Rumor: Warriors Not Interested in Allen Iverson Anymore

One of our sources just told us that despite reports that the Warriors are still in the running for Allen Iverson, they are actually not trying to swing a deal for him anymore. Also, the 76ers are working on a three or four team trade to net them immediate cap relief and draft picks. The Sixers aren't interested in young players in the league, but instead are trying to collect more draft picks to select prospects like Greg Oden or Kevin Durant in the much-hyped 2007 NBA Draft.

Hey, it's all good as long as they don't mess with The Movement!

Also, Stephen A. Smith's Croce weighs in: Exiling Iverson before trading him is just wrong is definitely worth a read. The 76ers organization deserves a lot of censure for the way they've handled the Allen Iverson trade talks. This guy has been their franchise for the past decade, but they've sent him home and cleaned out his locker? That's just disrespectful and stupid negotiation-wise.

The saga:

99% of rumors never happen, but 99% of them are fun to talk about!

Croce's not an objective observer
... and it does make some sense for Philly to "exile" him if they are sure they are moving him:
  1. for the sake of the rest of the locker room
  2. to lose as many games as possible
Seriously, if your post is accurate (a fair question re any AI stories over the wires these days!) and the analysis by Stein (cited earlier) is even close, the 76ers are tanking and stockpiling for the draft. There's no reason to have AI there and every reason to keep him out ... as far as disrespect, it's safe to say there's been some of that going both directions over the years in Philly ...

Interesting that Philly is reportedly not interested in young talent ... and, guess it's safe to kiss our conditional #1 pick from the Dampier trade away now ...

What's our draft status this year?
How many 1st and 2nd round picks do we have? Conditional pick?

Dampier trade
included a 1st Rd pick that was "protected" such that if it was top 10, or top 15 (I forget now) GS would get $1m rather than the pick. Through some Dallas transaction, it ended up being Philly's pick for this year and well, it's all probably moot at this point in time ...

I hate Stephen A. Smith.
The guy acts like his opinion is fact.

If you take a look out of your windows, you can now see Dallas, TX. Quite the site, no?

Smith & Rome
I'd pay to have those two in a room together, and to have the key to lock the door ...

I was watching one of those ESPN shows
where they interviewed marc stein about iverson. and he reported that iverson has said that he will not go to Golden State. well if he doesnt want to come here, we dont want him here.

You are absolutely correct, this is a great trade!

But if Iverson doesn't want to come to Oakland, then its all for not.

last summer
GSoM spun out on that rumor too, not as bad as AI, but ...

Haha
Come on now! Don't you love the rumors?

If I remember correctly we've actually never heard anything directly about a Maggette to the Warriors trade. It's mostly been other people or speculation that we've linked to.

The Clips would be absolutely nuts to trade Maggette for Dunleavy, but hey you never know.

"to trade Maggette for Dunleavy, but hey you never know"
Come on Atma, You know they hafta be nuts to live in LA, but maybe we can sweeten the pot a bit? Offer to send them Monta and B'Dris along with DunDone for Magette and Elton Brand.

by Skeptic con Urquell on Dec 16, 2006 9:56 PM PST to parent up   0 recs

Haha
Monta + Biedrins + Dunleavy for Brand + Maggette

Good lord that would be crazy! There's no way the Clips would ever do that.
