Rumor: Warriors, Celtics, and Pacers in the Mix for Allen Iverson

Check out this tidbit from the Seattle Times NBA Notebook today:

The New York Daily News reported the Knicks were expected to make a bid for Iverson, but a source close to the 76ers classified the Knicks as a longshot. Boston, Indiana and Golden State have emerged as candidates to acquire Iverson, who has three years and $60 million remaining on his contract. Denver and Minnesota are other possible suitors.

It's a little fuzzy from the way that was phrased- does "emerged as candidates" simply mean these three squads were contacted by the Sixers (we were informed that the Warriors, Sonics, and Nuggets were contacted too) or does this mean the interest is mutual?

Regardless of what goes down with Iverson on the trading front, one thing that should bring a smile to Warriors Nation is AI and KG probably won't be teamed up together thanks to TWolves owner Glenn Taylor declaring that they can't afford Iverson. This means two things:

There won't be another guaranteed playoff team in the West to kill the Dubs' dreams of ending that 12 year playoff drought this season.
There's still some hope that the Warriors can bring KG to the Bay. (Although, this is one of those "never in a million years" scenarios)

This should also bring Kevin Garnett into a serious state of rage especially after he said this:

Garnett wants him, too. He and Iverson both have been NBA MVPs, but neither has won a title. With Minnesota considered one of the teams that is capable of making a run at Iverson, Garnett hopes his team will go for it. "Bring it on, I love 'The Answer,'" Garnett said. "We welcome A.I. with open arms. Where's Kevin McHale?"

We'll just have to wait and see where The Answer goes.

For an internet news clip or rumor. LOL. In all fairness, as long as he doesn't come to the West, I'll be OK with it, we got a potential squad. Best case, we get him, worst, a rival does.

best case?

Not sure that getting Iverson is best case. Considering how many shots he misses, someone needs to rebound the ball. Philly can't win with him now because they're getting killed on the glass. In this regard, we'd do even worse.

Iverson's fun to watch when he plays your team because he's exciting, but he doesn't really seem to impact wins for his team. Great guy to see when he comes to town. You can watch him go off for 40 but still walk away watching your team beat him.

i just read

that the nugs want no part of AI and the sixers are very rluctant to deal with boston to to the same division. I also read somewhere else that the wolves don't have the necesary peices to get him. that leaves us and the sonics.

That story

is fun to read but the guy is a hack. He lists Indiana as a potential landing spot, and then he lumps them in later on in the article with the also-rans. And calling Rondo and Green untouchables makes me think he is a little prone to hyperbole.

I think they are trying to get him [Allen Iverson] because Mullin and Rod are not making themselves available to the media. The question is do they want to give up their youngsters for an aging scorer? Because Philly doesn't want big salaries in return

We've heard that Mullin and Higgins have been unavailable from another insider as well.

What does this all mean? Who knows, but it sure is entertaining.

Baron, J-Rich, Ellis, and Beans and let everyone else be fair game... wait a minute? That won't obviously be enough! Oh well... I guess if the Sixers are really desperate they'll take Foyle (or Murphy... for Zorgon's sake) along with the 1 year contracts for Iverson... otherwise I wouldn't want him... then I'd turn around and trade Iverson for someone we could really use (I'm sure Boston and Indy was offering something decent) Oh well... A guy can dream right...
