We Want Larry!

No, not the desperate housewife Larry "Drama" Brown (see Is Larry Brown Golden?, Larry Brown to Coach the Warriors, Larry Brown's Got Next?), but Oracle CEO Larry Ellison. Mr. Oracle has been rumored for years to be dying to buy a sports franchise in the Bay Area.

It looks like Ellison was a major player in the recent bidding war for the Seattle Sonics too. From the NY Times:

"There were many prospective owners who came to the table who were disingenuous about their efforts to keep the team here," Schultz said.

There were two other bidders in the final stage of the process, one from Kansas City, Mo., and another from San Jose, Calif., led by Larry Ellison, the chief executive of the Oracle Corporation.

The Seattle Times offers further evidence of Ellison's serious interest in making the San Jose Sonics a reality:

At a news conference Tuesday, Schultz said he had turned down offers of more than $350 million in order to sell the Sonics and Storm to a group that would try to keep the teams in Seattle. Sources told The Seattle Times last week those offers included a $425 million offer from Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, who wanted to move the team to San Jose, Calif.

The most exciting part of the piece for Warrior and Niner fans has to be this reiteration of Ellison's past intentions (NY Times):

Ellison has expressed interest in buying the Golden State Warriors and the San Francisco 49ers... He has a basketball court on his yacht.

I'll be my last cabarkapa that that none of the current Warrior (mis)management has a hoops court on their yacht. Ellison is both loaded and a real fan of the game.

Say what you want about how Ellison does business or runs Oracle, but there's no doubt that the man has a lot of pride. If he was the owner there's no way he would let the Warriors or 49ers rot like Chris Cohan and John York have.

Unlike current Warrior owner Chris Cohan, Larry Ellison's no clown

Anyone up for starting a "Sell the Warriors to Larry" or "Sell the 49ers to Larry" campaign?

What do you think life would be like for Warrior fans if Larry Ellison bought the team?

On second thought, we'll gladly take Larry Brown over Mike Montgomery to coach the Warriors any day too.

I'd dance in the streets
I'd prophesy the golden age of Warriors basketball. It'd be the happiest moment of my basketball related life if he bought the team.

I'd say playoffs is a possibility
Larry Ellison for president!!
Larry Brown for coach!!

Ellison's over extended.
Larry's aggressive and stock leveraged spending habits have made the SF papers and indicate he's probably too over extended to buy a franchise but talking about it is great press.  Larry wants "Mark Cuban" level attention.

He's borrowed a lot of money off his stock holdings and is vulnerable to an Oracle stock shock which would force him to sell at unfavorable prices to cover these loans.

Possibly his 425M offer wasn't as fiscally sound -- a much lower bid was accepted.  Common, The owners accepted a lesser bid from an OKCity group because it was more likely they'd stay in Seattle!?!  BS!

Ego driven owners who meddle scare me.  No to Ellison and Cohan's ownership is a proven disaster.  Can't we sue him?

Larry x 2
I'd take anybody besides Cohan. He's battin' 1.000 in suckage. And I'd take most anybody besides Monty too.

So what if Larry E. wants attention? Even if he's Cuban the second coming, the Mavs have been great these past few years.

I'd happily take some owner antics in exchange for some hope, some wins, or just a change, dammit.

(Not that I like Cuban. He's an idiot. But at least he's an idiot who wins. We just have an idiot.)

The Bimbo Coles era has BEGUN!!!

Cuban...
What about Cuban? He actually cares about how the Mavs do. Unlike Cohan.

We want Larry!

Really....
I would jump for joy if ellison was as crazy as mark cuban, why? cause the mavericks made the finals with a few nice trades involving some former warriors, and one of the greatest draft day steals ever.  I dont think we'd be finals bound anytime soon, but I'd gladly take an owner who shows more enthusiasm and passion the our starting SF and C
Well theres always next year x12

Let's get Larry AND....
Jamaal Magloire! I was just thinking about it. He'd be a huge upgrade at center, not that he's a superstar. But he'd shore up our inside game a bit, he's on the trading block, and why the hell not? Magloire or Foyle? Someone call Mullin and get him on this.

(I know this is off topic, but I didn't know where else to put it)

Yes on Magloire
I'd take Magloire in a heartbeat. Right now we have an overpaid and underperforming Foyle, and 2 projects (Biedrins and The Chef) who I'm not excited about. Magloire can step in right away and provide that inside defensive and occasional offensive presence that a solid center can give you. He's not spectacular but averages close to a double-double in points and rebounds. He was a big reason for the success of the Bucks last year.

Not a big Magloire Fan
He's slow and not a real difference maker, BUT I want the Warriors to make a move for him. Why? He's a HUGE upgrade over Foyle and Biendrins and his contract expires after this season. He could be a valuable expiring asset at this year's trading deadline.
