Rumor: Sixers want Troy Murphy or Jason Richardson for Allen Iverson

From David Aldridge of the Philadelphia Inquirer:

The Sixers surely realize that teams are trying to rip them off at the moment, and will only get serious when their own seasons begin to blow up - a realization that usually takes hold around Christmas or so.

Maybe, if the Warriors have gone south again, Golden State might cave in and give Philly what it wants - either Troy Murphy or Jason Richardson.

If all it takes is Troy Murphy plus some overrated youth to bring in Allen Iverson then Chris and Rod would be insane not to pull the trigger and make this deal happen. If it takes Jason Richardson, then it's understandable why they might not ok the deal. JRich is the heart and soul of this team. Trading away this classy, true warrior would be sending the wrong message. Hoops-wise it's a no brainer to move JRich for Iverson, but PR-wise it would be awful... Don Nelson vs. Chris Webber awful.

The Warriors have been lacking star power for the past decade plus. AI fills the seats and fits into a Western Conference All Star jersey. Some are worried about how The Answer, B Diddy, and Rich would fit together since they all seem to need the ball. Don't worry about that at all. All 3 of these guys have something to prove and want to win badly. They'll make it happen.

iverson-warriors
Make THIS happen!

Forget the baby steps of bringing in Al Harrington and trading away Derek Fisher in a contract dump. Allen Iverson is one giant step forward for this pitiful franchise, which we all adore for some unknown reason. Remember, Allen will play here.

Would you trade Troy Murphy plus some youth for Allen Iverson? How about Jason Richardson?

I would do it
Murphy and MP for AI.  MP fuckin sucks..the guy will never be good.  Classic example of a bench player who shows us a few dunks or two.  Get rid of him!!!

i would do it
The 76ers want either murphy or richardson. they also need a point guard so why dont the warriors trade murphy and BD because iverson doesnt miss games and BD misses about 20-30 games a season and so a murphy and Baron trade for iverson should put the warriors in the post season.

Trade BD
We don't need both AI and BD. Trade BD and Murphy. I don't think that's too much to give up - a huge murph contract plus an oft injured three point shooting selfish point guard? Great. But don't put AI and BD on the same team. I just think we'd end up like the knicks - "stockpiling assets" but assets that don't work together/don't fit. We'd also be stockpiling 'tudes. What are we going to do, start 2 point guards? Bring one of them in off the bench? Yeah, that'd go over well. I'd like to see the W's get rid of BD for AI, if AI is what they must have.

I would trade Murph.
I would throw Murph in the trade and add Chris Taft or something. Just nothing that involves our two main stars, BDiddy and JRich. We might as well throw Keith McLeod in this trade since no one really gives a care about him. But Not BDiddy. Or maybe even Pietrus. Pietrus had his chance to shine but never used his opportunity. I think we should trade McLeod and Murphy or Pietrus and Murphy.

Running out of time
Whatever deal we do can't wait till mid-season like Aldridge says, I think we all remember how that worked with BD, flash of hope then no playoffs again.  We need to pull the trigger on something other than salary dumps
Well theres always next year x12

"big 3"
everyone loves saying "big 3", which i think started in the modern NBA era with the trio of RUN TMC.  But unlike "big 3"s that have failed--like the Dallas trio of JKidd, Mashburn and Jim Jackson and the previous Warriors trio of JRich, Arenas and Jamison (quad if you wanna add Larry Hughes to that mix)--the potential big three of AI, BD and JR could be huge because they're not as young and potentially immature.  Its worth a shot to see them try to play teamball.  When BD wants to, he can be as unselfish as they come.  And honestly, what other alternative is there?

by dj fuzzylogic on Jul 17, 2006 11:05 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

PG, SG, SF
All of the "Big 3's" you mentioned are a PG, a SG, and a SF.  Throw Cassel, Allen, Robinson in that category too.  That's the big difference between the previous "Big 3's" and AI, BD, and J-Rich.  Thats either PG-PG-SG, or PG-SG-SG, depending on what you consider Iverson.  And I don't think J-Rich can hang at SF.

But, AI is better than any player the Warriors have so the Warriors probably would win a few more games with him than without him.  But he's not the "answer" to the Warriors' problems.

Here Here...
I agree. Even if by some miracle they all decided to share the ball evenly, work their butts off, have great attitudes, etc.; they would still be two point guards and a shooting guard. Doesn't work. Trade BD for AI if you're gonna do it. Or trade BD for some inside help.

I'd do it. I love JRich but Iverson's a STAR
Yeah, I'd trade Murph, BD, or anyone to land Iverson.  JRich will be  a tough one though but there shouldn't be any untouchables on this play-off drought team!

JUST DO IT!  Trade anyone to get the Answer!

We need a change
I say give them Taft and BDiddy. I think that trade would work. Maybe we can throw in a second round pick or a 2008 1st rounder cuz of course our 2007 1st rounder is gonna be spent on Yi!

Trade JRich?
Okay if the 76ers are asking for JRich or Murphy, I'd prefer a Murphy package, obviously. If we trade JRich in a package deal, I would want AI and their 2007 first rounder as well. I don't think they make the playoffs this year, so they'll be in the lottery and then we have more of a shot at Oden. The best option though is to move Baron because the salaries are closest and AI + Baron will be very difficult to co-exist especially with Monty as the coach. But, does anybody really want Baron and his humungo salary plus injury history?

Iverson can score, but he can't win, can he?
While the thought is entertaining, haven't the sixers been, well, not so good in recent history? Sure AI scores alot and is entertaining, but that doesn't mean wins. And I'd really, really like wins. If you guys think he'd make a difference in the wins and standings, then I'm with you. If not, then why do it?

In a heartbeat
Always trade for the better player.  I truly believe in that theory.

As far as who...move Richardson and some overrated youth for AI.  Do not part with the2007 1rst, nor expect the 76ers to move theirs.

Moving JRich
Might turn into the Nick Van Exel 2006 fiasco. Would Iverson want to play in the bay is the big question.

I really don't think we should move JRich before his prime, when he has been commited to this team and getting better each year.

He's maybe a few years from his prime while Iverson is a few years past it. While Baron has the legs of someone past his prime also.

Not that I wouldn't want Iverson, just don't get rid of JRich please.

Iverson's 10 years in the league trump JRich's 5 so he would be capable of playing backseat to the 30ppg scorer.

Playing with Baron, Jason was usually the leading scorer on our team anyway right? If Baron can get back to being near the top of the league in assists/game, 3 scoring options is always better than 1 and a half(half being if Baron even plays).

Moving Troy + young players
I would give Troy Murphy + a couple of players up to get the Answer. But not the future of this franchise = Ellis and Diogu ! Those players are future All-Stars considering there performance at the end of last season. We've got screwd so many times before, now its time that we get our "revenge". Let them get Troy + Pietrus and give them Foyle as a little "Bonus". Other franchises like the Mavs dumped their trash many times on us, we gotta do the same thing. And J-Rich? Untradeable baby!

Future All Stars
I seriously doubt that either Ike or Monta ever makes an All Star team in their careers. They strung together some good performances against a college team (the Blazers) in a bunch of meaningless games.

Before we anoint them as future All Stars let's see them make it to the Rookie-Soph game at All Star weekend first:

Again, I hope I'm completely off here and you're 100% right with your predictions.

trade BD
The warriors can not keep davis he gets hurt all the time so they trade murphy, BD and pietrus and foyld for iverson dalemburt and korver that will give them a shooter and two defensive players which is everything the warriors need. This needs to happen because harrington is not coming to the warriors

Here Here...Again
I agree with this one too. But I'm starting to think that the Warriors aren't going to do a thing, and we're doomed to be the same team minus dfish and bynum. Sigh...
