Q&A With Kevin Pelton Of Basketball Prospectus: Nate Robinson's Impact, Developing Klay Thompson & Other Player Projections

Monta Ellis is obviously known for his dynamic scoring ability, but it's his ability to create scoring opportunities for others that stands out as significant for the Golden State Warriors this season. Photo by Ezra Shaw/Getty Images.

For those not familiar with Pro Basketball Prospectus - or the work of co-authors Bradford Doolittle and Kevin Pelton at BasketballProspectus.com - it is like an encyclopedia of NBA statistics and team analysis for the season that's worth a read for any die-hard basketball fan.

Due to the NBA lockout, Pro Basketball Prospectus 2011-12 was released later than their past two editions and has come with a .PDF supplement as well as a few supplementary articles on BasketballProspectus.com to keep you as updated as possible during the whirlwind start to this shortened season.

So perhaps you can consider this Q&A with Pelton as the "Golden State Warriors supplement", which includes thoughts on what Nate Robinson might contribute to the team, what might help rookie Klay Thompson develop into a productive NBA player, the team's most surprising statistic through 10 games, and rumors of little-known cloning experiments in Los Angeles during the 2005-06 season.

Golden State Warriors Vs. Philadelphia 76ers Preview: Q&A With SB Nation's Liberty Ballers

Philadelphia 76ers' forward Thaddeus Young is an intriguing talent, but has holes in his game that has made him "the definition of a tweener" with a perhaps uncertain role in helping the Sixers' become a contender. AP Photo/Greg Wahl-Stephens.

During SB Nation's blogger conference in Las Vegas this summer, I had the pleasure of playing ball with a few folks from the SBN NBA network. It was unbearably hot (even at 8 am in the morning) so I can hardly remember who won, but I do remember guarding Mike Levin of SBN's Philadelphia 76ers site Liberty Ballers (who claims that he and Rohan of At The Hive won "more often than not").

Anyway, with the Golden State Warriors playing the Sixers tonight, I figured I'd get back in touch with Mike for a Q&A about a team that only makes one trip a year to Oracle Arena and has a few intriguing talents that have been discussed on this site once or twice.

GSoM: Liberty Ballers contributor Tanner Steidel wrote that the Sixers' big win against the Suns was due in large part to their defense, but their offense seems to be a work in progress at this point. What would you attribute the Sixers' offensive struggles to right now - simply a matter of needing more time to gel after the lockout or some bigger problem with this unit as currently constructed?

Mike Levin: The Sixers aren't a good offensive team. They have a few pieces who are good at certain things (Spencer Hawes' passing, Elton Brand in the midrange, Thaddeus Young on the offensive glass) but they don't run anything near a cogent offense. Most plays aren't diagrammed, it's closer to pick-and-roll isolations while spreading the court. Ugly, garbage pail kind of stuff. They're best in the open court where Jrue Holiday, Andre Iguodala, and Thad can work. "Middling" can describe this unit until they have a bonafide stud to pull them from mediocrity (hopefully Evan Turner).

The Beginner's Media Credential Experience II at Bulls-Warriors: Navigating The Oracle, Wilbon The Man, Art Spander, Turkish Reporters, Derrick Rose, And More

Instead of going to the Dubs' locker room post-game, I chose to listen in on the MVP.

I was fortunate to have media credential access to last night's party at the Oracle, the Golden State Warriors 99-91 victory over the Chicago Bulls. Here's my behind-the-scenes recap.

I'm still a rookie at this, so this is another fly-on-the-wall type of write-up. Eventually we'll reach a point where I'm doing some cool interviews left and right, but for now I'm just soaking it all in (and trying not to get lost from locker room to locker room). Baby steps.

This was my second time. My first time was a win -- I guess I'm now a good luck charm and they'll have to keep having me back, haha! -- last year against the Los Angeles Clippers where I described what it was like to have a media credential.

Golden State Warriors TweediaDay Curiosities Wrap-Up (Belated)

Golden State Warriors Office Entrance

This report is absurdly late, but I had some photos from last week's TweediaDay (linksannouncement). I'll start off with the above, which was hinted at by some of the guys in the Warriors' sales department who alluded to a refurbished front office. This is what you see as you enter the hallway leading to the practice facility. Copperplate is here to stay, folks!

Golden State Of Mind To Cover Warriors TweediaDay (Media Day) This Afternoon

Golden State Warriors head coach Mark Jackson, center, talks with point guard Stephen Curry (30) as players look on during NBA basketball practice in Oakland, Calif., Friday, Dec. 9, 2011. (AP Photo/Paul Sakuma)

Today at 2:30PM PST I'll have the fortunate opportunity to attend the Golden State Warriors' second incarnation of TweediaDay, which is a fancy way of saying "Media Day with a heavy dose of Twitter". Click here for last year's coverage.

Via this thread or more preferrably on Twitter (our handle is @unstoppablebaby), please let us know what questions you would like me to ask players, or really whatever. Choose your own adventure!

NBA Free Agency Q&A With Clips Nation On DeAndre Jordan: Potential Star Or Future Albatross?

Having apparently missed out on other free agent centers like Nene, the Golden State Warriors are hoping that restricted free agent DeAndre Jordan gives them the defensive center they've been (perpetually) searching for. AP Photo/Mark J. Terrill.

In comparison to the Golden State Warriors' other free agent center targets, restricted free agent center DeAndre Jordan is something of an unknown commodity.

Ultimately, your opinion of the Warriors' 4-year, $40 million dollar offer for the 6-foot-11 center - and the Los Angeles Clippers' expected decision to match and leave the Warriors without yet another free agent target - probably comes down to whether you believe it's worth paying for potential at the risk of him becoming nothing more than a future albatross contract.

GSoM community member ivanbe has already written that 4-years and $40 million is too much and that making moves like that is yet another Warriors-based example of how bad teams gets worse (click here to read it).

But Steve Perrin of SB Nation's Clips Nation offers us some insight about what Jordan has shown during his three-year career in L.A. and what he might become wherever he ends up playing in the future (in response to questions that have emerged from GSoM discussions) . His message probably gives ammo to those both for and against the Warriors' signing Jordan at that price: "DJ is who he is", says Perrin, but "you have to pay for size".

NBA Free Agency Q&A With Mavs Moneyball: How Much Is Tyson Chandler Really Worth?

Tyson Chandler helped the Dallas Mavericks win the 2011 NBA Finals with his defense, but how much is he worth in free agency...for a team like the Golden State Warriors? Photo by Ronald Martinez/Getty Images.

When I first contacted LJRotter of SB Nation's Mavs Moneyball about a Tyson Chandler Q&A two days ago, the Golden State Warriors still seemed to have a`realistic chance to sign him.

Barring a minor miracle, that's no longer the case - as most people reading this site probably know by now, Chandler is likely headed to the New York Knicks for somewhere around $58 million over 4 years and the Warriors have turned their attention elsewhere.

Nevertheless, in light of a Warriors offer that was considered excessive by some fans before being trumped by the Knicks offer, there might be a lingering question for fans dreaming about what could've been for the Warriors with a true center in the fold: How much is Chandler worth?

LJRotter and her crew from MMB have some interesting insight for fans still wondering whether it would have been worthwhile to offer Chandler more money to make sure he came to the Bay.

Free Agency Q&A With Denver Stiffs: Nene, His Position, And How Much Longer He'll Play

Golden State Warriors forward Ekpe Udoh, left, defends against Denver Nuggets Center Nene, of Brazil, right, in the first quarter of an NBA basketball game between the Golden State Warriors and the Denver Nuggets in Denver on Monday, April 11, 2011. AP Photo/Chris Schneider.

It's pretty well established by now that Nene wants to play for someone other than the Denver Nuggets after this year's lockout-shortened free agent frenzy, with the Golden State Warriors being one of the teams vying for his services.

With plenty of talk around here about Nene and how he might fit on the Warriors, Nate Timmons of SB Nation's Denver Stiffs offered to answer a few questions about the Brazilian big man that have popped up in various places on this site.
