GSoM Q&A with Tim Kawakami 11/15/06 (Part 5 of 5)

Golden State of Mind friend Tim Kawakami did another great Q&A with us the other week. It's fun to talk Warriors and Bay Area sports with Tim because he always has a fresh, witty perspective. Make sure to make Tim's blog Talking Points with Tim Kawakami a daily stop. Also, make sure to check out his work in the San Jose Mercury. Tim's always got the latest scoop on the Bay Area sports scene and some great insights. Warriors Nation is lucky to have Tim covering the Warriors.

Here's the final episode of our Q&A...

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Golden State of Mind: The Boston Celtics, Charlotte Bobcats, Memphis Grizzlies, New York Knicks, Toronto Raptors, Minnesota Timberwolves, Phoenix Suns and Seattle SuperSonics are all struggling in the early going. Have you heard about any deals that these clubs or other NBA teams are looking to make? Who's being shopped?

Tim Kawakami: Truth is, I doubt any major trade talks will happen until January at the earliest. I think the bad teams are going to see about their coaches before major roster changes. Minnesota, Boston, Memphis and Charlotte all have coach-issues. That will hold back Garnett, Pierce, Miller and others from the market, until a coaching decision is made and the future gets clearer.

Plus we have to see how the injuries shake out: Denver might've been OK before Kenyon went down, and now... totally different situation there. We'll have to see if Maggette fully embraces the sixth man thing. If Amare Stoudemire gets all the way back. If Seattle keeps playing decent ball... all those things are impossible to calibrate until we hit mid-January. Once we get there, all hell usually breaks loose.

Timmy
I love Tim.  Great writer.  You guys should keep getting more interviews.  Gives great insight to the Warriors in every aspect...except trade rumors, whenever he predicts it, put your frog skins on it not happening.

Dunleavy... he's the key?
"Dunleavy... he's the key to so many things for right now... He can look awful and get booed. And he can do the little things hoops mavens love-bring it up, make the good entry pass, move without the ball... And since Nelson was brought here in large part to lift up Dunleavy, if Dunleavy plays cohesive, solid basketball, it's a bright sign for the rest of the team"
   Interesting that part about Dun being the main reason Nellie was brought here? Isn't that the tail wagging the dog in the worst way? I assumed Nellie was here to build a winning team, not to make Junior look good! Or is this Kawakami guy just kissin some mullin ass? I can't get too enthusiastic about a sports analyst who thinks a middlin skilled player is the key to anything.
