RECAP: Open Practice Part Deuce

Fantasy Junkie and I rolled to open practice last night and had a great time out! If you haven't already, check out Fantasy Junkie's great analysis of last night's drills, scrimmage, and MC Nellie in RECAP: Open Practice

I also wanted to give a shout out to powerlocks, one of the great photographers we're blessed to have in the GSoM community. Check out his pics of Mickael "Starting 3" Pietrus about to throw it down and Mike Dunleavy, well whining to the refs (it was pretty funny- people in the stands were cracking up).

If you take any cool pictures at the games this year, send them to us at goldenstwarriors@gmail.com and we'll give you a shout out in our world famous post game recaps (the AP's got nothing on us!).

Lastly, make sure to check out what GSoM friend Tim Kawakami thought about the "slop-fest" in Warriors’ open practice: Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy

Tim's whole piece is on point as usual, but I wanted to highlight this part in particular:

There were at least 2,500 people?in the stands. I know it was free. But that?s a?great turn-out for a team that has lost for 12 consecutive seasons.?The Warriors have tremendous fans, which I will note for the thousandth time. The Warriors need to give them something real to cheer for.
I couldn't agree any more with Tim. The turnout was simply amazing. To borrow a line from my favorite player Allen Iverson: "Practice?! We're talking about practice!"

If we're all having this much fun in the offseason and in practice (!), just think how exciting the regular season is going to be. I don't know about you all, but I can't wait!

Mad shoutout from Tim
Wow, he's referencing the fine journalizm here for in-depth practice coverage. I was gonna take my 2 year old son with me to view this practice, but he kinda melted down and I put him to bed early instead.  No worries, I knew the GSOM crew would report with the next best thing to being there detail.  But, no online updates?  Wasn't the Wifi working at the XO lounge?  Keep it up GSOM, and soon you'll be getting key interviews like Blez on Athletics Nation.  With more shoutouts from Tim, it may happen sooner than later.

Online updates during games
Tim has always shown us a lot of luv. We really appreciate it. He does an excellent job covering Bay Area sports.
But, no online updates?  Wasn't the Wifi working at the XO lounge?

Haha, I was actually talking about that with Fantasy Junkie at the game. I'm not sure if they'd let us bring a laptop in. We'll look into it. Would be kinda goofy.

Not surprising. . .
Well, I guess this site just couldn't go a week without dumping on Dun.  (If you run those pics tomorrow, it'll be three days in a row.)  And, not that you need to "cover" anything, but if you were watching, you'd know MD had a genuine beef on that play.  (Geez.  When he shows no emotion, you dump on him; when he shows emotion, you dump on him.  Oh, well.)
Guess you didn't stay around for the free throw exercise.  (I know, how boring, how passe.)  The new trim and fit Boom Fizzle still can't shoot free throws.  In fact, he was so bad his misses had the team running laps for about half an hour.  Strange that there was no mention of this; nor do we see any pix of BD clanging those gimmees.  Well, we're not looking for objectivity here, are we?
   Aaaah.  The more things change. . . . .

Free throw excercise?
We waited till the very end to leave. Did we miss a free throw exercise?

Also read Fantasy Junkie's original recap. He noted that Baron missed treys and a wide open dunk (that was funny and he even laughed it off).

You're right
The free throw episode was yesterday, not Monday night.  To use a Manute Bol coinage: My bad.  Must have missed the pix of the BD clangers you ran, though.  Can we look forward to a third run of the Dunleavy "complaint" pix again tommorow?  Hard to pass up such a fun -- if totally irrelevant (at least from a BBall perspective) -- thing.
Apparently not all were laughing at MD; in fact, he got kudos for being one of the few Dubs to stick around and sign autographs for the fans after the scrimmage.  (I guess BD had better things to do.  Just wish it were practicing his free throws.)

c'mon johnl, it's a scrimmage
I said in the recap that it was a bad call. No doubt about that, the ref blew it. Had it been a real game, the fans would have been booing the ref and Dunleavy showing that emotion would be good. But really, is there any need to complain to the refs in a scrimmage? It's not like complaining is going to get him the call the next time down. Just laugh it off and have fun. The open practice is for the fans. Complaining to the refs is not fan friendly.

I liked it ... and again agree with JohnL
Nothing wrong with Dunleavy showing some emotion and intensity. even during a scrimmage. This is his year. you watch. We ... as in this site, takes too many pot shots at Dunleavy ... so i have to agree with John here again ... though I hate being the only one who has to defend Dunleavy with John ahahaha.

nothing wrong...
I agree, there's nothing wrong with showing emotion and intensity, but you have to know when and where. Simply showing them can be detrimental to the team. Controlling them is the key and Dun showed a lack of control during the scrimmage.

I felt that the majority of the crowd was turned off by his outburst and was jeering him. Again, there's a right place and a wrong place to express your emotions. The open practice, which is meant for the fans, was the wrong place.

My boy Fantasy Junkie's on point
There's a difference between throwing it down and getting all pumped up versus whining at the refs. Especially when you're a captain like Dunleavy is now, you have to show restraint and cool when dealing with refs. Dunleavy's now in his 5th year. He needs to be a good role model for the younger players.

Oh definitely
Always feel free to send stuff you want us to put up  goldenstwarriors@gmail.com

We might be a little slow getting it up with the regular mania of maintaining GSoM and work/ school, but we'll always get back to you.

The best thing might be to post those clips and pictures in a diary. It's fun for everyone and it will get up immediately.

Hey
Was Foyle THAT bad? Just wondering. And was he 3rd team?

I wouldn't worry that much. Once I see Game 1, I get worried.

I'm very, very glad Wagner is looking good. A true Warrior he is. The colon just slowed him down!

And Dunleavy probobly just couldn't control his rage. Maybe he needs anger managment.

I dod hope the Nellie can look at this practice and say "Hey, why are we tthe same as last year, but even weaker inside?" and fix the problem.

And I can now stand by my statement that Zarko is just as good as Biedrins.

I went to some Hornets thing, and I got my pic with Cedric Simmons and Hilton Armstrong! I even got a donut from Cedric Simmons!

I know its off topic, but it will be so cool, if Cedric Simmons ever gets good, that later on I can say he gave me a donut.

RUN FOYLE, RUN!!!!

by Zorgon on Oct 10, 2006 8:52 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

The real question is...
Did the donut taste good?

What kind of guy are you? Sprinkles or no sprinkles? Glazed or plain? Filling? These are all very important questions.

by Fantasy Junkie on Oct 10, 2006 11:15 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

It was just a
Glazed donut. There were other flavors, but by the time he got to the front (where I was) that was all that was left.

As far as my favourite flavor, its probobly blueberry, although I like most all donuts. The only donut I don't like is jelly filled. Disgusting.

Nice coverage and pics from the GSOM gang
and forum junkies.

Someone should have told Mike we're talking about practice.

Side humor, the ref tucking in Zarko's jersey in the background!
