Rumor: 76ers Want a Troy Murphy Package for Allen Iverson

From David Aldridge of the Philadelphia Inquirer:

After last week's disclosure that Boston was trying very hard to get Iverson, it's likely that Billy King got a lot of calls in the last few days, and it may take a while to sift through all the new offers. And while the best guess for now is that the Celtics remain the leader to land Iverson (and, yes, it would make sense for Philly to get Delonte West in a potential deal), other teams like Golden State and Denver with a surplus of players and a willingness to deal could still cut in front.
For example, the Sixers dearly covet Warriors forward Troy Murphy, who seems to be on the trading block; a package with a couple of other Warriors might get things done.

It seems like a slam dunk that T-Double will not be on the Warriors next season.

We will all be pleasantly SHOCKED if Mullin and company can obtain superstar Allen Iverson without giving up fan favorite Jason Richardon and Baron Davis aka Boom Dizzle.

How many wins do you think the Warriors would rack up if they had a fun trio of AI, Boom Dizzle, and JRich?

99% of rumors never happen, but 99% of them are fun to talk about!

At least 48 wins
PG: Baron
SG: AI
SF: JRich
PF: Ike
C: Some scrub

That's a nice lineup. In this new NBA that might just work.

Let AI Go
Actually, I wouldn't consider AI the answer to the W's problems.

However, if Mully could work some kind of a trade for BD, then AI would make a little more sense.

With a rather newbie NBA coach in Monty, having two strong personalties like AI and BD on the same team under any circumstances could easily and probably spell disaster.

And I just don't see AI at SG, simply because for most of his career he has handled the ball. And could you just imagine other teams playing us with our only inside presence Ike and Andris? Hmmm, I wonder what their strategy would be?

I also don't think it would make any sense to create such a logjam at PG, with AI, BD, Fish, and Monta.

Finally, while AI would be an improvement over BD for hustle and mental toughness, I personally wouldn't pay so much money for an aging superstar. We would just be in the same position we are in now, which is tying up millions on a PG (Read BD or AI) who has a definite downside and is on the downhill in terms of age and physical durability.

What I would do, as I have stated before, is find a way to unload BD and go with Fish and Monta at PG. I probably would look into picking up Speedy, who is reportedly available, for some help off the bench.

I think with Fish/Monta at PG and JRich/Monta at SG, we would have a backcourt that we could go as far as we needed to in the playoffs.

Our big problems arise at SF, PF, and C.

If POB can become a reliable backup to Andris, and they both improve enough to not be a negative factor, we would be OK at C.

I think Ike has possibilities at PF, but he is a few years away. I think a dynamic SF would make all the difference.

I still say trade BD and Troy for a dynamic SF and a solid, playoff-experienced PF to help Ike and Zarko. Keep MD for a backup off the bench.

We would still be a young team, but more balanced.

PG: Fish - Monta - (Speedy)
SG: JRich - Monta - MP
SF: (Top SF) - MD - MP
PF: Ike - (Reliable PF) - Zarko
C: Andris - POB - Kosta Coast

As you can see, I don't consider Adonyl a part of the W's future.

Our strength would be JRich and the best SF we could get. Fish would give experienced and reliable help, as would the PF.

Monta, MP, MD, (Reliable PF), Zarko, and POB seem to be an excellent bench that definately could score.

We would be very young with Ike and Andris, but sometimes young can work, and they will only get better.

So in conclusion, I hope Mully doesn't even consider AI. I just think the possible problems and unbalanced roster would outweigh any advantages.

I'm torn
On one hand, having AI would be pretty damn exciting every game.  It would be a lot of fun to watch.

On the other hand, it does nothing for the Warriors in terms of winning anything.  Maybe we sneak into the 8th spot.  BD and AI on the same team makes as much sense as Marbury and Francis on the same team.  I don't think JRich can hang at the SF spot, although he'd still be an upgrade to MDJ.  For the most part I agree with Pineriver.

If we got AI and then could swing another trade sending BD for a good SF/PF that might make some sense.

AI is NOT the answer
I don't want AI here ... getting too old and won't really help us. we have then 3 players who need the ball in their hands.

we just need Dunleavy to step up and take over =)

Murphy
Needs to go for a star Small Forward... That's where the problem lies. Or......... The best fit i think is getting Maggette with Dunleavy and Troy Murphy (makes more sense with Murphy than with Pietrus for both sides). Keep BD for the time being... Trade Fisher to the Cav's for Drew Gooden. Gooden is tenacious and good on the boards. Rotate Gooden with Diogu. Get Speedy Claxton using Pietrus.

PG: BD, Claxton
SG: J-Rich, Monta
SF: Maggette, Gooden
PF: Gooden, Diogu, Zarko
C: Biedrins, O'Bryant, Kosta

AI
if the warriors go out and get AI for murphy and a few others that would be great because the warriors need to get rid of Bd because he is very overated because dunleavy needs the ball in his hands for him to be at his best and BD doesnt give him the ball but AI gets everyone involved in the game.

Get AI
Get 42 wins, perhaps sneak into the playoffs.

For everyone to say AI is getting older, he's not falling off as much as say Shaq right now. His assists are up, he takes care of the ball, but he just lacks a bit of defense outside of his 2 or so steals a game. Plus he is very durable and misses few games a year. Compare that to Baron in which him playing 70 games a year is beyond realistic.

As long as he doesn't pull 30+ shots a night, which he most likely would not lest he be trade bait for the mentioned SF help.

And did anyone see who the Bucks drafted after "Kosta Coast"? David Noel from North Carolina. Known primarily as a dunker and second option swingman, but look how someone similar, JRich, turned out.

Murph/Pietrus/Zarko/Fish for The Answer
According to RealGm Tradechecker, this trade would work.

Troy Murphy, Mickael Pietrus, Zarko Carbarkapa, and Derek Fisher for The Answer.

We might even be able to sway a draft pick or two out of the Sixers, since they desperately want to move Iverson.

Baron (Speedy - $1 mil exception or $5 mil)
Iverson (Ellis)
Richardson (Dunleavy)
Diogu (Biedrins) (Taft)
Foyle (O'Bryant) (Kosta)

That team would make the playoffs.

Iverson is the Answer for a reason.
Iverson has the biggest heart in the NBA right now. He gives 100% every game no matter how old he is. He would have the most experience on the team and it would be good for the warriors least cheaney is going to be gone. Iverson would be the Answer to the Warriors. But... I would rather get Al Harrington in a sign and trade deal with ATL. With the pieces that the warriors have, Al Harrington would be a great fit with the Warriors. Even a chance of getting Bonzi to play Small Foward would be great. I think Bonzi is the best on the free agent market

by minw00 on Jul 3, 2006 4:10 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Iverson Trade
We could make the deal for Iverson and make a separate deal for Al Harrington using Baron Davis as the trade bait.  Here's what the roster could look like.

PG - Allen Iverson, Monta Ellis

SG - Jason Richardson, Monta Ellis

SF - Al Harrington, Mike Dunleavy Jr.

PF - Ike Diogu, Christ Taft

C - Andris Biedrins, Patrick O'Bryant

In the above scenario we deal Troy Murphy, Mickael Pietrus, Derek Fisher and Adoynal Foyle for AI and maybe some cap filler.

We then deal Baron Davis for Al Harrington in a sign and trade.

I think these two deals would put the Warriors in the playoffs next season while still allowing us to have some young players on the rise (Ellis, Diogu, Taft, Biedrins, O'Bryant) with some young veterans (J-Rich and Harrington) and aging veteran STAR player in Iverson.  Thoughts on how realistic this is?

Don't Forget Zark the Shark!
Very interesting. It really has some possibilities.

I would not count on Taft, however, due to injuries.

Personally, I think Zarko may develop into a Kevin McHale-type player that could back up Ike, wouldn't complain, and would add an outside threat.

Our bench would be a little weak at PG-SG. I know AI and JRich wouldn't need too much help, and Monta is better than excellent for his age, however, I'd feel better with one more player off the bench. Could we get Speedy in your plan?

Overall, very interesting.

Mid-Level Exception
We'd still have the mid-level exception to pursue back up PG's and SG's.  So yes, we'd have a shot at someone like Speedy Claxton or if you're looking for instant offense and a local kid Eddie House.  Not really sure what else is out there in terms of PG's and SG's.

Not so Speedy
It appears he just signed with Atlanta for $25 mil over 4 years.

STEAL
I'm impressed the Hawks just pulled that off. It's the exact opposite of the contract Mullin and Higgins signed Derek Fisher to 2 years back.

Still Waiting for the Rod and Chris Show to Begin
I am impressed with the Hawks, although I can't help but thinking that R&C might have worked out a nice deal with BD and Al Harrington, which would have instantly improved the W's.

The Bulls are looking better overnight (Getting ready to sign Big Ben). The Lakers also made a nice move with Radmanovic and the Hornets with Peja.

So the question is, where are Rod and Chris?

by pineriver on Jul 4, 2006 7:33 AM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

where are Rod and Chris?
At a July 4th BBQ with Timmie, Mitch, Sarunas, Manute, and the Razor?

I like your thinking
It does give us an exciting lineup without totally cashing out our future (unlike the trade I just posted in the Diary section). But maybe we should keep Foyle - So out entire frontcourt doesn't foul out in like 10 minutes. It could be Foyle's one time to shine as the poor man's Ben Wallace on a contending team.

Norcal
I like it ... bringing in Harrington would be sweet with AI and Richardson. that could be a great team.

I don't see AI and Baron being able to co-exist with those two huge ego's, oh and do you honestly think our current coach can even take someone more problematic then baron???
