Will Bogut and Barnes come back to haunt the Warriors?

Whenever I see certain players get traded or not re-signed, they always seem to come back to haunt us. Certainly, that is true for former A’s players – they always come back to haunt us, whether it’s Yoenis Cespedes, Josh Donaldson, Houston Street, or Carlos Gonzalez. And I often see the same thing with former Warriors players. Now that Bogut and Barnes are with the Dallas Mavericks, will they come back to haunt the Golden State Warriors?

Bogut + Barnes = 40% of GSW's starters from the record-setting 73-win season

It is hard to tell whether the Dallas Mavericks will even be relevant this season; therefore, perhaps it’s a moot point as to whether Bogut and Barnes will come back to haunt us. But still, it makes me wonder. Perhaps I’m just being paranoid. Or perhaps it’s the off-season and there isn’t much to write about. Nevertheless, can we blithely dismiss any threat that Dallas may pose? Maybe the basketball gods will seek revenge for what we did to the Mavericks in the first round of the NBA playoffs in 2008. That is when we shocked the world – that is when the 8th seed knocked off the 1st seed in the playoffs. That is when some newbies here became Warriors fans. For me, that may have been the start of a Warriors renaissance – it may have been the first sign that GSW was headed in the right direction – it may have been the precursor to our current greatness.

But I would submit to you that the Dallas Mavericks should not be overlooked. Dirk Nowitzki is probably already collecting Social Security checks and may be on Medicare, but he’s still a force to be reckoned with. And they also have Curry! If it is true that the apple does not fall from the tree, then we should not overlook Seth Curry. He is on a mission – on a mission to escape from his brother’s long shadow. Beware of a player who is on a mission. He could have stayed with the Sacramento Kings, but he has something to prove – he wants to prove that he’s not just Steph’s younger brother. And Deron Williams is also no slouch; he’s played some great games against the Warriors throughout his career. Quincy Acy has also played well against GSW, and so has Charlie Villanueva. And of course, there is the pest: J.J. Berea. For whatever reason, he always plays his best games against the Warriors. And when you add Bogut and Barnes to that lineup, I wonder whether they can come back to haunt us?

The tandem of Bogut and Barnes could prove to be particularly difficult for GSW -- they have played together for a few years, and that could be worth something. They know each other's strenghts and weaknesses. They both wear a ring...they both know what it takes to be a Champion.

We pretty much know what Bogut brings to the table: Great rim protection and great passing from the high post. Also, he is gifted at setting picks and screens. Barnes, on the other hand, will always remain an enigma to us Warriors fans – he can score 20 points in a game, or he can shoot blanks, like he did during the NBA Finals. But what if Bogut and Barnes have something to prove when they face the Warriors? What if they play over their heads to show that they are still Warriors? What if they come back to haunt us?
