Rumor: Al Harrington- Even Split between Warriors and Pacers

From Janny Hu of SF Chronicle:

Turns out the Warriors' courtship of Al Harrington is remarkably extensive.
On July 1, the first day of free agency, Golden State contacted the Hawks' forward to let him know of their interest. Harrington has since talked regularly with vice president Chris Mullin, spent the last 10 days working out with Baron Davis, and fielded recruiting pitches from both Davis and Jason Richardson.

That's all according to Harrington, who dropped in on summer league Monday night after watching Davis and Paul Pierce's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" charity game in Los Angeles the day before.

Harrington called it an even split between Golden State and Indiana for his services -- assuming that a sign-and-trade deal can be worked out with the Hawks.

"I figured that a lot of people would have interest, and they're taking a very strong look at it," Harrington said about the Warriors. "So we'll see what happens."

UPDATE: Here's more from Marty Burns of SI.com:

Harrington, the free agent Hawks forward who stopped by the Cox Pavilion on the campus of UNLV to watch some of the action, said he still is waiting to hear about a possible sign-and-trade deal to the Pacers or Warriors.

If Mr. Lipton does indeed choose the Warriors over the Pacers this could potentially send Indiana into lottery mode. Given his expensive contract, injury history, and likely big return of prospects, the first guy to go from Indiana would probably be Jermaine O'Neal. The Warriors have the pieces to pull off a rebuild-mode type trade with the Pacers.

Al Harrington's cool, but Jermaine's just BAD!

It's good that the Warriors are trying so hard to court Al Harrington because it could lead to a lineup featuring:

PG: Baron Davis
SG: Jason Richardson
SF: Mike Dunleavy
PF: Al Harrington
C: Jermaine O'Neal

* I'm assuming that Troy Murphy, Mickael Pietrus, Ike Diogu, and Andris Biedrins would all be gone to pull this off. Also for long stretches the Warriors might be able to go small with a trio and Boom Dizzle, Monta, and JRich with Dunleavy on the bench.

Unless there were significant injuries there is no way that this squad wouldn't make at least the 2nd round of the playoffs. We can only dream...

Biedrins
From that same article, apparently Biedrins did get hurt.

Biedrins out: The Warriors lost another significant player to injury Monday when Andris Biedrins strained his left groin a minute into the first quarter. Biedrins left the game shortly after a lay-up attempt, but he wasn't sure when the injury actually occurred.

Biedrins, who will be held out of the Warriors' final two games, was especially disappointed by the timing of the injury. The third-year center had spent much of summer league trying to incorporate a face-up game into his offensive repertoire.

o'neal+harrington=big playoff run
the warriors have a good core in baron and j-rcih, al would help them out and o'neal is a star, if the warriors have the oppurtunity to do this they should pull the trigger as fast as possible

btw kind of off topic but casey jacobsen is doing pretty well in the summer league for the nuggets, maybe the w's should try to get him to help extend the D

Can't find the quote but...
I remember Jacobsen badmouthing our team once.  I couldn't find the quote but he is in the same category as Wally Szczerbiak for me.  Wally is perminantly on my shit list for this comment regarding the Marc Jackson trade in February of 2002:

"He's not built for a bunch of clowns they got over there in
Golden State. He's more of a guy that needs to play with players
who know how to play basketball." -Wally Szczerbiak

Maybe somebody else can find or remembers the Jacobsen quote.

J.cob -greatest accomplishment: coming up with the Golden State of Mind name.

Clowning
The players aren't clowns, but the Warriors (mis)management sure are.

I think Wally was referring to the players, but if he meant the organization he was dead on. Especially given that dumb contract match they did on Marc Jackson. They didn't even want him. It was pointless.

All this talk about the Warriors
makes me think Harrington is just using the W's in the media to get more $ from the Pacers (ala Kobe w/ the Clippers).
