NBAPA Leadership Includes Superstars Wanting to Raise Max Salaries

Several recent discussions in comments on GSoM have mentioned the possibility the next 11 months negotiation will increase limits on max salaries. (If all does not go well, they negotiations could easily go on longer.) The main question in the discussions has been will the limits on individual salaries to be raised or (partially) eliminated? If Silver’s comments on competiveness reflect owner sentiments, then the NBA is probably willing to raise max percentage limits on individual salaries. Thus, the main question becomes: where the union will stand?

To me, it is apparent that since the last negotiations superstars have systematically infiltrated the leadership of the NBAPA. While some changes will occur before votes on a new contract will occur, here is the present leadership with my annotation reflecting who I believe will obviously support raising the individual max salary limits. Generally, the Executive Committee shown in the first table is more active in negotiation. Expect Chris Paul to always be in room and LeBron or his sidekick Jones to also be there. The player representatives must vote on any contract.

Raising Max Salaries could easily doom the existence of future super teams, thus GSoMers’s interest.
