Rumor: Fish to the Jazz for Brown, McLeod, and Owens

From Steve Luhm of The Salt Lake Tribune:

The Jazz and Golden State plan to pull the trigger on a four-player trade that would bring veteran point guard Derek Fisher to Utah.

The Salt Lake Tribune has learned - barring an unexpected hitch - the Jazz will send Devin Brown, Keith McLeod and Andre Owens to the Warriors in exchange for Fisher, a 10-year veteran.

The deal will be completed after Owens signs a free-agent contract with the Jazz next week - a step that is necessary to make the trade adhere to NBA salary requirements.

Brown, McLeod, Owens probably won't help the Warriors, so this trade would be a little puzzling. If this trade is to dump salary or to open up more time for Monta Ellis as a backup point, then there are some positives. In the short run, this trade actually hurts the Warriors. Are they tanking it for Yi?

Re: Fisher to the Jazz
I like the trade. Though it may be minor I have a feeling this is the prelude to an even bigger trade. Correct me if im wrong but this trade looks like it was a trade to dump salary and to give Monta Ellis more playing time. I believe both Brown and Mcleod are both expiring contracts? GET RID OF DUNLEAVY NEXT!!!

What a BLOCKBUSTER
The fact that I can only name 3 players on the Jazz and neither of these 3 players are them makes this sound like a salary cap move.  I only like this trade if it is a setup for something bigger.

I know we are tight on the budget but we couldn't get anything better?

BTW, kudos on the the trade rumor coverage guys.

I think this trade falls under that 1% that isn't fun to talk about.

I am not at the point
Where i can say "In Mullin/Higgins" I trust. This deal on the surface is a straight salary dump, and I can not see any of these three making the roster next year. Hope it's too open up some room for another deal.

The Hornets deal for Chandler looks unbeatable from where I sit. We are still in the hunt for Harrington, maybe this space let's us out pace the Pacers.

We will see.

The Warriors WILL end up being the end of me someday.

HAHAAH MULLIN
trades a veteran guard for some undrafted guards.  he's only fixing his own mistake of giving him a big contract.

Cautiously Optimistic
If this allows us to dip into the free agent market and use the mid-level exception to get somebody, then we will have essentially traded Fisher for that free agent.  Considering guys like Radmonovic and Tim Thomas are signing for the mid-level, we might actually come out with more talent.
Still annoyed that we drafted Tod Fuller

Make me happy
since were getting rid of bad contracts and follow it up by dumping Dunleavy and Foyle next.

I agree...
DUMP FOYLE AND DUNLEAVY ASAP!!! Dunleavy is your practical Duke player...A standout in college and a mediocre (benchwarmer) player in the pro's. i.e. Grant Hill, Bobby Hurley, Shane Battier, Christian Laetner, the list goes on...Now Foyle is a different story. I cannot stand watching Foyle play. He fumbles so many wide open passes! He reminds me a Felton Spencer with a lil more defense.

Grant Hill was Mediocre?
Did you watch basketball pre-2000?  Grant Hill was AWESOME when he was on the Pistons, before he got injured.

But yes, dumping Foyle and MDJ would be nice.

Its All About Monta.....
This deal, if it is done, is going to get rid of a big contract, but more importantly, it will give Monta more minutes, which I think we all know, will bring alot more excitement to this team.  The way he made some veteran guards look very slow last year was amazing....and he's only what...19 or 20 and weighs about 180 lbs.  Hit the weight room a little bit and a star might be born....

Devin Brown
K. i never heard of the other 2 besies devin brown. devin brown will hopefully make the team because pietrus will be gone most likely either this or next year. devin brown is known for his defense. he is supposedly a good defender althought i have barely watched him play.

There's gotta be another move coming
I don't know what Mully's got up his sleeve but I hope its something.  After this trade and the signing the rookies how many players will we have under contract for next season? 15 or 16?  Somethings gotta give.
