play along with the narrative; he sinks iced basketballs through an iced hoop. And they relish this commercial with trite sayings like, "A jetty in cold spaghetti." Harrison Barnes has also been quite cold-blooded in the NBA Finals, but in a very bad way. I’m not a stats guy, but I’m told that he’s shooting 2 for 22 in the Finals. Now, that is very cold-blooded; it is horrible!

After tomorrow’s game, Barnes’ future with GSW will be decided. If he continues to flail, we already know what that future will be; he will no longer be a member of GSW. But what if he soars and becomes The Black Falcon that we’ve all been craving to see? Will a much-needed great performance ensure that he’ll be with us for years to come? It is up to him to define that future. The Cavs have already seemed to define that future for him, and for us. They do not believe that he is a threat on the offensive end. And so far, they are right. They don’t even bother to guard him anymore. He is left with wide open shots, but he continues to miss them at an alarming rate.

It is now "Showtime" for HB. Will he show up?
