Game #23: Warriors vs. Rockets

Warriors (W-L): 11-11
Rockets (W-L): 14-7
Time: 7:30PM PST
TV: FSN+
Radio: KNBR 1050

We all know what happened last game against the Rockets. They barely won the game on a last second 28 point shot, 118-90. But TMac won't be around this game as he's out indefinitely with a bad back. Things should be a little easier than last time meaning the Warriors should be close. But alas, the Great Wall of Yao will still be down low with his big 7'4" frame. Hopefully this game the Warriors can hold him to less than 20 points...in the first half. Biedrins?

Hopefully we keep up the hot shooting and style of play that we were able to resurrect against the Kings. Houston is one of the best defensive teams in the league though, so it'll be really difficult to break 100. The Warriors are playing better than the last time the two teams met, so I expect big things.

But more important than the game, today marks a momentous occasion in Golden State Warriors basketball, it's the inaugural Warrior Girls Calendar Release Party!

Vegas Odds: Warriors by 5

Predictions:

  • Warriors win by 3 after Yao leaves the court in the 4th to get his Warrior Girls Calendar autographed.
  • Bonzi remains fat.
  • There are "only" 10 more AI rumors during the game.

Make sure to give us your predictions in the comments before tip off and post any comments you have during the game right here.

Remember to vote for the winner.

Look for Monta to top Nate Robinson's swat on Yao Ming!

What are the chances
that Foyle starts on Yao, since he seemed to actually do something to slow him down last game?

I'd say the chance of him playing is 99%

by racsan on Dec 14, 2006 3:18 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

YES
START FOYLE!

SHUT YAO DOWN!

why not
i say give him a chance to throw some elbows in yao's gut, soften him up for the run-and-gun...

Prediction
Sharks over the Kings by 3 - oops wrong sport.

Warriors by 13, after Foyle shuts down Yao by holding him to 30 points.

by racsan on Dec 14, 2006 3:48 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I think we can win this one
No McGrady, we just have to play like we did the other night. Run them out of the gym. Double Yao, and get out on the 3 point shooters. I say Warriors by 7

by tadams1080 on Dec 14, 2006 4:53 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Warriors by 5?
That's pretty good odds considering how bad they beat us before? If McGrady's replacement is half as good as T-mac they should still win by 15?
I'm expecting Houston to win the NBA champsionship so if we can play with them we might make the 2nd round(assuming we make the first round!)

by Skeptic con Urquell on Dec 14, 2006 5:32 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Yahoo sports NBA
Standings thingy says the Warriors are in the 8th spot in the playoffs (if the season ended today), but it also says teams like Orlando have already clinched their playoff spots with only 20 odd games played!

Prediction:

-Yao helps my fantasy league squad by racking up at least a 20-10 while making all his FT's

-Baron plays up to par and doesn't disappear like he did in the game in Houston, getting something around 20-7-5 but no triple double again

-Foyle goes perfect from the field like Biedrins and Don Nelson still takes him out after Foyle is 3-3 on field goals

-FSN+ forces us without Marbury's quoted NBA "LEEG Pass" to watch a boring TNT game tonight between San Anton and New Orleans

-Warriors by 3, 110-107

Foyle?
haha he's not stopping Yao =)
But if they double him the warriors could win. They lost the other night and didn't look too good. It will be interesting to see if Bonzi plays that much. Depending who Battier is defending, Barnes could have another good game

Um, idiot?
From Wikipedia's entry on the Golden State Warriors:
and Adonal Foyle, one of the greatest shot blockers to every play the game.

What they'll add to that after this game is one of the best YAOSHUTDOWNERS!

Someone needs to edit that Zorgon
Not the every game thing of course, but the name.

Never forget the FOYAL, like Antawn Jamison, he left it since it looks original- but is really pronounced Antwan.

Idiocy by our GSoM crew?!

Chill with the insult Zorg, we're all in this boat together as the wiki page links back here at the end and "there'll be no gas!"

Idiocy by our GSoM crew?!

I think I'm missing something. What are you referring to back2back51s?

by Atma Brother ONE on Dec 14, 2006 7:30 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Zorgon called Yao butta an
idiot, albeit in his joking Foyle mantra forever manner.

by back2back51s on Dec 14, 2006 7:33 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Lol
I was just playing. Since YaoButtaMings favourite player is Yao, I figured this could be our rivalry game. Who will have the better night, Foyle or Yao?

(Unfortunately, he leads 1-0)

Also
We'll see if we can bring back the GSoM NFL segment for the NFL playoffs. It was a lot of fun and really popular, but we just ran out of time every weekend.

by Atma Brother ONE on Dec 14, 2006 8:55 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Someone explain to me now
Why Foyle's been out there so much more than Biedrins? Dude's consistently a disaster on offense and he sure as hell doesn't look to be slowing Ming down any, at least from my limited view that is the halftime box score.

by jonathan on Dec 14, 2006 8:42 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

good game
Ive noticed that Monta is trying to do the i'm-gonna-do-a-crazy-juke-move-while-running-at-top-speed quite often. Maybe he is trying to be more of a distributor? Thats good that hes learning but hes picking up an awful amount of offensive fouls and turnovers playing like this. Usually when he does his crazy spin moves and what not, i think he should just look to finish.

by ZombieWarrior on Dec 14, 2006 8:42 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

whoops, i dont think i made it clear
that he tries to freeze his opponent with a crazy move which usually leaves him open but lately he has been passing up the rock alot in these situations

At the Half Warriors 52, Rockets 50
Baron's RED HOT- 20 points!

Can someone cop me one of those for xmas?

Or maybe we can have a GSoM contest to win one?

by ssmokinjoe on Dec 14, 2006 8:59 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Uh, Guys
Specifically Johnathan

Foyle HAS consistently slowed down Yao Ming. He's gotten several swats. He is basically shutting him down, and when Yao does score on Foyle, it's only because Foyle doesn't want to get into fould trouble. Yao did score a lot when BIEDRINS was on the floor. But with Foyle? A lot less. Yes, even the commentators are acknowleding it. This is not "Oh Zorgon's spewing a lot of FOYAL all over the floor again." It's serious.

The offense was basically at the beginning when we were getting shut down, and so Foyle shot a couple and missed. (Ellis and Barnes weren't making at the time either.)

by Zorgon on Dec 14, 2006 8:55 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

And also
when Yao does that dumb Tim Duncanish turn around thingy that's impossible to block.

by Zorgon on Dec 14, 2006 8:57 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Or
when Yao beats him in a fast break. :/

by Zorgon on Dec 14, 2006 8:57 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Foyle
To his credit he's definitely stronger than Biedrins and he has more experience against Yao.

Re; I HATE THAT DANG PROBABLITY THING
Me too & I'm a numbers guy! The thing that killed me about it was during halftime Glenn Kiper used the example, "If the Rockets were to go on a 10-0 run, then that would change the probability...."  & what do they do?  GO ON A f'in 13-0 run!
