2005-2006 REPORT CARD: Adonal Foyle

We're coming down to the end of these report cards. With only 3 to go, Adonal Foyle is up. Mr. Block Machine. Mr. Stone Hands. Mr. Chris Mullin Thinks I'm Good? Mr. I Got PAID! Bad contract and all, we love the guy off the court, but on the court...it's a different story.

Yea Adonal! That's what I'm talkin' bout. (Photo: alternet.org)

Ehhh...what's he doing? Looks like he dancing to the basketball gods. (Photo: CNNSI.com)

Oh my, oh my. I cannot stop laughing at this clip. Posted by: adonalmao

Overall Grade: D-

Atma Brother #1 (Grade: F)
Foyle is probably the worst offensive player in the league and an average defender at best. Adonal has virtually no upside and his game is declining fast. Well I guess it isn't a decline since he never was a good player. Over the years democracy has really mattered to Adonal, but working on his game hasn't. Did I mention he's a nice guy?

DJ Fuzzylogic (Grade: F)
When Mullin said that giving up Foyle to free agency would leave a glaring hole in the middle, my guess was that he probably meant defensively.  But by the way that this guy picks up fouls, he's practically invisible on both ends of the floor.  Foyle's biggest contribution to the Warriors franchise is being the Warriors representation on the NBA Read to Achieve programs.

Fantasy Junkie (Grade: D)
Not an F because he provided lots of funny highlights and pictures for soon-to-be posters. He's slow, has hands of stone, and has not improved since coming out of Colgate. Why he got the large extension is beyond me. Maybe Chris Mullin was seduced by Adonal's charm...ehhh maybe not.

Hash (Grade: F)
Horrendous.

YaoButtaMing (Grade: B) Come on. What do you really expect? Your expectations are too high. I give him a C for heart and Compassion. It's good to have a player who can make their community a little better and not focus in on what bling bling they are wearing. I'm going to miss him.

What grade does Foyle deserve for his 2005-2006 season?

Foyle
A "D". He's a nice guy, I met him at a bookstore in Jack London Square a number of years ago. A very intelligent and well versed cat on a variety of topics.However, he's overpaid, and a liability on offense.

Hopefully Mully can move him to a win - win situation.

are we grading Foyle or Mullin?
I agree with goldenstatefan, Foyle would make an outstanding complimentary player to a playoff team or one that had a dominant low post scorer but as a starter on a non-playoff team without such, he is a weakness. Never the less, are we going to grade him on what he can do, rebound and defend, or for being miscast and overpaid because Mullin panicked at Dumpbeer's departure?

Grading on GSoM is pretty extreme - either D's and F's or high B's A's for players we like to watch, or haven't proved they can't play because Monty's got them riding pine.

What's your grade?
Again, it's easy to criticize grades, but it's difficult to come up with your own.

GSoM is and always will be an open discussion platform. If you think we're missing something, always feel free to missing in the void. It's a community spot. We love the discussion just as much as anyone else.

And no I was grading Mullin- Foyle had an awful season. I think he had about 3 good games all last season. Nice guy tho!

Grades
I know it feels like we give only high or only low grades, so just to let you see the actual grades all next to each other, I put them in the story under the "2005-2006 Report Card Archives" section.

Here's the grade breakdown:
A = 2
B = 1
B- = 2
C+ = 2*
C- = 1
D = 2
D- = 2
F = 2

*Cheaney's C+ doesn't count (it was a joke)

Maybe the grade scale is what you thought it was, but I don't think it's that skewed towards high grades and low grades. But there are more low grades since a losing team really can't have that many high marks.

D+
On a team that sorely needs some sort of defense, Adonal was all they had.  I think this is more because no one in the league is afraid of him in the least, and they take it right at him, so he will get his blocked shots.  However there are no words to describe just how ugly his offensive game is.  He is a role player getting starting center pay and play, not that its entirely his fault.....
Well theres always next year x12

F-
Foyle is garbage. For one he can only jump like 1 inch off tha ground. Which is why he misses like every dunk he attempts. Plus he is a worse shooter than Ben Wallace. Every time he shoots he has a better chance of hitting tha top of tha backboard than tha basket. Also he is so overatted on defense. One on one defense he can not stop none of tha premier players and he has trouble with role and backup players, yeah he does block shots, good for him. But thats all he can do, he sucks at passing and cant catch a basketball when it hits him in his hands. This is one of tha worst signings ever by tha warriors. Foyle needs to stop worrying about political affairs and focus on basketball. And if hes such a nice guy and so smart he should realize that we are overpaying his slow ass, and rework his contract so we can sign a free agent. As long as foyles starts on this team we wont go nowhere cause he is an anchor that is slowing down a fast paced offense. Hopefully Foyle realizes he sucks and retires and gives tha warriors their money back

He's got a great attitude
but Foyle is just really bad (and his contract probably makes him seem worse...).  Some say big men take extra time to season... so should we expect him to be in his prime?  True, its not his fault that we hate his contract, but has this dude ever worked on his game in the off season?  I don't wanna pour the haterade... but isn't it odd that he's the longest tenured Warrior outside of Abdenour, the trainer?

F is not fair
Foyle is so bad that giving him an F is like giving him an A.  This dude deserves an Incomplete.  He needs to be expelled.

I cringe watching this guy, I've gotten too many wrinkles after watching this fool miss an open dunk.

Sure he's a great guy, the only NBA player to be on CSPAN, and quite possibly the smartest man in the world.  But we're not paying this guy All-Star money to be a great guy, we need him to play the game.  He can't even do that.

And shame on Bob and Jim for complementing Foyle when he does something he should be doing.  They act like they won the lottery when Foyle scores a point or grabs a rebound.

I hate his game with a vengeance.
