Rumor: Allen Iverson to the Warriors

From Adam Stanco of Collegehoops.net:

Allen Iverson could be traded so the Sixers can acquire another lottery pick. My sources say the Sixers are heavily involved in Iverson trade talks with the Warriors and the Hawks. The deal would almost certainly consist of the lottery pick owned by the Warriors (No. 9) or Hawks (No. 5) and another emerging starter. If the trade is made, the Sixers probably won't give up their lottery pick (No. 13) and it probably won't happen prior to the draft. That's because Philly needs to re-examine who they will workout in the next few days.

Is AI the answer for the Warriors' 12 year playoff drought?

Iverson is a top 10 player and a mega-star. Teammates love him. Hip Hop fans love him. Ladies love him. Damn, I love him! Yo, Chris and Rod make it happen!

99% of rumors never happen, but 99% of them are fun to talk about.

Do you want the Warriors to trade for superstar Allen Iverson?

Hells ya
Now I have something new to pray for!

I'd give up pretty much anyone on the team for AI.  Let me correct that, I would give up anyone on the team.  I love JRich, and he's the only one who it would be a tough decision for, but AI is more clutch, a better FT shooter, and wreaks havok on a defense.  I'm not sure he could co-exist with Baron under a coach like Monty though.  Throw Monty in the trade too.

What would the trade be?
I'd love to get AI. But I can't see the Sixers taking the #9 pick and any of our players except for JRich or Baron for AI. AI for the #9 and Baron/JRich. Is it worth it? Probably.

Do the Sixers want Murphy? They already have a PF who can't play D. Do the Sixers want Pietrus or MD? They already have Iggy. Do the Sixers want Biedrins? They already have Dalembert. The only player other than Baron and JRich that could go is Ike + some other pieces and there's always that contract matching thing.

Seems like if this deal goes down, it would be AI for #9 and Baron.

BUT I think the Hawks have more to offer with their plethora of shooting guards and small forwards. If they trade AI, they'll want a shooting guard in return.

Honestly
I don't think either is happening. The Sixers would be crazy to trade AI unless he wanted out. They aren't going to get fair value and he's a box office hit. Maybe ticket sales have slowed in Philly, but he's still a national superstar. He's the reason that they're on TNT and ESPN even though they suck.

I love Baron, but he's not in AI's league. Baron even admitted that a few years back when the Hornets faced the 76ers in the first round of the Eastern playoffs a few years back.

I'd be very wary to get AI
Guys who rely a lot on their speed, like Iverson, tend to lose their speed, and conversely most of their value, as they slow down during their 30's. Couple that with his massive salary and a team that already features noted ball needers Baron Davis and Jason Richardson, and you've got sort of a sticky situation on your hands. Plus I doubt Monty could handle all that ego on one team.

That said, however, he certainly would be an interesting piece in giving the team a 1 or 2 year, if not extended, run at the playoffs and perhaps even NBA title contention, so if it were like Dunleavy/Murphy/Pietrus/pick type stuff we're giving up, I'm definitely for it. I just wouldnt want to part with someone like Ellis or Diogu or Biedrins.

AI for Baron, straight up
The salaries seem to work on the ESPN trade machine, although I think you'd see some additional guys tossed into the trade.

Would a trade for Iverson make it more likely for the Warriors to throw Monty over the side and reach out to Larry Brown?  For all their supposed acrimony about "Practice", Iverson and Brown always talk each other up publicly.  I'd much rather have AI/Brown than Baron/Monty - we win on both ends.

Here's  my nomination for most lopsided AI trade.

Still annoyed that we drafted Tod Fuller

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!
We don't want an aging Iverson on this team for anything OTHER than teagle's trade proposal.  I would not give up ANYONE on the team for AI, but I'd give up a number of players (Foyle, Zarko, Mike D, Murph...Baron....).

Aging Iverson
That aging Iverson just dropped back to back seasons of 30+ppg and 7.3+ dimes per game with 2 thefts. There's NO ONE on the Warriors roster who can even approach that. There's not many people in the league even capable of that.

Three Way Trade with Chicago
We get Allen Iverson and Tyson Chandler.

Chicago gets the #9 pick and Troy Murphy

Philly gets Baron Davis and the #16 pick.

We now have a playoff roster

Chicago now has #2, #9 and a PF in Troy Murphy

Philly has an all-star to replace AI, and the #16 pick to go with the #13 pick to move up in the draft.

What are you guys talking about??
First of all, the 76ers are looking for expiring contracts or people who are emerging stars. Their trying to rebuild around the other AI (andre iguodala) and are looking for any team that would take AI with a lottery pick. I'm not saying that the Warriors will get him but im almost sure he will get traded whether its to ATL or GS or anywhere else.

This is something as Golden State fans that we would all wish for.

Young Murphy and Dunleavy and the 9th pick and next years 1st pick for A.I. That is only because to match AI you would need to add both. And what can you do with another PG/SG? Make J Rich play the 3 and all our problems will be figured out!
