GSoM NBA Preview: Picking the Hardware

This is how it will go down this season:

Eastern Conference Champ
shaq.jpg
Miami Heat
Young teams get their fans' hopes up. Older teams win titles.

Western Conference Champ
amare.jpg
Phoenix Suns
Our friends at SunsGossip think the Suns are going 82-0. That's probably not going to happen, but with Amare dunking on fools this should be the year they break from the Western Conference pack

NBA Finals Champ
dwade.jpg
Miami Heat
Anything to get Pat Riley to dance to Yung Joc again!

MVP
kobe-finger.jpg
Kobe Bryant
Kobe was robbed last season. He knows it. Phil knows it. Steve Nash knows it. And you know it. He's going to play like a man possessed this year. Not that he doesn't do that every season.

Coach of the Year
nellie-fight-the-power.jpg
Don Nelson
If you can take the Warriors to the promised land (in the Bay Area we call that the 8th seed in the playoffs and a first round sweep), you're good enough for Coach of the Century in the NBA.

Rookie of the Year
brandon-roy.jpg
Brandon Roy
Roy for ROY just sounds hot.

6th Man of the Year
boykins-shaq.jpg
Earl Boykins
The man's so good he makes killin' elephants cool.

Most Improved Player
dwight-howard.jpg
Dwight Howard
In a few years he'll be competing for MVP honors.

Comeback Player of the Year
wagner-250.jpg
Dajuan Wagner
Look out for that floater and more on this feel good story! Amare could win it too.

Executive of the Year
paxonchi.jpg
John Paxson (Bulls)
The Bulls' moves this offseason were a little overrated, but they were still pretty solid.

Who will be walking away with the trophies this year? Post your picks in the comments section and we'll see who did the best guesswork after the NBA Finals in June.

Bulls example for Warriors
First the Bulls aquiring Wallace 15 M and losing do-nothing Tyson Chandler 10M is huge.  Noone thought the franchise player would leave and he's only 5M more than Chandler.

Second, Bulls added 8 news guys to the roster including probably the best draft prospect five years hence, Tyrus Thomas.  Nellie would die to have Tyrus.

Meanwhile, we GSW fans talked about a possible Marvin Ely trade, Miami got one year older and Detroit lost their core player.

Bulls coach Scott Skiles copied Nellie's old school small ball and was lucky enough to have the NBA rules change to favor perimeter players.

4th to pick...
East Champs:   Chicago Bulls... (DAMN! Can this team be anymore complete?)
West Champs:  Phoenix Suns... (Nash to Amare, Marion, OR Diaw... Unfreekingbelievable!)
NBA Champs:   Phoenix Suns (Offense topples Defense)
MVP:  Lebron James (tough choice between him, Arenas, and Nowitzki)
Coach of the Year:  Don Nelson (was there any doubt that he would get this for the fourth time?)
Rookie of the Year:  Adam Morrison (Next Larry Bird? Probably not... but he does have a knack for scoring)
6th Man:  Boris Diaw (will end up going to the bench and should have this award in the bag)
Most Improved Player:  Mike Dunleavy Jr. (Can't we have this one too?)
Comeback Player of the Year:  Grant Hill (Should be HEALTHY... should be...)
Exec of the Year:  John Paxson (Put a GREAT team together and he's still under the cap... DAMN)

Yeah
I'm not feelin this Bulls love. If there were a most improves TEAM award they might win it but I don't expect too much noise from them in the post season.
