CWebb Contest: 2 Free Tickets to Watch the Golden State Warriors vs Washington Warriors

UPDATE: WE HAVE A WINNER!!

We had over 115 entries, but one GSoMer stood out from the rest... sleepys29againstshowtime!

sleepys29againstshowtime, email us at goldenstwarriors@gmail.com from the address on your GSoM account and we'll hook you up with the lower bowl tickets to go see the Golden State Warriors vs Washington Warriors this coming Monday. For those of you who didn't win, we have plenty of contests in store, so there's still chances to win some free tickets!

Thanks for playing!

===================================

There's something about the next few days in Dubs land that makes you Reminisce like Pete Rock and C.L. Smooth. Thursday night in Oakland Chris Webber will be starting for your Golden State Warriors as coached by Don Nelson and nationally broadcast on TNT. It's like it's 1994 again. That was not only a great year for Hip Hop, it was a great year (well the first half) for the Warriors.

Let's play Predict the Cdubbz Debut!

Next Monday night is the icing on this throwback Betty Crocker cake with the Washington Warriors including former Warrior greats Antawn "Scoop Shot" Jamison and Gilbert "#0" Arenas (in spirit) coming to town. Another twist is that way back in 1994 the Warriors traded Chris Webber for Tom Gugliotta and draft picks to... yup, you guessed it. The then named Washington Bullets. Funny how things just fall into place sometimes.

Find out how you can win a pair of lower bowl seats to see Monday night's Warriors-Wizards game plus Nellie and CWebb swapping high five's at the Roaracle Arena after the jump!

GSOM "You be the DJ" Ticket Giveaway Winner Announcement!

First and foremost, this was one of the hardest choices we at GSoM have ever had to make (second to who's house we should watch the game at).  Thank you for the creative, hilarious, and carefully thought out responses to our GSoM 'You Be the DJ' Ticket Giveaway Contest! ; we definitely learned a lot reading the responses and have expanded our musical archive thanks to your work!  It definitely wasn't easy, but we were able to agree on a winner, who will receive a pair of tickets to the Warrior-Spurs game (section 109 next to the "make your free throw, please" guy).  There were many other great responses, so we wanted to send a thanks for the effort.  The runner-ups will receive a GSoM pin!

GSoM XMas Ticket Contest: YOU MAKE THE CAVS CALL

UPDATE: WE HAVE A WINNER!!

There was some excellent guessing out there for this contest but in the end the closest contestant that adhered to all of the rules set down was NinerWarrior.

NinerWarrior, email us at goldenstwarriors@gmail.com from the address on your GSoM account and we'll hook you up with the lower bowl tickets to go see the Warriors take on the Timberwolves this coming Wednesday. For those of you who didn't win, we have plenty of contests still in store, so you'll still have chances to win some free tickets!

Thanks for playing and Merry Christmas again from the GSoM Crew!

UPDATE: NinerWarrior, you have until noon PST on Tuesday, Dec 25th to contact us to claim your tickets.

=======================================

Ho Ho Ho-ly Crap they're giving away more tickets?!

happy_santa

Believe it! As a little Christmas gift to our loyal GSoM community, we're offering up our two lower bowl seats (Section 109) for the Minnesota game on Wednesday, December 26th at 7:30pm.

So fear not. While you may be aware that that squishy package under your tree is merely a few new pairs of underwear, there still lies hope for the ultimate Christmas gift. Because if your psychic senses are on point, you and a friend just might be in store for a great time out.

For this edition, we'll be making predictions centered on the upcoming Cleveland Lebrons - sorry, Cavs game. Similar to our last contest, we will ask a series of questions that should yield numerical answers. We'll add up the numbers to those questions, and whoever gets closest to the actual numbers wins the ticket.

Make the jump like Santa for the contest and all the rules!

GSOM Ticket Contest: Guess the Correct Number

UPDATE: WE HAVE A WINNER!!

And the winner is (drum roll please)... tinfoyle with his answer of 101 at 4:33pm today. Congratulations! tinfoyle, email us at goldenstwarriors@gmail.com from the address on your GSoM account and we'll hook you up with the lower bowl tickets to go see the Warriors take on the Spurs this coming Tuesday. For those of you who didn't win, we have plenty of contests still in store, so you still have many chances to win some free tickets!

Make the jump for the answers!

**************************************

If you win this contest, you'll be seeing Duncan like this

The Spurs are coming to town this Tuesday and we have 2 lower bowl tickets we're trying to give away for the game. This contest is going to be different than the previous ones. It's not timed, but rather based on your Nostradamus-like abilities. In every GSOM Open Thread, we like to give predictions of what will happen during the game. We always get the predictions correct. So for this contest we're testing how well you can predict future events in the Warriors-Lakers game.

Here's how it works. Below you'll find a series of questions that have numerical answers. We're going to add up the numbers to those questions and whoever gets closest to the actual number wins the tickets. Tiebreaker goes to the person who posts first according to the time stamp. Your answer must be in before 6:30p Sunday, December 9th to be eligible. Ready? Set? Go.

In the Warriors-Lakers game:
  1. How many points will the Warriors win by? Take the Warriors' final score and subtract the Lakers' final score. If you think the Warriors will lose, you'll end up with a negative number.
  2. Baron Davis is from LA, so he just might have a good game in his hometown. Take the number of points you think he'll score and add the number of assists he hands out to get your answer.
  3. Kobe Kobe Kobe. The Lakers are all about Kobe. He's never been shy about shooting the rock. How many shots (excluding free throws) is he going to take?
  4. Both teams have a young center playing well. The Lakers have Andrew Bynum and the Warriors have Andris Biedrins. I expect our guy to win this matchup statistically. Take the total of Biedrins' points + rebounds and subtract the total of Bynum's points + rebounds for your answer. This answer can be negative if you think Bynum's numbers will be greater than Biedrins.
  5. The Warriors have shot well the last couple of games from the free throw line. What percentage will the Warriors shoot from the line?
  6. The Warriors thrive on making the opponent turn the ball over. Predict the number of Laker turnovers minus the number of Warrior turnovers. This answer can be negative if you think the Warriors will turn the ball over more times than the Lakers.
  7. Just for fun, how many minutes do you think Patrick O'Bryant will play? This answer cannot be negative!

Here's an example of what your answer should look like:

1) Warriors win by: 45
2) Baron's points + assists: 43
3) Kobe's shots: 42
4) Biedrins vs Bynum: 7
5) Warriors' free throw%: 76
6) Laker turnovers - Warrior turnovers: 8
7) POB's minutes: 0

Total = 221

In order to win, you must show your answers to each question and then add up the total.

Remember, the answer that gets closest to the actual total for the above questions for the Warriors-Lakers game wins 2 lower bowl tickets to Tuesday's Warriors-Spurs game.

Update: After seeing the answers so far, I've realized that the tiebreakers need to change. So, I'm amending the rules to change the tiebreakers. This change should not affect your answers. Here is the new tiebreaker format. If multiple entries have the same total number, the tiebreakers are in this order:
- For question 1 in guessing the win differential, whoever is closest to the actual win differential is the winner.
- If there is still a tie, continue on to question 2 to see who is closest. Continue on to each subsequent question until the tie is broken.
- If all the answers are identical, then the timestamp is used to determine the winner. The earlier timestamp is the winner.

Again, my sincerest apologies for any confusion this may have caused, but since this is the first contest like this just trying to iron out the kinks. This should be the fairest way to determine the winner. GOOD LUCK!

GSoM Adonal Foyle POP QUIZ: 2 FREE Tix to Monday's Magical "WE WANT FOYLE!" Game

UPDATE: WE HAVE A WINNER!!

Well, you're ALL winners in my book for playing, but WarriorForLife was the first person to correctly answer every question as well as cite his sources with links. WarriorForLife- email us at goldenstwarriors@gmail.com from the address on your GSoM account and we'll hook you up with the WE WANT FOYLE edition tickets. We've got plenty of ticket giveaways left this season and we're working with some friends in high places to help us out so we can do more of these, so stay tuned!

Make the jump for a fun recap of the answers!

**************************************

Unless the Warriors and Magic meet up in the NBA Finals (haha, probably not) this will be the only time Warrior legend and former face of the franchise Adonal Foyle comes to the town. I expect to hear "WE WANT FOYLE!" in between every "Let's Go War-ri-ors!" chant.

STO_largeball.jpg
Straight BALLLLLLLLLIN!

Those of us not lucky of enough to be in attendance to give the good man a warm welcome home, but sitting on the couch watching the game on FSN Bay Area with our eyes glued to the television set BETTER hear "WE WANT FOYLE!" in full surround sound. Do not disappoint us TV viewers.

Since your boys FJ, Fuzzy, Hash, Tony, Yaobutta, Adam, R Dizzle, and myself can't make it to Monday night's game to lead up the "WE WANT FOYLE!" chants we wanted to pass our tickets in the lowerbowl (valued at $150 for the pair- good lord that's a lotta money!) on to you.

"You" meaning the first person to answer all of the questions in today's pop quiz all about the good man. Democracy definitely matters, but so does being the first person to post the correct answers to these questions in the comments!

You know how we do it here at the mighty GSoM. Here we go with our Adonal Foyle themed GSoM Pop Quiz- and unlike the last pop quiz, no calculators required!

foyle-hair.jpg
We taking you back... way back!

*** Please keep your eyes on your own computer screen while completing this pop quiz! ***

1) Adonal Foyle grew up on Canouan, one of the Grenadines Islands. Name 5 of the many islands of the Grenadines. What is the largest and second largest island?

2) The Warriors selected Adonal out of Colgate University in the 1997 NBA Draft with the 8th overall pick. Did they draft anyone else in this class? If so, who is that player and what spot did they select him at? Also, what is this player most remembered for during his Warrior days here on GSoM?

foyle-draft.jpg
From that day forward I only used Colgate toothpaste in honor of Adonal.

3) What are the most shots Adonal swatted away in a single game during his 10 year career with the Warriors? (Hint: He hit this number more than once). Also, list the dates, opponents, and location of these games.

foyle-block.jpg
Adonal with a BOOMING block!

4) When was the last time Adonal dropped 20 points in a game? When was the last time he grabbed 20 boards in a game? Who did he put up those big numbers against?

foyle-jordan.jpg
Don't forget: 31 > 23

5) What is Adonal's favorite book according to the league's official website? Who is the author of this classic? What is this book about? Feel free to quote a description of the book, but you must provide a link to the source.

Better than the pregrame scouting report!

6) List at least 3 academic awards Adonal received during his 3 years at Colgate University.

FoyleBus2.bmp
Read to achieve and you can ride on the Foyle bus!

7) Adonal is the founder of two non-profit organizations. What are the names of these organizations? When did he start them? What are the missions of these two non-profits? Feel free to quote descriptions of these organizations, but you must provide a link to the source.

Speak on it Adonal! Speak on it!

8) During which Warriors season did Adonal Foyle become the Warriors all-time shot blocker? Who did he pass to reach this honor?

foyle-kids.jpg
Even the kids love Foyle's swats!

GSoM Quiz: 2 FREE Tix to Thursday's Game vs the Rockets!

Update: We have a winner!

Congrats to Zack Vank for being the first one to get all of the questions right. At 8:35:33PM he gave out all the correct answers. Hopefully his knowledge of the Warriors and Rockets is that much better. Thanks to everyone who played, unfortunately there could be only one winner. Zack Vank, email us at goldenstwarriors@gmail.com with the email you registered on the GSOM and we’ll get you all set up with the tickets. Have fun and make sure you put the roar in ROARacle.

Make the jump for the answers to the questions.

==================================================

Welcome to the 2nd GSOM ticket giveaway. This time, we're giving away our 2 lower bowl GSOM tickets to the game against the Rockets this Thursday (11/29). Just like the GSOM Pop Quiz a couple weeks ago, the first person (by comment timestamp) to answer all of the questions correctly wins. If nobody answers all of the questions correctly by 8p tomorrow, the first person with the most correct answers wins. Hopefully it doesn't come to that.

In preparation for the game against the Rockets on Thursday, this quiz is all about Warriors-Rockets history. So, without further ado, here are the questions for the quiz broken up into different section by difficulty. Put your answers in the comments.

Minnesota Timberwolves Section

Current ESPN Power Rankings

These are just to warm you up, they should be easy.

1) When you watch the game on Thursday and you`re sitting in our seats, you won`t have Bob and Jim telling you who the Rocket players are. This will get you ready for watching the game and knowing who the players are before you get there. There are several Rockets players who wear the same jersey number as Warriors players. List ALL of the pairs of Warriors and Rockets players who currently share the same jersey #.

2) The Rockets franchise didn't always call Houston home. Tell me the name of the city they used to play their home games and one of the Hall of Famers from that team.

Washington Wizards Section

These questions are about guys who used to be Warriors. With a little research on Google and GSOM (just use the handy dandy search box above), you'll be well on your way to scoring those tickets.

3) 2 part question.
Part 1: Current Rockets coach, Rick Adelman, coached the Warriors awhile ago. List the seasons he coached the Warriors along with the records for each season.
Part 2: Who succeeded Rick Adelman after he left Portland and who succeeded him after he left Golden State?

4) During the 1987-1988 season the Warriors and Rockets made a blockbuster deal involving one of the twin towers 7-foot-4 Ralph Sampson and a few other memorable names. Name all of the players involved in this trade between the two franchises and their points per game in their first full season after the trade.

Utah Jazz Section

The Warriors just can't beat these guys. This section is all about past losses and struggles. The guys below might not be winners, but by getting these correct, you just might be a winner.

5) Houston Rockets star guard Tracy McGrady has never made it past the first round in the playoffs. List each of the teams he played on, the teams he lost to in those playoff series and the years the losses occurred.

6) The Warriors and Rockets have never met in the playoffs, but have faced each other plenty of times over the years. Look back into the past 20 years. List the seasons from the 1986-1987 season through last year in which the Warriors won more games than they lost against Houston. If the answer is 0, simply put 0.

Funleavy Foto Fun Section

This section is all about pictures. We love pictures at GSOM and try to post them in every preview and recap for fun. To complete our quiz, you have to, in the GSOM tradition, go find a photo. For your answers in this section, provide either the link to the picture or put the image inline.

7) The Warriors drafted someone right before Tracy McGrady was taken #9 in a draft about a decade ago. Find a picture of the player the Warriors drafted dunking the ball.
Brownie Points (worth nothing but for fun): include a funny caption with your picture.

The first GSOMer (by comment timestamp) to answer all of the questions correctly wins the tickets. Now get to work, there's some history for you to learn. Here's a template to help you out with your answers:

1) #: Warriors Player - Rockets Player

2) City name:
Hall of Famer:

3) Season: Wins - Losses
Name of successor at Portland:
Name of successor at Golden State:

4) Warriors Received:
Player Name: PPG

Rockets Received:
Player Name: PPG

5) Season: Team He Played On - Team He Lost To

6) Season (if any)

7)

It's our version of the NBA All-Star Stay in School Jam!

[WVECSpirit]

Here's today's GSoM pop quiz. A friendly reminder to please keep your eyes on your own computer screens and no chatting with your neighbors while this 10 part quiz is in session.

  2. Combine the number of points and rebounds Jason Richardson had that historic night

  3. Take the square root of (your answer from part 1 minus the number from part 2)

  4. Multiply it by Tom Tolbert's Warriors jersey number during the 1989-1990 NBA season

  5. Divide your result from part 4 by how many times the Warriors have made the playoffs this decade

  6. Subtract this result by the number of years hoops legend Al Attles coached the Warriors

  7. Raise the result from part 6 to the nth power where n is the number of retired jerseys hanging in the rafters at the Oracle Arena

  8. Add the number of that fine July summer day that GSoM YouTube Tuesdays first started to your answer from part 7

  9. Round your answer from part 8 to 2 decimal places

  10. Ask a GSoM waterboy for a towel and some Gatorade to cool off- whew! If you completed parts 1-9 of this pop quiz you deserved it!

The first GSoMer to post the correct answer in the comments wins 2 tickets to this Wednesday's Warriors game against the Detroit Pistons in Oakland at the Oracle Arena. Break out your pencils, scratch paper, calculators (unless you amazingly can do this all in your head), and get your typing fingers ready for some serious Googling! Make sure to show your work from parts 1 through 10 in your answer too. Unfortunately no partial credit is granted.

The GSoM All-Star Stay in School Jam is UNSTOPPABLE BABY!

Update: Big ups to BobbyLeeHurt for being the first GSoMer to answer correctly and show their work! BobbyLeeHurt is unstoppably smart and has made history by being the first winner of a GSoM Pop Quiz. Email us at goldenstwarriors@gmail.com and we'll hook you up with the tix. Have a great time out at Wednesday's game! It's on your boys at GSoM.
