Warriors 2k6-2k7 FSN Bay Area TV Schedule + Analyzing the Local TV Package

Two weeks back the NBA and the Warriors released their 2006-2007 season schedule. Earlier this week the Warriors' local television schedule on FSN Bay Area was announced. Warriors.com has a nice grid of the TV schedule.

I absolutely love the job FSN Bay Area does covering the Warriors. I miss Greg Papa, but Bob Fitzgerald has become a top play-by-play announcer. It's true that Jim Barnett is old school, but if you're a true hoops junkie you have to appreciate how much knowledge and passion he has for the game. Matt Steinmetz (who also writes some interesting columns for The Sporting News) was a good addition to the telecasts last year too.

Looking over the FSN Bay Area package here's my wish list:

  • 70 games will be televised on FSN leaving 9 games (3 games will be on National TV) strictly on radio. I'm not sure why they aren't televised. Despite the losing the Warriors have always been a pretty popular team in the Bay. Thank god Tim Roye does an excellent job on the radiocasts.
I wish every Warrior game was televised.
  • 3 of the Warriors' final 9 contests will NOT be televised. If the Dub's are in still in the playoff hunt during the final month of the season, it's going to drive us all crazy that we can't watch it.
I wish for the Warriors to be in the playoff hunt and FSN ends up broadcasting these games... in HD too!
  • These fun games won't be televised in the Bay: November 18th against the Sonics (win), December 17th in Toronto against the Craptors (win), March 4th at the Washington Warriors (always fun to see Arenas and Jamison), March 9th against the paperClips in Oakland (boo Sterling), April 4th at Houston (Why not televise Yao and TMac? Very puzzling omission), and April 15th against hopefully the KG-less TWolves.
I wish for Warriors Nation to be extremely frustrated on April 15th because we can't watch KG get his revenge on his former team the TWolves as the Warriors look to clinch a higher seed in the playoffs.
  • 9 games will be on FSN+. Thanks to shady Comcast, this year FSN+ will only be available to digital subscribers, meaning those of you who fork over about $60+ a month on your monthly cable bill. That fine Comcast monopoly at work (sarcasm to the nth degree)! So for many of us who don't drop the $720+ a year on cable, we'll only be able to see 64 of the Warriors' 82 games (61 on FSN Bay Area plus the 3 national games provided they don't get dropped from ESPN or TNT). There's nothing "Comcastic" about that.
I wish Comcast wasn't shady like oil companies.
  • Only 30 games will be in High Definition. The games look spectacular on HD. It's too bad every game isn't broadcast in HD.
I wish I could see more BoomRich alley-oops in HD next season.

So basically and I'm sure all of you will agree- Give us more Warriors games on FSN Bay Area! In HD too! We love it like Adonal loves democracy!

What's your favorite part about the FSN Bay Area television coverage of the Warriors?

Does this mean that
this goes for NBA league pass too?

I'd be pissed if I'm forking over this upteen billion dollars for league pass and not getting 18 games!

And I love Jim Barnetts terms. He'll say stuff like, "That guys a butterfingers" (I think referring to Foyle) and "That ball go snuckered in there!" (when the ball got stuck between the hoop and the backboard). He's good colour commentary, though.

Comcast
I fork over too much cash out here for TV in Manteca and can't even get the W's games. They get pre-empted on FSN out here. I have gone round and round, and even thought about buying leaguepass...guess what THEY told me? The W's games on leaguepass are blacked out in my area because I should be getting them on my cable.
This is crazy..if anyone has answers I'd be eternally grateful!!

Agreed
I'm in Gilroy.  If it's on FSN, I'm good, if they shift it to FSNBA, then I'm blacked out.

Crappy small market cable companies...

What you talkin' 'bout?
I'm in Gilroy and considering DishTV to watch warriors games.

So what's the deal do they switch broadcasts between FSN and FSNBA?  Is this a carrier (Charter Comm) thing or broadcast slit between FSN - FSNBA thing?

It bugs me to pay for TV and sports BUT we have a HDTV and am tired of getting only three channels.

I've paid $19.99 for league pass audio "over the internets" and use that neat NBA flash gametracker on a laptop to follow GSW and Bulls games.  With Audio pass you get all games and either the home or visitor's feed.  It can be very interesting listening to the candid color commentary of an opponent's broadcast.  They can't get fired for riping into GSW player or coach.

More perspective

Definitely keep everyone posted during the regular about the opponents' broadcast views on the Warriors. That some refreshing stuff.

Jim and Bob Are the Best
Great analysis. I agree the TV schedule makes no sense at times. Someday we need to stand up as fans and demand better service.

I enjoy Jim and Bob. They give so much more than the ESPN announcers. They are almost like buddies to GSW fans. They are classy, friendly, very knowledgable, and they try to be as honest as they can under the circumstances.

Jim & Bob
Barnett's knowledge is always on point. Sometimes I wish he'd  walk over to the bench  and impart some of his "basics." His passion for the game comes through every night. Comcast/FSN are a joke the way they treat the outer environs of the Bay Area. I grew up in Manteca and would watch the Ws on KICU as well as FSN (which was called Sportschannel back then if I remember correctly).  My pops wants Ws action BAD, but it's all Sacto for him.

damn
I get Giants games, A's games and sometimes Sharks, but the W's are blacked out. Simply horrible!!!

Crazy Horse and the Fitz
They are pretty sweet.  I agree with all the POSITIVES previously said.  At times they get a little too "HOMER-ish."  Sometimes they need to settle down, and tell it like it is....but they are a local network, so I understand.  They also say the same stuff, year after year.  For instance, Barnett's LOVE with the 2-for-1 at the end of a quarter.  Don't get me wrong, I love the 2-for-1, it makes perfect sense....get a free shot.  But I don't need to hear this 4 times per game ~ 70games/year...everyyear.  Then there's the requisite, "Mike D has all the skillz, he just needs to be more aggressive," line that we here every game....etc.  Overall, I think they do a solid job, and being a W fan, I'm not bothered by their extreme bias.

Other good local announcers (complements of league pass):  Phoenix, Seattle, maybe New Jersey if you like Mark Jackson.

HORRIBLE ANNOUNCERS:  Utah (that guys sounds like he's announcing a hourse race), Detroit (these guys are flat out mean...I felt offended watching a Pistons Warriors game once), and Boston....I hate that freacking Tommy Heinsohn.  I don't care if he was a great player and coach, is flat out annoying!  "OHHHHHHHHHHHH WALTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH"

Yi or Durant/Young/Wright?

Top 7 of '07 draft = Warriors only chance of being good over the next 5 years

WTF!!!!....(Just a random rant.)
When on earth is Comcast going to broadcast FSN HD in San Leandro...I mean...how much closer could I be to the Arena??? With no HD??? It's ridiculous...Does anyone know when, if EVER this is going to happen? I love going to the games, but if I have to watch it on TV then I would really like to be able to see those Warriors Girls in ever so perfect High Def!!!!
It is what it is....

huh?
have you subscribed to the hd package with the hd receiver?  you should get FSN HD then.

I thought Matt Steinmetz looked totally boored....
during their halftime shows. It looked like he would want the show to go another direction. He seemed like he didn't like the subect of conversation most of the time.

I think Jim Barnett is awesome. Sometimes I wish he was the Warriors coach. I thought he kept the coverage alive when Papa left.

Wrong thread, but I have to say it!
I heard that 30% of the T-Wolves is going to be bought by a California investor.

Basically, this means that Minnesota is going to give us KG and Foye as partying gifts.

Thanks for the news item
It makes a great Diary thread for discussion.

Man, why can those guys just buy the Warriors instead?
