Santa Cruz Warriors finalize their roster: Guard John Allen, forward Paul Crosby waived

Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The Santa Cruz Warriors has announced its 2013-14 roster and Oakland native Kiwi Gardner has made the (decreasingly?) unlikely journey from open tryouts to D-League roster.

With the Santa Cruz Warriors' season beginning tomorrow night at Kaiser Permanente Arena, the team has finalized its roster for the 2013-14 season by waiving guard John Allen and forward Paul Crosby.

The full roster is as follows:

2013-14 Santa Cruz Warriors roster (via a Santa Cruz Warriors release).

Allen was a draft prospect who was featured at SB Nation's Ridiculous Upside prior to the 2013 D-League Draft, but had an uphill battle on a team with a backcourt that already features two players who were in Golden State training camp - Seth Curry and Cameron Jones - and another D-League veteran in Maurice Baker. With only 10 active spots on a D-League roster, someone had to go.

Yet not to dismiss the dreams of those who didn't make the team, the fact that Oakland native Kiwi Gardner has made the team after impressing the staff during open tryouts is a cool development. Based on Santa Cruz's preseason games, he doesn't seem to figure in as a major contributor to the team: he played just 10 minutes in one game, recording 3 points and 2 assists. But if he gets a chance to show off anything close to what he can do on YouTube, he'll be fun to follow this season.
