BREAKING NEWS: Derek Fisher Traded to the Utah Jazz

Warriors trade Derek Fisher to Jazz for Devin Brown, Keith McLeod, and Andre Owens

The long-rumored and long-awaited Derek Fisher trade has finally been completed (also see Warriors.com). For the Warriors, it's pretty much a salary dump and a way to open up some playing time for Monta Ellis. Let's hope this sets up another meaningful trade, because the newly acquired trio of Devin Brown, Keith McLeod, and Andre Owens probably won't see any playing time in a Warriors' jersey.

Here's a little bit of a reality check on the trade from Ira Winderman of The Sporting News:

Yes, Golden State will save the $26.5 million due over the next four seasons to PG Derek Fisher, who was moved to the Jazz in a salary dump. But the Warriors gave up their top 3-point and free throw shooter after ranking 22nd and 26th in those categories last season. The Warriors' primary backup to enigmatic and injury-prone PG Baron Davis is Monta Ellis, who hurt his knee in a summer-league practice last week. . . .

I've never been a fan of Derek Fisher's game (see Report Card) and the 5 year free agent contract that Chris and Rod (see Report Card) inked him to was just painfully dumb. However, Fisher is a class act and will be missed for his professionalism and dedication to the game. He always kept himself in great shape and showed up to play every night. DFish is a valuable backup point guard and isn't the reason the Warriors missed the playoffs for the 12th consecutive year. This trade isn't a basketball move. You wish guys like Adonal Foyle and Mike Dunleavy, who didn't show up to play last season would get banished to Utah, not Fish. Make no mistake, hoops-wise this trade is a step back, not a step forward.

We wish Derek Fisher all the best in Utah!

I don't really care either way
I won't feel satisfied until Dunleavy and Foyle get dumped. And, I'm struggling to figure out what the big deal is with Harrington. I mean, is he really good defensively, or something? His offensive stats are only so-so.

it may be a step back but...
Have you ever heard of the saying, take one step back to go 2 steps forward?

We over bid for Fisher, now he's gone.
GSW Org needs a vision and long term plan.  They have to stop trying to fix a decade of problems with a few signings.

We got Fisher after overbidding for him.  Now we dump his salary and are looking for the next big thing -- like Al Harrington.

Orgs like the Bulls have patiently cleaned house to change an orgs culture.

I agree w/ Atma Bro1
Fish wasn't the MVP of the Warriors, but he is a class act and him and JR were the only ones who showed up ready to play every night. If it wasn't for him, we would have definitely had a higher draft pick.

Of the 4 overpaid players, he was the least deserving of the dump trade. And sending him to the middle of Utah... that's cold.

Thanks Fish. Wish you the best.

Fish
Out of the four overpaid players, he's probably the only one who could be traded as easily as he was.  Murphy might be better skill-wise, but his contract is much worse.

Anyway, Fish was a pro's pro, and I'm sure he'll make Utah better next year.

Still annoyed that we drafted Tod Fuller

make a trade big?
who is there to trade for now?  we won't get al harrington because it looks like he'll go to indiana since they just got that trade exception.  denver will probably try to get AI before talking trade with warriors and hawks
