NBA Draft 2006: Kosta Perovic hype

The hype (or what you might call anti-hype) about Kosta Perovic is quite varied.  Once considered a potential lottery bound pick in the 2004 draft, the draft that landed Biedrins into the bay area, Kosta has significantly dropped off the radar where the fanfare went from relative obscurity but curiosity to well... just about absolute obscurity as he's been exiled to Golden State.  I've told this story a dozen times and recently to Atma, but people on the east coast don't know who the Golden State Warriors are.

During the initial phase of the throwback craze of the 2003, I went to visit a friend in Philly.  On every corner was a sports store selling all sorts of throwback gear.  I happened to be wearing my "the city" shirt in one of em and the sales attendant--who was decked out in some 76ers throwback gear--said he liked the design and the colors.  I told him it was a Golden State Warriors shirt and he replied "What?" I said it was an NBA team and he said "Where?" 12 years of being in the Lottery will do that to ya...

Anyway, the scouting reports of Kosta are relatively similar and all the comparisons are, of course, of European players.

Draftexpress thinks Kosta is just Rasho at best, Tsakalidis at worst.  Oh ya, plus he's got soft hands!

The Next Z???
Is anyone else as pissed as I am about this pick of Kosta Perovic? Im not sure how a seven footer who cant score or play D is going to help anyone, but than again, I dont run an NBA team so what do I know. My guess is that this guy never even suits up for the Warriors. Passing up on Leon Powe in the second round is unforgivable...Mullin should be ashamed of himself.

12...going on 13.

Agree & Disagree
I have no idea why Mullin would pick this stiff in the 2nd round after taking O'Bryant in the first.  The only think I can hope is that he picked him and will trade his rights after July 1.  I'm pretty tired of everyone saying they wanted Powe though.  He will be out of the league in 2-3 years.  The guy played tough at Cal, but there is no way a 6'6 guy who can't shoot from more than 7' from the basket is going to make it in the NBA.  Add in two bad knees and I just can't see it happening.  I hope I'm wrong, because he seems like a nice kid from the few times I've heard him interviewed, but I don't want him on my team.

imagine...
but imagine the possibilities of saying "Kosta coast!" if he takes in down full court for the jam!

jk.

Yea, W's shoulda taken the tip from their own history that lottery a lot of times is hype and timing.  Chris Porter, after his first season in college, was considered a lock for the lottery.  In a year, he dropped like asses to reggaeton and was exposed as not a legitimate player.

Warriors need to stop stockpiling on bigs.  You'd think it was Costco up in that piece!  Instead of going for name brands, their getting Kirkland style quality.

Don't be dissin Kirkland, yo!
Ha ha ha, seriously, this isn't Kirkland-style drafting, it's more along the lines of the Safeway Selects house brand.

Safeway Select & Kirkland
If grocery shopping had a salary cap, Safeway Select and Kirkland would be on every team. Low price but decent. It may not be brand name, but you get decent quality.

You insult Safeway Select by comparing Kosta to them. He's more like Tang compared to fresh squeezed OJ, cheap and nasty.

Straight up
If it wasn't for Kirkland Signature I don't know I'd be able to afford some of the finer things in life... like toilet paper!

Lady Lee
Fine, these bigs are obscure like Lady Lee brand (that's old school Lucky's brand)!  But you're right, we'd be gettin' that at good prices then.  Perhaps financially, we should compare them to midwest Chinese food.  8-9$ dishes that make those .99 Chinese places look like gourmet.

Oh sssssshhhheeet!
You didn't just drop a Lady Lee reference in this?  LOL!

Anyone remember those Safeway brand generic sodas called Cragmont?  They had their Dr. Pepper ripoff, but they called it "The Skipper".  Damn, that's back in the 80s at least.
