OPEN THREAD: GAME #11- Warriors vs Suns

Warriors (W-L): 7-3

Suns (W-L): 3-6

Time: 7:30PM PST tip off

For some reason we always show up against high powered teams like the Mavs, so I'm thinking we should beat tonight's opponent, the Suns. However, we need to be cautious because their 3 and 6 record does NOT show how good they truly are. Add in the fact that they've owned us in the last few years and now the slumping Suns are probably counting on beating up the Warriors to get themselves back on track. But, these aren't the Warriors of last year or the year before or the year before or the...you get the idea. This team is on fire right now! And just how hot are the Warriors? As hot as Eva Longoria herself!

A couple of notes: Steve Nash has missed the last couple games and probably won't play so expect a whole lotta Barbosa. Nash's PG counterpart, our beloved Baron Davis, is also probably out after getting hurt against Seattle. Some good news is that TMurph and Big Bad Ike might be back in uniform to help spell AB against Amare and Co. down low.

I'll be at the game! Section 105, Row 9. If anyone else is planning to be there or near that area we should start a GSoM cheering section.

Vegas Odds: Warriors are favored by 3

Predictions: Warriors by 2

  • JRich hits the game winner!
  • Monta explodes for another brilliant performance. 28 points?
  • Amare gets into foul trouble.
  • Defense will start at 9:45pm.
If you're watching or listening near a computer, post any comments you have during the game right here.

Update: Live Box Score from Yahoo!

Update 2: Final Score - Warriors 110, Suns 113

We Got 6 On It!
It's really too bad we don't get to see Baron Davis and Steve Nash tonight, but I think we're all in for a treat- Monta Ellis vs Leandro Barbosa. If you blink you'll miss it. These two guys are super fast.

It's going to be a good game. My biggest worries are Shawn Marion and Amare Stoudemire. Marion always gives the Warriors trouble and he puts the clamps on JRich. Amare, well we've all seen those "highlight" dunks of him throwing it down on Foyle.

It'll be a fun game. Can't wait!

i wouldn't put money on the game tonight...
'cause i have a bad feeling in my gut, and i could never bet against the dubs.  i mean, we might win, no doubt, we're balling like never before, but how long can it go on?  we can't really be good, can we?  are we the chicago cubs of basketball, or the next LA clippers? it's so hard to have faith in the warriors, but i am loving the direction and the spirit.

much props to nellie, but it's gonna take a while for that confidence to come back.  just looking at mightmadskillz' webpin, remembering TimBug running the point, the team fun and on point and winning often enough...i hope those days are here again...

go warriors!

Time Stamps
Yup, they are a little weird on the backend for this site.

Try this:

  • Click "k759's Page" under the Opening Tip
  • Click "My Profile"
  • In the Display Preferences section select Time Zone from the drop down menu. I usually go with [NT] None, but others please chime in if you've had success with a different option.
I don't think this is something we can change globally for everyone. I think it's something everyone has to change for themselves. Sorry about that. An update for the backend system is in the works and hopefully that will make this site flow even more more smoothly in the near future.

Yea ... that was a little joke. I figure the game will end either at 9:45 or 9:46 ... so we might see a minute of defense ...

Seems odd ...
to see the warriors favored over the suns!! Maybe a new era is arrived!!! Should be a close game either way, with or without baron and nash? I wouldn't lay down money on this one. It depends on Amare, probably? is he or is he not totlly healthy??
Don't worry about those lost Sun's fans, they will get cold and unable to move by game time, while they are stuck there be sure and take some compromising photos of sungossip with Dunleavey.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but
we need to wait and see if the Clippers will lose to the Lakers on Tuesday. If so, we still don't get the top spot as we lost to the Lakers, who will have an even record with us by then. Then we hope for a Lakers loss on Friday to the Jazz. So, no division leading thoughts till then.

This game is semi-critical, though. We really need to keep high early in the season if we are to playoff.

Aiight
130-131 Warriors by 1!

Adonal with the winning block on Stoudapooper! (or not. Adonal is not good against the Suns. He's really an emergency play here.)

Man, I don't care is McPoopod is starting, I really hope we continue our win streak.

I can't wait until the day Atma admits that we should not have taken a sip of some Jolt.

It would be really cool to se a rematch of the last Warriors playoffs in Warriors-Suns. I'd prdict it a 3) Warriors and 6) Suns matchup. Everyone in the league would watch, and see us for what we are, and we'll be back on the map and owning into the second round.

Then, hopefully in the second round or the conference finals, we meet the Hornets. Cheering the Warriors on in the 'offs is my dream, tand this year may be a once in 10 years opporunity to fill it.

But moreso a Warriors-Suns matchup seems own, and just what we need no matter what the seed!

As for me, I really like what he brings to the team off the bench: hustle, rebounds, and occasional scoring. He's not a great player but he definitely can contribute to the team and play his role.

argh
Well no BD and Monta got hurt at the end.  They put up a good fight.  Who knows what might have happened if Monta was still in the game.  Ahh tough one to lose.

Man
It's painful watching JRich struggle out there. He's not 100%. Last year he woulda hit that shot and sent the game into overtime. Just wait...

Just got home from the game.
I was saying just beofore the play I hope they don;t go to JRich. Because his legs arent there and he just cant seem to get anything going in second halfs right now. Really wanted them to go to Pietrus. Who has a nack for threes. But oh well. Was a great game to be at. Still gotta be proud of the effort without there MVP this year so far.

i'm glad they went to j-rich
he's gotta get back in the saddle.  best case scenario, he misses some shots now and is ready for game-winners in the playoffs.

Damn good showing
against an experienced playoff team!  With Baron we'd have probably won. Next time if BDizzle and JRich are well it might be different but then again Amare and Diaw are not up to speed yet so it might be the same :>)

Just a cramp
I'm just happy Ellis had a cramp and nothing more serious. I originally thought it was the knee.  I've seen enough times where a player lands funny and tears his ACL.  Tough loss, but great game.  The team is playing great ball. A good coach really makes a huge difference.

still can't finish games
this was a game the warriors should have won. the suns looked calm coming down the stretch acting like they had done it before. the warriors looked nervous like they were trying not to lose instead of trying to win. the suns hit some big shots, but that's because every single three at the end was uncontested. then coming back on the other end, the warriors just couldn't score to keep up. in the final minutes, bad defense + an inability to score = loss.

Damn
tough loss.

Suns Gossip gets the last laugh on YaoButta and GSoM.

Nash's clutch 3 at the end there, right in front of the Warriors bench, did ANYONE call out to Pietrus something like I dunno, "SCREEN LEFT!"

But we had our chance at the buzzer, along with all those other 3's taken near the end of the game in haste- Roberson, Pietrus, Dun.

Just got home from the game...
We coulda won this game but the refs wanted the Suns to win much more than the Warriors.  You can tell that the whistles were blowing a whole lot on one side of the court and was swallowed on the other.  Sure they called a bunch of charges for Dun... but there was a bunch of missed calls and the PHANTOM FOUL ON BARBOSA!!! That was a whole screwjob by the refs.  Sure we coulda done things a little different (like started Roberson over McLeod... IMO) but a loss is a loss... great game!

PHANTOM FOUL ON BARBOSA!!!
Seriously! Fantasy Junkie and I were watching at home and were cracking up. That was such a terrible call!

Oh well the Warriors had a big lead and played to lose at the end. They shoulda had this one.

got home from the game
Yea that was a botched call on J-rich's foul on Barbosa, but if i remember he missed both ft's anyway and we made a 3 after. I thought Monta was fouled on the next drive down, and Biedrins' charge on his dunk was a botched call. Also you can't underestimate the value of Nash. The Suns would not have gotten all those open looks at 3 point attempts if he wasn't in there. No Baron, plus MVP nash made the difference in this game. they were the more experienced team, but next time things might be different. It was an exciting game to go to. also: has thunder been at all the home games this year?

No worries
I'm new here, just had to register because of Monta's performance tonight. Monta was running all over the place. That fast break dunk was phenominal, I jumped out of my seat in a snap. Only if Monta was as skilled as BDiddy, (I observed that he doesn't quickly pass the ball and hesistates around the perimeter) that would be great.

Overall, even though they lost, I feel like they're progressing really quickly. If they can keep up with the Suns without BDiddy and JRich around 50-75%, that's saying something. They got some potential. I mean, even keeping BDiddy and JRich out of the picture, I know the team has room to grow. I was expecting them to improve around mid-dec like my friend predicted, but they improved waayy quicker than that. I have yet to see Ike play, I'm hoping he can keep up with the tempo.

But yeah, what a great game, my friend has ellis and biedrins on his fantasy team, and wow, great choices. Can't wait till Wednesday.

Go warriors.

2-3 Zone
You can't play a 2-3 zone against a team like the Suns.  They have way too many 3 point shooters, and the one thing you give up in a 2-3 zone are outside shots.  Bell and Barbosa are zone busters, and Nash and James Jones are capable too.  10 for 18 by Bell and Barbosa from deep is ridiculous.

ugly game without Baron
Last night reminded me of how much better we are as a team with Baron on the floor. I think that is the first game this year that we have had more TOs than Assists. The Suns were almost 2:1. I think that was the biggest difference in the game as well as missed FTs.
