Warriors Concede Defeat in Al Harrington Dealings

The sign-and-trade between the Pacers and Hawks for Al Harrington is not yet officially a done deal, but Marc Stein of ESPN.com notes that the Warriors have conceded that Harrington is not coming to the Bay:

Harrington's return to the Indiana Pacers via sign-and-trade with the Atlanta Hawks, according to various NBA front-office sources, is widely seen as a done deal.

Perhaps the strongest indication that a formal announcement is forthcoming from Indianapolis is the fact that the Pacers' main competition for Harrington is no longer courting the versatile forward.

The Golden State Warriors, sources said, have conceded defeat in the Harrington chase, fully expecting the 26-year-old to join the Pacers in a swap with Atlanta that would net Harrington a six-year contract worth just under $57 million.

Are the Pacers overpaying for Al? Sure, but would you rather have Al Harrington at 9.5 million a year, Troy Murphy at 10 million a year, or Mike Dunleavy at 8.8 million a year?

No doubt
Harrington is a better value for the money than Dun-dun or murph.  Murphy could make the strides and put up the same numbers as al, but nevertheless he does not fit in with the warriors system.  So looking at who is (realisticly) left, well theres not much.  Id say the best option out there is Zach Randolph, attitude/motivation are questions, but he has the post up game we desperately need. He would fit right in with Boom-dizzle, they can both overthrow monty, burn the play book, and maybe win some games on talent alone(yea, right).  That or we just tank the season for Oden or Yi
Well theres always next year x12

Re: No doubt
We already have a 'lesser' player but a 'better' teammate with about as much upside. His name is Ike Diogu.

Think Hawks
Al Harrington was on the Hawks. My guess is that his numbers were a little inflated and he isn't the best rebounder.

Al Harrington - overrated
Steven A Smith, ChiTrib writer, has often characterized Al Harrington as a flawed player who is a bit of a tweener and doesn't pass out of the post and slows down ball movement.

I just mention him [Al Harrington] as someone I've heard the Bulls will look at. But I don't think Harrington gets you better. I don't think he's a true power forward or small forward and Deng and Nocioni both are better. His only lure is his post scoring, but I see him as a player who stops the ball and would hurt the way the Bulls play and in the end I don't think they'll make a serious bid for him.

I'd rather keep Murphy and Dunleavy and build a team around ball movement than add a guy who got stats playing on a losing team with weak post players.

No way...
... that Harrington is better than Murph. Double double players don't grow on trees, and Harrington isn't even that good of a scorer. (his PPG was a little high cause he was the go to guy on the Hawks).

No use in trying now, since our big move is gone
No use in tryna now, since our big move was Al Harrington, who is gone now, and we still have dumbleavy. who we cant trade for spit, but we still have murph, he has value, teams are interested dfinitely. hopefully, mullins does sometin before the season starts, someting like, huge...or...we can just play the season for Yi!!!

Time for a GM Trade
I'd rather keep Troy and MD and make a GM trade: Chris Mullin for Larry Bird.

Harrington has provided few results
Harrington's record isn't particularly impressive.  He's not much of a rebounder for a guy his size.  He's not a terribly efficient passer.  If his defense was something to write home about, this might be acceptable, but for several years he's been a net-negative for his teams in +/-.  Put him on the court and you don't do as well as you do with him on your bench.  That's not what you want in a 9.5 million/year player.
