GSoM NBA Preview: Western Conference Power Picks

This is how the West will be won this season:

1 If Amare's even 75% of what he was 2 years ago- WATCH OUT.

2 They blew a great chance to get a ring last season, but I guess the refs had a little something to do with that.

3 Yaaaawwwnnn... More than the dress code and the new ball, David Stern should work to ban the Spurs from the NBA. They're THAT bad for the ratings.

4 Shawn Livingston's going to have a breakout season. Their owner is a loser though.

5 They should be a top 3 team, but do you really think they're going to be healthy?

6 They'll be the top dog in a weak division.

7 Do you really think a team with Kobe and Phil won't make the playoffs?

8 Do you really think a team with Baron, JRich, and Nellie won't make the playoffs?!! "UNSTOPPABLE BABY!"

9 Ron-Ron's predicting finals, but I'm predicting the end of the playoffs in hickville for a few years.

10 Jerry Sloan will have them playing hard the whole season, but it won't be enough with Derek Fisher trying to be the Salt Lake Kobe.

11 They overachieved last season, overpaid for Peja, and picked up Tyson Chandler's bad contract.

12 Fellas, there's a nice spot for you in San Jose.

13 They've won as many playoffs games as the Warriors in the past 12 seasons.

14 FREE KG! KG luvs India and we luv KG. Bring KG to the Bay!

15 They're fielding a college team.

How do you think the Western Conference will play out this year? Post your picks in the comments section and we'll see who did the best Nostradamus impersonation after the Western Conference finals in late May.

man
as much faith i have in the warriors, its going to be toughhh.  I think the hornets have a good shot at making that 8th spot and you cant count out the kings still.

Western Conference...
1/2)  Phoenix (This is a contingency pick.  It totally depends on whether Amare can play this season, especially in the playoffs!  Great leaders won't allow their teams' to falter, and something tells me that neither will Steve Nash)
2/1)  Dallas (Nowitzki has another MVP-type season)
  1.  San Antonio (The most boring team in the league is always a top 5er)
  2.  Los Angeles Clippers (Elton Brand vies for the MVP award while Cuttino Mobley goes for the 6th man award and Shaun Livingston & Chris Kaman both go for the most improved player award)
  3.  Sacramento (Musselman is a great coach and Ron Artest is a SUPERSTAR... with a good starting lineup and good supporting cast this should be a fun team to watch... as usual)
  4.  Houston (If McGrady and Ming can stay healthy and coach Van Gundy can FINALLY click with the team, then they should be good... VERY GOOD)
  5.  Denver (Looks good on paper but doesn't click on the court for some reason)
  6.  Golden State Warriors (come on man... don't we all wanna see them get here or higher?  DR. Diddy M.P. should have the most exciting starting lineup (at least for us W fans) in the league with Nelson's uptempo game)
  7.  New Orleans (New and improved roster looks to mimic the Saints but falls short of a playoff spot)
  8. Los Angeles Lakers (Kobe can't pull a miracle out of his ass two years in a row)
  9.  Utah (This will be as good as the Jazz can be for the next few years)
  10.  Seattle (It's sad to see Ray Allen on a team going nowhere fast... and with Rashard jumping ship at the end of the season it looks even worse next season)
  11.  Minnesota (Under a rebuilding phase... again!  Please FREE KG!)
  12.  Memphis (Lets face it, without Pau until Jan or Feb, this team is done)
  13.  Portland (It's a college team! It's a high school team!  NO!  It's portland going hard for the Greg Oden draft!  Watch out Atlanta... you have competition for the worst team in the league)

Rankings
1. San Antonio
Blah Blah Blah, one last Hurrah!
2. Dallas
Dallas sucks for giving up Finley and Nash. I poo at them.
3. Houston
Arr you already know why.
4. New Orleans/Oklahoma City
A few good players plus Chris Paul can really make a difference.
5. Golden State
A cood coach can really boost a lost team.
6. Clippers
The team looks good. The West is tough.
7. Phoenix
This team is all Nash, and I doubt Amare can come back in full force if at all. He'll be a shell of what he was. Need an example? Look at Vin Baker.
8. Denver
Same as Sacramento. They'll get 4th seed due to division though.
9. Utah
They'll barely miss the playoffs- just liek last season.
10. Sacramento
Same as last season, better conference.
11. Memphis
No Gasol = No chance.
12. Lakers
Radmanovic can't lift this team anywhere. The Lakers are still faking it.
13. Minnesota
Still blah. KG won't get into the hall of fame if he stays in that mess.
14. Portland
They've got everything but a PG. And chemistry.
15. Seattle
Nothing going for them, and a sloppy fan base. Haven't really improved at all.

On an unrelated note, what happened to Spree? Where did he go? I miss him.

Spree...
He's probably working hard somewhere trying to feed his family!  We all know he didn't make enough in the NBA.
