Rumor: Warriors Could Be in on Multiteam Allen Iverson Trade

This morning is shockingly slow for Allen Iverson to the Warriors rumors, but here's a tidbit from ESPN.com's Marc Stein:

Sacramento and Golden State, as covered in Tuesday's opus about no-trade clauses, were informed recently that Iverson doesn't want to play in Northern California any more than he wants to play in North Carolina for the Bobcats. It's not inconceivable, though, that the Kings or Warriors could participate in a multiteam trade that lands Iverson somewhere else.

If the Warriors did get involved in a multiteam trade, I would expect them to be actively looking to move Troy Murphy. He's a solid pro, but a poor fit for Nellie's system. I'll leave it to GSoM friend Tim Kawakami to break this one down. Check out his piece Pssst: Warriors are 5-0 without Murphy (and 7-11 with him).

I'm sure there will be more on the AI trade dealings, so stay tuned.

Yeah. I gotta go with Tim on this one.
He's a great player, he's just not needed for what Nellie is doing, not only that, but the rumblings that people actually want him, and that lumpy contract. Sheeesh. Be up out dawgie.

If you take a look out of your windows, you can now see Dallas, TX. Quite the site, no?

moving murph
tim is mean.  in murph's defense, he has an excellent 3 point shot which when bargnani or nowitski do it at the PF position, they are super-valuable.  of course, if moving murph gives us a ben gordon-type or even an enforcer like tyrus thomas from the bulls, that would be severely welcomed.

Sorry but Tim's right on this one.
The reason why Nowitzki is valuable is not because he's got a 3 point shot at the 4 position, but because for a 7 footer, he has the speed and quickness of a 6'8 athletic SF.  You put a PF on him and he'll beat him to spots with his quickness and midrange game.  Put a small athletic guy on him, and he'll just shoot over the top.  Murphy is more akin to a smaller version of Raef Lafrentz.  Barghnani is supposed to be like nowitzki(i haven't seen him play though).

Simply put, Murphy just doesn't fit in Nellie ball.  In an uptempo game, you need at the very least eithe quickness or good end to end speed, and Murphy has neither. He doesn't get up and down the floor fast enough nor consistently enouch to spot up for a quick transition jumper or trail to finish breaks.    Murphy's ideal role would be to be playing next to a dominant low post player in a slow paced low post offense.

Yup
Murphy is one of the guys that proves stats aren't everything.  Usually only like six guys in the league average a double double in points in rebounds per season...but basically all of them that have done it over the past few years had more of a positive impact on their team than Murphy (other than maybe Dampier or Kurt Thomas).  He seems like an okay guy and all, but if the Warriors can get someone to take his contract and get something in return, they gotta jump all over that.

It's not inconceivable ...
that one of you would succeed Mullin as GM either ... this is the kind of "rumor" that is less than meaningless in that is says nothing and simply fans the flames of conjecture ...

Murphy's value is not merely double-doubles, which seem poo-poo'd above, but that he is the only other big we have to play along with Beedy. Overpaid? yea, but not on the scale of Foyle or Dunleavy considering contributions and team needs. We need productive bigs, or to unload bad contracts. We do not need to unload Murphy unless we get a productive big to replace him

Yes I poo-poo'd
If he is so valuable as a complement to Biedrins, why have the Warriors, as Tim pointed out, won the games when only Biedrins played?  I'm sure they would love to get rid of Dunleavy's or Foyle's contract, but since no one wants them, Murphy is going to keep showing up in these rumors.

opposition & injuries
I haven't broken down the W-L on Murphy (and neither did TK) by opponent, but my guess it's not unrelated to opponent strength and our injuries/matchups ... I agree that Murphy is the most trade-able of the big contracts, including Baron's, but we ought not unload him without bolstering the front line ...

I agree.
We are set at the guard position...we have 3 capable SF's..what we need is a quick defensive 4..that's why to pull off a good murph deal we would need a 3rd team to give us that guy..and i dont think the bulls would unload tyrus thomas..plus they'd have to give more for the salaries to be close enough.

Quit Begging
Quit begging, Warrior fans. AI is not interested in coming here, so move on.

We have BD and Monta, who are playing better than AI anyway, and have a better attitude.

Let AI take his broken-down, over-hypped game somewhere else.

Peace.

stats aren't everything
2 of the L's TK includes were to Pho & Den - by a total of 6 pts

another was the L to Seattle that was inexcuseable and should have been a W

TM played 42 min vs Dallas and scored 20pt .. same vs Mil (somebody please explain how the L to Mil is TM's fault)

and his splits show in Wins he plays an avg 33 min, and L's 25 min meaning maybe he should play more ...

I'm no stat meister but I know you can use stats to prove just about what ever you want if you turn them just so ...

I'd bet TM's "W-L" would balance out over a longer stretch, and I've not heard Nellie complain about his play ...

and, no - even though it looks like it from this post, TM's not my brother!
