OPEN THREAD: GAME #10- Warriors vs Sonics

Warriors (W-L): 6-3

Sonics (W-L): 4-6

Time: 7:30PM PST tip off

It might rain in Seattle non-stop, but it's been raining game in Northern California lately. The Warriors are red hot after some entertaining wins against the Kings, Raptors, Pistons, and Hornets. Let's see if the Dubs can make it 5 straight W's. This is a statement game for the Warriors- they need to send a message loud and clear to the Sonics that they're a superior team.

Tonight's game isn't televised, but I'll be there to get you some first hand insights and jokes. If you're going to be there, look for me in a Warriors jersey. (The bad jokes have already started!) For those of you at home, don't fret! Tim Roye and Jim Barnett do an excellent job on the radio telecasts on KNBR 680. Make sure to tune in and keep hitting refresh on that live box score!

The rumor circulating around the blogosphere is that Miss Gossip from the world famous SunsGossip will be in attendance tonight at The Oracle Arena. Something tells me that after tonight's big Warriors win, we'll be seeing a new and improved blog called WarriorsGossip.

Vegas Odds: Warriors favored by 6

Predictions

  • Warriors by 10
  • Boom Dizzle continues his amazing play and drops a double-double
  • Andris Biedrins gets a double-double
  • Sonics' swingmen Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis each drop 25+
  • Sonics' big man Chris Wilcox gets a double-double
  • WarriorsGossip hits the hoops blogosphere by the end of this decade

Make sure to give us your prediction for who will win and by how many points in the Comments.

If you're watching or listening near a computer, post any comments you have during the game right here.

THROW UP A W!!

Update:

WARRIORS WIN 107-95!!

Final Box Score

Stay tuned for a PHAT recap...

sonics game
Wilcox is gonna be tough for us to guard.  I think that Ike would do a good job against him, anyone know if he's playing?  They have some size in the frontcourt and it would be way better if Murph and Diogu were active.

And I think Nellie should just let Baron post up Ridnour all night.  They are gonna have to double team him and Baron can find open guys.  Didn't him and Ridnour get into a little scuffle last year and Baron got T'd up?

for the sake of fantasy hoops

Maybe TV?
I'm wondering if the folks with NBA League Pass will get to see the game. Do the games that aren't televised locally get blacked out if other market has them? I've actually never had the pleasure of having League Pass, so I don't know how it works.

by Atma Brother ONE on Nov 18, 2006 5:38 PM PST reply actions

No TV here
League Pass in Sacto blacked out the GSW game. Or rather, GSW media (FSN?) had it blacked out. League Pass says they don't black out for attendance reasons so it was probably blacked out here because of a 100 mile radius thing.

I never checked League Pass Broadband to see if the game was on the net. I just assumed it wouldn't be.

INJURY REPORT
Warriors:Troy Murphy (left achilles soreness) is day-to-day.
Zarko Cabarkapa (strained lower back), Ike Diogu (sprained left ankle) and Dajuan Wagner are on the inactive list.

SuperSonics: Robert Swift (Torn ACL) is out.

So Zarko still on injury list, this makes it every game so far.

If the Sonics had this game on tv at home, then you would get it with league past. Problem here is the game isn't televised at all. I Can never understand why a team would have their away game televised.

TV
I meant to say"I can never understand why a team wouldn't have their away game televised.

FSN broadcasts
I have HDTV service from Dish and like it mucho but neede Silver service to get the FSN and GSW games.   I should see every game, period.

I also am very disappointed at the low quality of the GSW broadcasts on FSN.  The TNTHD game was a dream and SDTV is good but the GSW broadcasts are often crummy and look terrible on an HD set.

As the grumpy old white guy, David Stern, tightens his grip on the "NBA product", he has failed miserably policing how these games are televised.

FSN HD
You get more for your money with Dish than with Directv or comcast. The only thing that sucks is Dish is the only one who doesn't offer FSN HD. Come on Dish show everyone you're the best and give me my Warrior games in HD. Also why is it that SD tv looks worst on a HD tv than on a SD tv?

its all about the source, baby

HD
I think it's about the money,Dish doesn't want to pay it

by Psion on Nov 18, 2006 7:02 PM PST up reply actions

SD and HD quality
Some sets that do HD very well under perform on SD.  Others sets that have average HD pictures can perform SD better than better HD sets. Go figure. Average isn't bad.

FSN GSW games lag the other SD channels.  They are digital and appear to be highly compressed signals that show artifacts associated with lossy compression.

Panasonic 50" and 42" plasma models scored very well on both HD and SD signals.  I saw the 42" is now 1299 and the 50" is down to ~2300.  These are very good sets for DVD, SD and HD over HDMI, Component and S-Video inputs.

Biedrins
BIEDRINS SHOOTING THE LIGHTS OUT ... STILL: Andris Biedrins is averaging 8.6 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.00 blocks (10th in NBA) in 25.3 minutes per game this season, while shooting 76.2% (32-42 FG) from the field...Biedrins is one made field goal shy of quailfying for the NBA leaders...However, if he did qualify, he would be leading the league by a large margin...As a starter this season, he is averaging 10.0 points (24-31 FG, 77.4 %), 10.2 rebounds and 2.67 blocks in 29.0 minutes (six starts)...In 2005-06, his shooting percentage (.638, 118-185 FG) was tops among all NBA players with 150-or-more shot attempts...In fact, according to Elias Sports Bureau, Andris finished the season with the sixth highest field goal percentage in NBA history among all players who have tried a minimum of 150 shot attempts in a season.

Look for AB to here a great game against the Unsuper Sonic.

agreed
i was really happy when the W's didnt trade biendrins, i thought he had alot of upside and is only 20 i believe.  he hustles, and is athletic, he isnt fouling much and is playing tough.  he may not be lighting up the stats but he is out there givin it his all, i think he will progress throughout the season and ppl will be talking about AB and ellis for most improoved

just my 2 cents

It looks like we will make it 3 games in a row with the same starting line up of Davis,Ellis,JR,Pietrus, and Biedrins.
The Unsuper Sonics starting 5 will be Ridnour,Allen,Lewis,Wilcox, and Petro

W's by 6 sounds just fine
Hope they don't push the pedal too much. Baron needs to get less minutes if possible. I'd like to see Roberson play some minutes this game so Baron can chill a bit, and Barnes too, why not. and maybe even Oldfoyle if it gets lopsided enough
( maybe he can play with a cute little kid on his shoulders?)!! This should be an ideal game for dunleavey to step up his play, whatya think? Let's Dip!!

News of TV access
I just got off the phone with Comcast about my League Pass showing the game on their schedule but no video. (I live in Portland,Oregon) They said that the game is being fed through their system but due to a technical screwup based on someone thinking the game started at 730pm east-coast time instead of west coast time the feed is not working. Bottom line is that due to my call they say they're working on it but cannot gauranntee it'll be fixed. So I say if you have league pass keep checking.

By the way, can anyone in the Bay Area see the game on FSN?

by Spiritof75 on Nov 18, 2006 8:28 PM PST reply actions

No
It's one of those Saturday games that the Warrior's wont show on local tv to get more people in seats.

by myron on Nov 18, 2006 9:08 PM PST reply actions

layups
sounds like we are having trouble finishing near the hoop. 3rd qtr isn't sounding so hot.

by myron on Nov 18, 2006 9:09 PM PST reply actions

AB with 4 fouls
And we don't have any other bigs to play.

I expect Seattle is going to drive to the hoop very easily now for higher % shots.

Well we have them, but the boxscore says
they're not in and Nellie hardly uses Foyle of POB regardless.

Sore ribs...
sounds like a fluke injury.  I would be more worried if it were a hammy or a knee or something.

interesting article
in the Contra Costa Times about why McLeod has been taking over Roberson and Barnes minutes.  I guess its all about the defense.  Nellie does care about our D.

So.. Where's the PHAT recap? Been waiting for that forever now....

by andymonarch on Nov 19, 2006 9:24 AM PST reply actions

Wow
only 7 players played? Outrageous.

I was camping out side Target for a Nintendo Wii last night (YIZZEAH!) so I didn't see the game unfortunately.

From what I see on the box score, McLeod is struggling. No surprise there. He's not ever going to be very good, IMO.

No Webpin for you!
