harringtons gone go for gooden

if harrington gone like they say he is then the warriors still need help in the frontcourt. my guess would be they chase drew gooden from the cavaliers. i alctually prefer gooden to harrington due to goodens rebounding ability. i think it's a must that mully makes some addition to the roster and gooden could really help the team

Gooding
The cool thing about Drew Gooden is that he actually wants to play here. The man's from Richmond and I've read before that he would like to play in front of his home town.

I've also read some coaches/ scouts say that Gooden could lead the league in rebounding if he focused on it and made it his primary goal. Gooden shouldn't cost as much as Harrington or even the ridiculous Nene signing for $60.

If the Warriors can get him for around 40-50 million, it's a no-brainer.

thanks
i agree. he was leading the nba in offensive rebounds at the all star break, which, with our shooting percentage we could really use. and the money is also big. we could save a lot of money with him instead of harrington. however noones saying anything about harrington except for the one newspaper and harrington can play three so i'd take harrington.

Why??? Gooden isn't the answer...
Drew Gooden??? Are you serious??? Why not a BONZI WELLS. Gooden would give us rebounding but no scoring. Plus will have an overload of bigs. We need a SF who can score and rebound. It would be a big mistake for the Warriors to make a stupid move like that just to say they actually made a move this summer. They're better off holding on to what they have now until a better player becomes available...Don't u think your giving Drew Gooden a lil too much of the Hometown bias. Picking up gooden would mean no minutes for Diogu. They should continue to develop Diogu into the player we all know he's capable of being.

gooden=murphy move
i know murphy has a large contract and the warriors would like to move him. however murpghy is the only player on that team who can rebound, which actually makes him somewhat inexpendable. signing gooden would give you the freedom to move murphy for possibly a better sf. by the way, i think we have a young sf on the rise. steven smith played for la salle.  he went undrafted and the warriors picked him up. he led the team in scoring at 13 ppg and five rebounds. he averaged 20 ppg and 8 rpg per game in his final season at la salle. he also shows some promise as a shot blocker. he has a large wingspan and averaged 1.5 bpg in thee summer league. he also showed the ability to play with hs back to the basket  and knock down a three. i'm telling you  this guy could be good

Gooden?
Are you serious?  I wouldn't pay Drew Gooden $20 to mow my lawn, much less $40-50 million to play for my basketball team.

what s wrong with gooden
honestly, what is so awful about drew gooden? he answers the warriors need for rebounding and give them the freedom to move murph. when boom dizzle is healthy the warriors dont need to worry about scoring and havig someone like gooden who can grab boards and give us second chances would be more beneficial than having murph crowding up the perimeter

Re: What's wrong with Gooden.
What's wrong with Ike is a better question. Ike can rebound. Why bring Gooden in the mix if we already have a surplus of bigs. Gooden does not fullfill our needs. What we really need is a SF who can actually play!

So basically your saying a lineup of...
PG Davis
SG J Rich
SF Dunleavy
PF Gooden
C  Foyle

????What are you smoking. That lineup is ridiculous. I don't even see anything different to when we had Murphy in there. The warriors aren't that stupid to make a deal for Gooden unless it rids us Foyle. Since they already missed out on Harrington, the best thing to do for them is just be patient until the right player becomes available.

Instead of Gooden...
A Troy Murphy for Jamaal Magloire deal straight up will work under the CBA. Plus he's on the last year of his deal giving us the option of freeing up cap room! The only way this will work is if the Bucks are willing to take on Murphy's contract.

PG Davis
SG Richardson
SF Dunleavy or Pietrus
PF Diogu
C  Magloire

At least this lineup will give us a Center who can catch and shoot. No more of Foyle's Follies.

ike cannot rbound
ar you joking? ike diogu is ne of the worst rebounding big men in the league. if you can sign goodn to a mor rasonable deal then you could have the freedom to move murph to a team like the bobcats who could use another scorer, and don't have to worry about his lack of defense with okafor around. besides, charlotte could absorb his contract and in return the warriors could take brevin knight which would keep monta ellis as a sg where he belongs. ike diogu is a good player, but until he gets in better shape to keep pace with the warriors up-tempo offense for extended periods of time he's not ready to start

by mydedgerbil555 on Jul 23, 2006 7:56 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Worst rebounding big men????
How can he be "one of the worst rebounding big men" if he barely gets any minutes? Diogu was just a rookie last year and your already expecting him to be one of the top rebounders in the game? So what's the purpose of Mullin drafting him at No. 9? to be a back up to gooden? Your a lil too infatuated with gooden. Replacing Murphy with Gooden is actually another step back!

im not saying goodens is god
i'm not saying gooden is the answer to all our problems. i'm saying since harringtons off the board gooden is the best frontcourt man left. and the warriors need help in the frontcourt. it was just an idea, i'm not sure how i pissed you off in announcing my idea

by mydedgerbil555 on Jul 23, 2006 11:14 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Don't worry man
I don't think anyone's pissed off. We're all rooting for the same squad here. It's 1-Luv.

EVERYONE's opinions are welcome here. There's going to be disagreements, but that's what makes this fun.

Unlike some message boards, I always enjoy reading the GSoM community's discussions. Flame wars, racist, sexist, or homophobic comments are pretty much nonexistent here. Let's all work hard to keep it fun and safe here. Remember, there's young Warrior fans reading GSoM too!

And for the record- I'm very pro-Gooden. I actually wanted the Warriors to draft him back in 2002. Who did they take instead? Mister Funleavy.

Gooden can provide immediate help defensively and with the offensive boards. When he's focused, Gooden does the little things that help you win that don't show up in the boxscore.

I wanted Gooden in 02, too
I'd be elated if we got him. I'm assuming if we did Murphy would be gone and that'd be a huge upgrade.

The thing about Gooden is that he would allow us to play a small lineup. Last season when we tried it wed get a lot of efficient play from the guards but Diogu was too small inside and Murphy was too soft and we'd be outmatched to the point where we'd have to desperately call Foyle back in. Gooden isn't like that. He's obviously not a center, but he can match up against one well enough, especially in a run first small lineup. He's also quick enough to keep up in a run first attack. That was a major problem with last year. We wanted to be the Suns, and what kept us from being that was a)Baron didnt play like Steve Nash and didn't stay healthy and b)We were completely, wholly outmatched when we tried it, because, as I said, we would lose inside presence entirely. Foyle would be trotted back out and disrupt the flow entirely. I think that's partly what was messing with Baron too last year.

pissed off is good!
The Ws need to know fans are getting pissed off! we're all frustrated (particularly those of us old enough to have lived through this since Run TMC!). The mystery is why everyone is so eager to dump our best scoring and rebounding big man (Murphy)! We need to avoid picking up (more) under achieving & over paid players (Dun, Foyle) Add Magloire?! Gooden?? look at their stats, can we expect they'll suddenly become better? Unless we can unload Dun's contract rather than Murphy's where's the gain? At least the Bucks are looking for a backup wing, maybe there is a possibility. The love for Ike is similarly mysterious - he's totally unproven. Where's the love for Murphy? And why not pair him with an athletic All Star forward like say, KMart?
BD-JRich-Kmart-TM & the three headed center.

2 cents
I think gooden makes sense for a couple reasons.
  1. He's a not as talented as Murph all around, but he is better down low which translates to helping the team more.
  2. He had a little bit of an off year last season (ppg down almost 4pts) so we can get a little bit of a deal supposing he bounces back.  Which will probably happen since he was unhappy in Cleveland.  And what better way to have a career season than in front of your home crowd.
  3. He took three 3pt shots last season.
  4. Big Offensive Rebounder.  Something we need if Boom Dizzle keeps hoisting up the treys.
Now, that might leave Diogu with less minutes which is tough.  But Murphy actually played 6.5 minutes more than Gooden did last year.

go for gooden is fine
Harrington is gone...and worst of all, we still have murph and dumbleavy.ill give it to murph that he is a double double every nite, but Dun, i dunno. its pretty sad. we should still try to a all star caliber small forward, and who knows, we could be the Goldenstate Wizards and juss ride the backs of J rich, BD, and a good small forward we acquire somewhow. itll be like Jamison, Arenas, and Butler. Sooo, gooden might be a good fit. doesnt have skills like caron, but alrite.
