Around SBN: Steve McNair Found Shot to Death

Recap: Warriors 98, Wizards 116

Tonight the old Warriors beat up on the young Warriors. With Gilbert Arenas and Antwan Jameson coming back into town, they showed the fans who loved them and still do, why it was a mistake to lose both of them. Granted we really had no control over the loss of Gilbert Arenas, it still kills me to think that this guy was once a Warrior and now just another star who posted a 40pt night on us.

Tonight Gilbert poured in 40 points and Jameson added 31 for the Wizards who took control of the Warriors the whole game. With that Gilbert had 10 assists and Jameson grabbed 14 boards. This was too much for the Warriors to handle even with Fisher guarding Arenas. Hold up; if you didn't pick up on my sarcasm let me rephrase that. This was too much for the Warriors to handle, even with FISHER GUARDING Arenas. I might be the only one here confused as to why we have Fisher guarding the opponent's best players? Please don't tell me he was better then Pietrus on D?!?

The only bright spot for the Warriors tonight was the stat line for Fisher: 16 points, 10 assists, and shooting 4 for 7 behind the arc. Other then that I really can't think of a single other bright spot. Oh wait, Monta did hit all of his free throws. Yea that's something positive! All four of them! Oh and here's another really positive outlook, I did some research and found that we are in an elite group of NBA teams for the worst free throw percentage. We rank 26th in the league, ahead of the Spurs and Heat. So that's pretty cool. You know because we sit near the Spurs and Heat. I mean come on. That's not all that bad right? Um because they are making the playoffs, so theoretically we should to? We shot 38% at the line tonight.

Warrior Wonder: How about the fans on this site? How about the fans who pay to go to the games? Those are my Warrior Wonders for enduring another season of disappointment. Let's hope Baron comes back soon and Dunleavy keeps up his improved play. I call Dunleavy scoring 30+ next game! You heard it here first folks!

The Arenas Myth
The Warriors could have kept him, but cheap management didn't want to go over the cap. Arenas actually wanted to stay with his 2002 draft class buddies JRich and Murphy.

When you're selling out like the Warriors do, there's no reason why this team can't make a huge profit and pay the luxury tax. Rumor is Cohan wouldn't even look Arenas in the eye and promise he'd take care of him if he got injured.

Cough up another loss to the clowns.

Ignore what Fitz says during the telecast
I like Fitz, but he needs to quit perpetuating the Arenas myth during broadcasts. I know he doesn't want to bite the hand that feeds him, but he doesn't need to keep covering up for Cohan and Rowell.

J-Rich being the franchise
At least in terms of unofficial tags right?

Arenas probably was pissed upon seeing Dunleavy, Murph, FOYLE(!), and bringing in Fish to "break the bank" so to speak, or he might have been living it up down in DC with Larry "misses every dunk in the Oakland Arena 2000 Vince classic dunk contest, so the Warriors sign him!" Hughes and not looking back.

I know they aren't all getting over $10 mil a year or anything like that, but Gilbert could have gotten some credit for growing with Jason those first couple years.

Still remember him jumping up and down behind Craig Sager or whoever it was interviewing J-Rich after winning his first dunk contest saying "GOLDEN STATE, GOLDEN STATE!"

Jamison probably will never score 51 again. Even when he comes to Oakland. But that draft day trade was too good to pass up!

Funny NBA Book
I just read a really funny book called "Foul Lines," by SI hoops writers Jack McCallum and Jon Wertheimer, and I thought my fellow Warriors fans would enjoy it. It's a great satire of the NBA today, with the names changed to protect identities (but it's very easy to figure out who is who). Everyone gets mocked, from rich owners in the mold of Mark Cuban and the Maloofs to the flamboyant GMs to players like Jason Williams, LeBron, A.C. Green, Doug Christie and others. Wertheim and McCallum also have some funny scenes spoofing David Stern's obsession with globalization, Stuart Scott's fake-gangsta persona, and Master P's attempts to cut it in the NBA. It's a quick read with an enjoyable plot and solid characters. Here's the amazon link with some reviews if you want to check it out:

Trust me
You don't want the Dunleavy poster after Hash did his thing (see the last part of the Warrior Wonder).
