YouTubeTuesday: The College Baron

I was surfing around YouTube last night I thought I'd post a couple highlights I found from Baron's college years. Just for fun.

The first is one a dribble fake that I'm sure all Warrior fans are familiar with - the behind the back dribble in the open court back to the same hand. The thing about this one is not so much the move - for someone who can dribble, the move isn't that difficult - it's the reaction of the defender in the paint. Dude gets completely faked out. Just watch.

One more highlight after the jump...

YouTube Tuesday - Express Yourself

Ugh.

While you wait for the traditional dope Atma recap on a not-so-dope-game, let's hop into the wayback machine and go to a time when things were better in Warriorland.

See, now that C-Webb has joined the ranks again, many of us are filled with glimmers of hope. For as much as we cannot deny his age, we also cannot deny his skill, his hoops IQ, and overall god given talent for the game of basketball.

So let us reach back into our inner depths and think back to when Webber and the Warriors gave us the warm and fuzzies. A time when your very own GSoM boys were rockin' Hypercoler shirts in 7th and 8th grade. A time when BMX ruled the biking world. A time when Jurassic Park was rocking the box office and when the only thing cooler on the radio that 2Unlimited's - No Limit was Ace of Base's - All That She Wants... (or vice versa.)

hypercolor
Heh heh heh. Hell yea!

Or simply, a time when Webber and Spree sat down to get a cut, and make this GSoM favorite Nike commercial.

Props to Atma and nautica for digging up this old classic. I don’t believe in role models but uh… you mine.

YouTube Tuesday II: Focus Your All-Star Votes Here!

I saw this tonight on tv and even though it's not Warriors related, it's hilarious. I had to put this up here to accompany Hash's Melo video. With all the diaries about All-Star voting, I just want to throw this name out there. Vote for Chris Bosh! He's a great young star getting no exposure in Toronto. Him and Jose Calderon are tearing it up for the Raptors but get 0 press. Plus he's a great actor, check it out.

If you get points for creativity (or being desperate) this wins hands down. Definite style points. Good to see the normally reserved Bosh's personality come out. Be scary if that's how he normally spoke, although he did go to school in the South. Hmmm... Now only if Bubba was on the ballot, I'd vote for him too.

I could see Jax doing this. He is the sheriff after all and sheriffs wear cowboy hats. Call Lucasarts and let's get this produced.

YouTube Tuesday: I Knew I Liked That Guy!!!

Hey c'mon now... I know it's easy to hate a guy like `Melo. He's rich. He's young. He rips our defense apart every time we play the Nuggets. He gets to play with A.I.

But seriously man... why all the hate? He's not so bad. He genuinely seems like a good guy! I mean, if there was an old lady standing on a street corner, I'm sure he'd help her cross the street! That's what good people do!

If `Melo was coming out of the grocery store and there was a group of girl scouts selling cookies, I bet he'd buy a few boxes. Even if all they had left were those crappy Trefoil cookies. Y'know, the shortbread ones completely devoid of chocolate anywhere on the cookie. Why do they even make those?! But I digress...

Most importantly, if `Melo saw a hardworking point guard that wasn't getting credit due, well, I believe that he would endorse him for the All-Star game. Even if that point guard wasn't on his team. Even if he played for the Warriors. Why?

That's just the kind of guy that `Melo is.

(Mad love to our girl MissGossip for conducting and sending us this interview. Also, mad jealousy that she gets to hang out with NBA players. But more the love thing.)

YouTube Tuesday: Loud and Proud

Why the Miami game?

Because it was just that good of a show. The comeback, the passion, and the crowd (wow!).

Our recent game against Miami is just one of many examples that we are a part of a new Warriors generation. I can't even count how many times in the past we've complained about not being a "fourth quarter team". Clearly not the case here.

Things are a little different now. We have heroes now. We have weapons now. Beans, Ellis, Jax, Harrington, Barnes, Kabuki, and of course the mighty mighty Baron.

Granted, Riley didn't make the moves to properly stop us from stealing the win in the waning minutes of the game. As I watch these highlights, however, I start to realize why.

He probably couldn't even hear himself think.

YouTube Tuesday: A Diamond Still Rough

MIP to MVP?

Nope! Not quite yet. Despite a great overall performance, it's clear that Monta still has a little bit of growing to do. Out overtime last night was most revealing in that without Baron, there was a lot of nervousness in our remaining ball handlers. It was a scary glimpse into what we may have to endure if Baron (god forbid) got injured and had to sit out a few games.

As our team looks towards the future, however, Monta becomes more and more of an asset with each passing game. Where is he going to be mid-season? Where is he going to be next season? Where is he going to be years from now?

While the answer to that question, (scarily enough) may be "another team", it's exciting to think of Monta on the Warriors a year or two from now. Imagine Ellis with the confidence to lead this team when Baron is off of the floor. Imagine being able to place him in the same 6th man category as players like Jason Terry or (one of my personal favorites) Bobby Jackson. Or better yet, beyond 6th man. Who would we be comparing him to then?

The talent is there. To some degree, he's still a bit of coal, waiting to turn into a brilliant diamond.

Just a little more time.

Just a little more pressure.

Mad props as always to PFortyy for another amazing creation!

YouTube Tuesday: Never Lose the Pain

One of the most beautiful things about a true Warriors fan is how deeply rooted in modesty they are. Granted, it's not really a choice; 12 years of subpar basketball has left us cynical even in times of success.

But even when we do come out and play like an elite team , Warriors fans tend to stay deeply rooted to in-depth analysis about why we were successful. (Maybe I'm spoiled by this site.) In short, the average Warriors fan knows basketball. They know theory. They know players. They know stats. After all, for 12 years, all we had to cling on to were things like knowledge of our opponents. How are we going to contain Player X? How are we going to possibly score when we're guarded by Player Y? Who is going to win the Luther Head award tonight?!

Can you honestly blame a Dubs fan for knowing season averages for the Warriors AND their opponents? Can you blame a Dubs fan for formulating movements for highly skilled players that aren't even on our team? Our failures have bred us into fans who eat, sleep, and dream this game.

So this week, let's get a roll call for the drought victims who helped shape us into the fans we are today. Major props to Huge in Asia for getting the list started. Feel free to throw in some of your own favorites they may have missed!

YouTube Tuesday: Enter the DJ

So we bid a fond farewell to Lasme, and we say a...um multilingual hello to DJ Mbenga. (Evidently he speaks French and Portuguese.)

While it can be argued that it's never a bad thing to add a 7-footer on our squad, it remains to be seen how Nellie is going to implement DJ into our line-up. It's doubtful that he is going to see some serious minutes; however his boarding and swatting talents can hopefully be imparted amongst some of our budding young'uns.

But then again with Nellie, you never know. POB and Wright are extremely young players with extremely limited experience. Anyone who has been watching this season (with the possible exception of the last Clips game) has seen a lot of nervousness and careless errors on their parts. The DJ might finally be in an environment where he can flourish.

Let's trust in Nellie as we always have and hope for the best. Welcome to the Bay, DJ.

And with that, we’ll leave you with our parting words for the week. Or rather, parting word…

This easily wins the prize for most random video on YouTube.

YouTube Tuesday: Right Before Our Eyes

How many times in your history of being of a Warriors fan have you seen some mediocre player from the opposing team come out and have a career night against our beloved Dubs?

It's actually happened to us so many times that the term "Warrior Killer" is widely recognized amongst all Arena-goers. Perhaps the most frustrating thing about this term is that the Warrior Killer is usually a mid-range player for the opposing team. In short, we seem to have a knack for allowing the mediocre seem invincible.

Unfortunately we haven't chalked up a win yet this season, because if we had, our opponents would probably be wondering who the hell Kelenna Azubuike is. They may even make the mistake of discounting him as a mediocre player who had a lucky night.

It takes a Warrior fan to know that we may have something pretty special brewing here. So this week, here's a little tribute to Kabuki himself.

YouTube Tuesday: Yoga Dunk!

Remember back in the day when you were playing Street Fighter II at your local Arcade/7-11/Donut Shop? Some random kid would approach the machine and do one of two things.

1) Ask if it was okay to join in on the game. This was a display of proper Street Fighter II etiquette. Ninety-nine percent of the time you would say "Yes" anyways, it was just nice that you were asked.
2) They’d drop a quarter in without asking right before you were about to nail Bison with his final hit in the second round. Horrendous.

On rare occasions, the challenger would head straight for Dhalsim and select him. At that point you knew you were in trouble. (Especially if you had a character who couldn’t throw projectiles.) See if the kid actually knew how to use Dhalsim, he could usually cause a world of damage to you from the safety of the other side of the screen. I mean c’mon; the man could kick and punch the entire length of the screen!

Now in no way am I saying that Dhalsim was the cheesiest character in Street Fighter II. (An honor reserved for Cheese Li herself) I’m merely pointing out that there was a bit of unfairness in Dhalsim’s reach and that I sucked so bad at Street Fighter II that I was unable to find one of the possibly many ways to prevent these cross country long-arm attacks.

At least Lithuania knows how I feel.
