Rumor: Sixers Listening to Troy Murphy Package for Allen Iverson
From Jack McCaffery of the DelcoTimes:
Either way you look at it- to set up the fun trio of AI, BD, and JRich or to set up a future trade- moving Troy Murphy for Allen Iverson is a no-brainer. Iverson is a superstar and Murphy will probably never make an All-Star team.

AI's no scrub!
Would you move Troy Murphy (see recent Report Card), the Warriors' best rebounding big man, in a package for Allen Iverson?

Would I Do It?
I'm pretty sure the Warriors will never make the playoffs again so let's at least assemble a team thats fun to watch. This would do the trick.

Real question

I am in..
I am hoping the expiring contracts attained for the artist formally known as D Fish, are part of that package too.
Murphy, Pietrus, 4 MM in expiring, and a couple of protected picks could put us close.
Is it enough is the only question, no if.

AI
Sure he's getting older, his contract is not cap-friendly, but anytime you can get a legit superstar for a non all-star, you do the deal. Think of the excitement when Baron was acquired, now triple or quadruple that if we get AI.
Do I think it's going to happen? No, but if Mullin can pull it off I'll have a new respect for him and his staff.

the answer
I wouldn't wait for the predictable troubles to develop over who gets too many touches between Baron and AI; I wouldn't wait for Montgomery to lose control of both players; I wouldn't wait for the rest of the league to clue in on why AI could be more trouble than he's worth, given a situation like the W's. If we make this trade--and I think we should, as long as we can take this next step--we should IMMEDIATELY turn around and get what we really need, which is a reliable scorer (preferably with a good jump shot and decent free-throwing) who plays decent D at 3, or a great defender who is a decent shooter (think Bruce Bowen).
Watching the W's lose year after year makes us cynical, which is completely understandable. However, I believe that we have a good chance of not only making the playoffs this year but also of continuing to improve, if we fill the hole at 3.
So is AI a better player than Al Harrington? Of course, by a mile and a half. But Harrington fits our needs better at this time.

Don't Forget
- Iverson has been playing hurt for who knows how many seasons. It been typical warrior luck to have a superstar like Iverson decide to take a year off to heal.
- Although he has gotten better, #3 is notorious for stiring the shit. Getting sent to a team like our beloved warriors could rub him the wrong way.
- Monte. Iverson is likely to make him weep openly during a game.

AI and BD on the same floor- who's got the ball?
After all these years, Baron still doesn't know how to stretch before games. I worry everytime he drives to the basket on a fastbreak, don't you? If we had both players, then when is JRich going to get the ball? How many minutes will Ellis play? If we had this team, we'll have to go back to the Don Nelson days of run and gun because we have no inside scoring presence and we'll just have to try and outscore everyone. The problem with this is now with Fisher gone, we have no real shooters on the team. Will anyone shoot over 43%? I can't see Iverson OR Baron in the same backcourt. And JRich is ok as a part time SF, but not fulltime in the Western Conference. If we were in the Eastern Conference this might work, but we have to play against bigger frontcourts in the West.
I love the Warriors and I want to see them win, but we need chemistry. Since when is winning 34 games in a season with both Iverson and Davis considered "exciting?"

The W's Are Starting to Look Like the Knicks
He's getting old, and he's frequently injured. If C&R mortgage the W's future, they are doing it just to make more fans come to see the "AI & BD Show" and make some quick money.
Everybody with an ounce of basketball sense knows the W's would never make it to the Finals with AI & BD. It just wouldn't happen. Who would be left on the team to guard Shaq or Dirk?
If you really want to become the laughingstock (again) of the rest of the NBA and delay any real improvement, then dream on. "It's the greatest show on earth, folks! We may not win, but it'll be exciting!"
Realistically, there would be no game plan except to play street ball and run and gun. Monty wouldn't be able to control BD or AI, neither of whom is known for their coachability.
The NBA is no joke. Believe me, teams like the Bulls and the Lakers and Miami and even Toronto are already getting their ducks in a row for next season's title run.
Meanwhile, C&R just traded the only W with championship experience, great leadership ability and dedication (unlike the PG they kept), who was there for us night in and night out while C&R's franchise player sat on the bench for yet another season, for three more "projects".
Do you think it was just a coincidence that JRich had his best games with Fish at PG?
If C&R make a trade like they, they have truly sold out the W's.
