GSoM Night 4 - Get your tickets!

GSoM Night 4 T-shirt Design

GSoM Night 4 - Friday, March 21 vs Houston

As you all know, GSoM Night 4 vs Houston is rapidly approaching on March 21st, so we have just under 3 weeks to go. This game could have serious playoff implications if the standings remain as tight as they are right now. Even with Yao shelved, it's going to have a playoff-like atmosphere, something you won't want to miss.

We've got around 150 tickets remaining to be sold. Because of the popularity of the game and the Warriors, GSOM will only be able to pull in about 400 people. Thus the first 400 people will be guaranteed a free t-shirt.

Chris Murphy, the dynamic Warriors group ticket sales representative, is holding those remaining tickets for us. But with the game being so popular, he may not be able to reserve them much longer. Warriors management might just put them on sale to the general public. Order your tickets ASAP to make sure you get them.

Here's all the ordering information you need

Chris Murphy, Warriors group tickets sales representative, will take care of you. Follow these 2 simple instructions and you'll be on your way to getting your tickets.
  1. Download the form and fill it out.
  2. Email it to Chris ctmurphy@gs-warriors.com or fax it (510) 663-9192.

GSOM Night 3 & 4 - It's On

Allright allright, the GSoM Night party is back! We had nearly 900 people at GSoM Night 2 on opening night vs Utah. The game didn't turn out to be much fun, but the night was a big success. We had a raffle, got on the jumbotron, went to the courtside shootaround, had 16 and unders high-5 the players, and got to sport Tony.psd's slammin T-shirts.

We have 2 more events coming up and you can buy tickets to one or both in a package deal. The goodies will be similar to what you got in GSoM Night 2. Hit the jump for all the info - we have a lot to throw your way.

GSoM Night 2: Unveling the T-shirt

800 tickets sold = 800 free GSoM Night 2 t-shirts

Thanks to Tony.psd we have a t-shirt that is off the hook! It took some negotiating with the Warriors marketing department to get the shirt the way it is. We went back and forth multiple times on the design. We nailed down the design, picked out the colors (orange shirt with blue print), and got the shirts to the printing press. I haven't actually seen the shirts in person, but they have been ordered. Check out the design:

Let me take some time to answer some questions people have had about the shirts:

  • Can I buy the shirt?
Unfortunately, no. We're keeping it as a limited edition shirt and I'm not sure the Warriors would let us sell it anyways.
  • Will there be extras?
Again, no, there won't be any extras to hand out. The first 800 people to buy tickets to GSOM Night 2 will be getting a coupon in the mail to redeem for a t-shirt. You should have already received your GSoM Night 2 ticket package from Chris.
  • What size are the shirts?
We went with all XL, just like the We Believe shirts during last year's playoffs. It was too difficult to judge how many M, L, or XL's we needed, so we got a shirt that will fit most everyone.
  • Should I wear it at the game?
Yes. No matter what happens, wear it at the game because there will be 799 other people with the same shirt wearing it at the game. Solidarity brother.

We have a special treat too. We got one of the players to try it on for us to see how it looked. You'll have to hit the Read More link to find out who.

GSoM Night: The Remaining Tickets

There are still tickets available for GSoM Night 2! Warriors group ticket rep Chris Murphy is actively collecting and reserving any tickets he can so that more of the GSoM community can join in on what promises to be an exciting opening night. At last count we are up to 775 tickets sold. That's an absolutely amazing number! I'm sure by the time the game comes around, that number will be above 800. Wow. I'm amazed. I was amazed last year when 350 people showed up (I was expecting 75) and I'm again happily shocked by the community coming together like this. Think about it, 800+ fellow Warriors fans with a common bond all rocking the same t-shirt. Gonna be off the hook!

If you have yet to buy your tickets (shame on you), you still have the opportunity to get your procrastinating hands on some! The catch is this, only the first 800 tickets sold will be getting the GSOM Night 2 t-shirt. If we sell more than 800 tickets then anyone who buys tickets 801 and above will not be getting a t-shirt. You will still be placed in the raffle and get to watch the Warriors crush the Jazz though. So, just contact Chris and he'll set you up with tickets.

Tickets are $40 each (regularly $48) in the Club 200 Sideline sections 230-203 and 214-219. We'll be sitting as close to each other as possible so that we're one big group.

Email: ctmurphy@gs-warriors.com
Phone: (510) 986-2214

The T-Shirt
I gotta tell you, the GSoM Night 2 t-shirt is sick. Tony.psd is touching up the design and we'll unveil it to you soon. I can guarantee you this, if all of us are wearing it, people will know who we are because we'll definitely stand out.

Tickets are being mailed
I know a lot of you have been getting a little anxious about receiving your tickets, but don't worry, I just spoke with Chris Murphy about the tickets and they will be mailed out Thursday. He might still be at the office (it's 11p) putting packages together to be mailed out. So tickets should be in your mailbox sometime next week!

Mailed Instructions
Along with your tickets, you'll receive instructions on where and when all the festivities are taking place. For each ticket you purchased, you'll receive a ticket voucher, BRING THE T-SHIRT VOUCHER TO THE GAME (sorry didn't mean to yell). If you don't do that, you won't get a t-shirt. Also, if you were among the first 150 there will be instructions on how to get to the courtside shootaround. If you have a kid or are a kid 16 and under, there will be instructions on how to get to the high-5 event. Once all that information comes available to me, I'll post it here, but I wanted to stress the importance of these instructions so that we can all look like this during the game:

For those of you who can't make the game and are in the South Bay, Lifelong is trying to organize a get together on opening night too: IDEA: GSoM Night II South Bay edition. I hope as many people can get together with Lifelong to cheer on the Dubs. In fact, I bet you'll see the 800+ GSoM folks on tv!

2K7 Warriors Media Day: The Interviews (Part 3 - Boom and Beans)

GSoM Warriors Media Day coverage wouldn't be complete without covering interviews of Stephen Jackson, Baron Davis, and Andris Biedrins. Surprisingly, the audio I recorded with my digital audio recorder happened to pick up their voices well. So this time, instead of me giving my take on the interviews, I think it would be fun to just put the interviews up and let you listen to them. There's some background noise, but overall, you can hear their voices and the questions coming in. I managed to record pretty much the entire Baron interview and most of the Andris interview. Both are just over 12 minutes long.

Baron Davis
Baron was some calm and cool the entire time he was being interviewed. Even when talk of the extension came up, he was just chillin'. Even with all the mics and digital voice recorders jammed in front of him, he was calm. Even with 30 people huddling around him to hear what he has to say, he was as cool as the other side of the pillow. Listen in on the interview and you can pretend like you were right there sitting next to him. Baron on Media Day

Andris Biedrins
Andris seems like one of those guys that would just be cool to hang out with. In the interview, it's like he doesn't have a care in the world. He just seems to be happy. Listen to the interview and find out what he thinks about his extension, who he wants starting at the 2, and more. Andris on Media Day

Audio Bonus
Even though I went over these before, here's the audio from my two interviews with Kelenna Azubuike aka Special K and Stephane Lasme. Disclaimer, I gotta say the Kelenna interview is much better and there's some room for my interview skills to be improved. Don't be too hard on me now. Haha. Anyways, I hope you enjoy all the interviews.

2K7 Warriors Media Day: The Interviews (Part 2)

Here's some more Warriors Media Day coverage with my spin on the interviews. Everyone else is in this one except Baron and Beans. Once again, gotta thank the Warriors and Raymond Ridder for granting us access to the players and to be included as media. Hopefully, we can continue to get this kind of exclusive access and bring a fan's perspective to the practice facility and locker room. Anyways, lots to cover...go!

The vet showing the rookies how to pose

Austin Croshere
Surprisingly, he was a good interview. Both he and Troy Hudson have been around the league for awhile and they are so used to dealing with the media asking questions. They just looked comfortable sitting there with people firing questions and having microphones stuffed in front of their faces. Austin acted like that veteran presence that you want on your team. Seems like a good locker room guy. The whole interview, he seemed laid back, kind of slouching in his chair acting like this whole interview thing was nothing.

As far as the questions, he gave some good answers. He had nothing but praise for the Mavericks as a class organization that just ran into a hot team last year saying that the Warriors weren't your typical 8 seed since they had one of the best records in the 2nd half last year.

He also answered questions about being a veteran presence on a team with so many young guys. Basically, he said that each player is different and you just have to get to know the guys. Just talk to them and let them know that there have been guys who've gone through this before and eventually, they'll get through it. He's also looking forward to helping the young guys just like he helped Danny Granger in Indiana.

Patrick O'Bryant
I think it's really tough for a guy like Patrick O'Bryant to be at one of these events. He knows what questions are coming and a lot of the reporters don't want to approach certain subjects. After speaking with him and overhearing some interviews, Patrick is mainly working on his running and agility. He knows that the team needs him to rebound, and working on that is the best way for him to get in the game. He knows that he's got competition for minutes with the big men such as Croshere, Wright, and Perovic coming in, so it's not going to be easy to get minutes.

Matt Barnes
Barnes is the man. Something about the way he talks and the way he carries himself that has this magnetic quality about him. Sitting at the table just a few feet away and he had me engaged in the questions and answers. Charismatic guy. Even though I wasn't allowed to ask any questions because a few media members were around, he made sure to make eye contact with everyone of the people at the table. Which is cool because a lot of the guys seemed to look down or not directly at people when placed in the group setting. He's seems so chill in the interview and at the same time he makes you want to keep listening. And by the way, the tatts are crazy, definitely tight, but crazy good.

Anyways, one of the key things he said he worked hard on this offseason was his ballhandling, mid-range game and shooting off the dribble. He wanted to improve his ball handling because it shoulders some of the responsibility off of Baron and allows Baron to come off the ball. I guess we'll be seeing some more point Barnes. He's also working hard to prove he isn't a one hit wonder.

He looks at himself, Jax, and Baron as the coaches on the floor or as the reporter put it, "the glue". What will also help is to have Croshere around as another veteran presence and if for no other reason than to keep Boom healthy. He laughed that he didn't have to worry about Croshere trying to take out Baron.

He also spoke about how some of the new guys trying to make the team will be rewarded if they do because the style is so much fun. He's talked to Carlos Powell because Barnes was in a similar situation last year. If he does what's asked of him, he can make the team.

After the jump, we play Marco Polo, get our Halo 3 on, try to keep pace with Monta "Life Moves Fast" Ellis, and get buffed with Special K.

2K7 Warriors Media Day: The Interviews (Part 1)

First off, many thanks so much to Raymond Ridder and the Warriors for letting Golden State of Mind attend the Warriors Media Day. Hopefully we can set up some more things like this in the future. I'm sure all of the people here at GSoM appreciate the exclusive access.

Nervous? Definitely. I've never interviewed a player before and didn't know what to expect especially with tons of other media members running around trying to get quotes.

Fun? Most definitely. Getting to interview and talk with these guys was a blast because it puts them on a different level. Usually we just see these guys as players on the court, not as people just like you and me. We put them on a higher pedestal because they can do things that I can only dream of. But getting a chance to sit down and talk with them, you see their personalities come out. They're no longer just basketball players, they're just guys like you and me who happen to be really, really, really good at basketball.

Here's basically how it all went. Each player would sit down at a table fit for 8 people and just answer questions as they came in. All of us would put our digital voice recorders close to the players and get sound bytes (I'll work on digitizing the audio). Being a rookie, I wasn't supposed to interrupt the flow of the interview with any of the media members around so instead observed the veterans in action. When players were by themselves I was allowed to ask them questions. I pretty much went around to each player and either got to listen in or ask a few questions. The only player who wasn't there was Mickael Pietrus. I bet he's a fun interview, maybe next time.

The international crew having fun during the photo shoot

In addition to the interview tables, there were a bunch of photography areas where the players would pose and take promo shots with a green screen in the background. There was also a table for players to say record sound bytes like, "Whassup, this is Matt Barnes of the Golden State Warriors, rockin with MindMotion on 106 KMEL." It truly was a media day.

I'll start with some big news: In his interview session today, Baron Davis said he is not opting out of his contract next year. Check out OptionZero's diary on the topic, Baron Davis: NOT opting-out. OZ copied and pasted Tim Kawakami's transcript, basically exactly what I heard today. I think the only person there who would ask that question was Tim.

Update: Make sure to head on over to Warriors World to peep their coverage of the day. James Venes has done a great job on the transcription of most of the interviews that went on. That saves me a lot of work! But I'll get up the transcriptions I have soon to pair with James' coverage.

My takes on the individual interviews after the jump.
