The Yi Movement Continues...

Greg Oden who? Kevin Durant who? Joakim Noah who?

YI WHAT?!

In the 2007 NBA Draft it's going to be all about Chinese balla Yi Jian Lian.

Here's the latest on The Yi Movement from Chad Ford of ESPN about what should be a stellar 2007 draft class:

The most intriguing name may be China's Jianlian Yi. Yi is the best Chinese prospect since Yao Ming. He has a great deal of experience playing in international competitions and at the highest level in China, and he is an excellent athlete and a skilled offensive player. China has been reluctant to release him to the NBA, but we're hearing next year could be the year.

Next year could also be OUR year!

Yi throwing it down... FROM HALF COURT!

Do you think the Warriors are going to end up with a top 10 pick in next year's draft?

Unbelievable
I heard he can dunk from the three point line. NO LIE. I think it was on Youtube the other day. i'll check it out =)

We need a more reliable counterpart in China to give us the real scoop ... anyone?

OF COURSE
It wouldn't be an NBA draft without the Warriors somewhere in the lottery between the picks of 9-12.  Next years draft class looks pretty deep and i'd be hesistant on draft YI considering whats been out there.  I'd definitely take him as a mid-late to first rounder (please god Warriors are in those slots... that means they're in the playoffs!).

From half court?
I could have sworn that pic was him just grabbing a defensive rebound and then immediately jumping the length of the court doing an 1800 degree dunk putting the ball between his legs... 5 times.

He's very skilled in the Shaolin martial arts, you know.

It's tough being a Warriors fan. Good thing we all have a great sense of humor!

W's in the Top 10 Draft? Maybe...Yi a W? Forget it
With all this hype that this guy is getting plus his size, we wouldn't have a shot at it unless they somehow find a way to tank the season and end up with atleast a top 3 pick because this guy will not fall deep. I'm just tired of all these rookies we're babysitting/grooming. Why don't they just forget about Harrington (because of the 7.5 mil trade exception the pacers have to offer) and go after BONZI WELLS!!! lol This guy is a workhorse.

Seriously?
You think Yi will be a top 3 pick next year?  You think he'll go right after Oden and Noah?  No way.

Lottery Pick
Not that 2007 Mock Drafts mean anything right now, but take a look:

NBA Draft.net has Yi going 6th
http://nbadraft.net/

Pro Basketball has Yi going 9th
http://probasketball.about.com/b/a/257667.htm

A top 3 pick for this 7 footer doesn't seem out of the question and I predict Joakim Noah to tumble down. His decision not to enter the NBA draft this past year was just dumb. It was a weak draft where he probably would have went top 3. Noah's going to get exposed big time this year and hurt his draft stock.

  1. Oden
  2. Durant
  3. Yi
It's possible.

Money might be the problem
ESPN notes:
Jul 7 - A source told the Rocky Mountain News that Sacramento has offered Bonzi Wells a five-year contract worth about $36 million, but Wells wants more. According to the newspaper, the Nuggets are interested in Wells but can't offer more than a five-year, $30 million deal.

so I'm not sure if the Warriors can offer enough?

Patience and Boniz is nuts but not stupid.
Boniz Wells played and behaved well at the end of a contract year.  This year, after he signs a fat long trem contract, expect more of the old Bonzi Wells to show up for work.

Thrashing and overpaying for flawed players isn't working.  The GM needs to be patient and if no good trade can be cut, go into 2006-7 with more-or-less the current roster.  Maybe a trade will open during the Fall.

The 2007 draft isn't going to matter to a team that keeps thinking about tomorrow and doesn't take care of the today.
Talent shmalent.
Stop screwing around: Play team defense, take charges, and penetrate and kick-out before jacking up threes.

Re: Seriously
I'm not a fan of Yi but his size/skills (though raw) will be enough that teams will take the risk on him. Plus, all this hype he's getting from ESPN can only help his stock. Look at Barganani. Last year he wasn't expected to be a top 3 pick nevertheless the first pick in the draft but his size was too hard to overlook. No one was even talking about the guy. But anything can happen. Big men who can shoot and explode on offense don't come too often so when they're available teams are willing to take risks. i.e. Darko? lolz

I hate Bonzi Wells
The guys a prick. I just can't stand him. I mean, he's good, but not good enough for me too cheer for him. I think he's the devil.
