Rumor: Warriors in the Mix for Allen Iverson

Those who have hoped for, wished for, dreamed for this day, pay heed: Your moment is coming, and soon. AI is on his way out. You will have to find someone else to blame.
The Sixers, clearly, are doing much more than just blithely chatting with their league brethren; they are actively trying to divest themselves of their franchise player. They have made their choice (or their choice was made for them, as there is next to no interest in taking on the $43 million remaining on Chris Webber's contract). And it's just a matter of time before they find an Iverson deal that's to their liking.

It might be with Memphis, or Golden State, or Denver.

But Iverson won't be in Philadelphia much longer.

Gotta give it up for AI!

DA's a well respected NBA journalist. I know there's already been a few AI to the Warriors (see Rumor: Allen Iverson to the Warriors and Rumor: Warriors Really After Iverson) or Celtics rumors, but Aldridge is pretty legit.

Still, 99% of rumors never happen, but 99% of them are fun to talk about!

Do you think the Warriors have a realistic shot at AI? What kind of packages would you put together for Iverson?

It's possible...

If we play our cards right...we might pull it off. No one thought we would have a chance at getting Baron Davis last year, but unlike the trade with New Orleans, we're gonna be offering a lot more to the table, and I seriously feel like we have more to offer than Memphis or Denver. But then again, if it doesn't happen, I wouldn't be surprised because nothing like this ever happens to the Warriors.

The Answer

NO player on the roster should be considered untouchable in a trade package for AI. It would be ideal if the package consisted of Dunleavy, Murphy, and Foyle but that will never happen. Realistically we will have to deal either BD or J Rich along with likely Murphy, Pietrus, Ike, or draft considerations to land The Answer. I would probably open the bidding with a Baron + draft picks offer and work into offering up Troy in addition to Baron and saving the picks if possible. No way BD and AI can play together so Baron has to be in the deal, possibly with cash considerations included.

Iverson is exactly what this franchise needs. We should know by now the coach isn't holding players accountable for their play. Iverson is the type of player who gives a max effort every night on the floor and will demand the same from his teammates. More than anything he does with the ball in his hand he brings a determination to win and won't accept the losing tradition that the current roster has become all to familiar with. He may not be the player he once was but he would be the best player this team has had in over a decade by a landslide (no disrespect to my man J Rich, but it's not close).

The question is...what one player could the Warriors trade for this offseason that would make them a legit playoff team.

The trio of Baron, AI, and J-Rich remind me a whole lot of another superstar guard trio on another team in New York that shall remained unnamed.

If we get AI

and that's a BIG IF, we gotta unload Baron. There's no way in hell those two coexist on the same team.

That being said, it's probably all a big pipe dream in the sky. Boston's the one that's purposely gathering pieces just to get AI in a deal.

Philly would be crazy to trade AI. They'd be even crazier to trade him to division rival Boston Celtics. AI would HAUNT them.

If I were the Sixers and I was dumb enough to trade AI, I'd move him West.

Can you imagine how nasty those Philly fans are going to get if they move AI? Especially to a division foe?

AI isn't going to boston. no way they'd keep him in the division, and i agree that baron and AI can't coexist. i think the best idea would be to trade baron for a good back up point like possibly tyrrone lue and then also get the hawks 07 drfat pick. who knows myabe we land oden
