BREAKING NEWS: Warriors Bring in Coach Silas

You heard it here first when the Warriors brought back Don Nelson. Here's another one about the ever-interesting Warriors coaching carousel-- the Warriors are bringing in Coach Silas.

Coach Poppa Silas: "Hahaha, not me- my son."

Here's a little bit of Stephen Silas' resume from the press release:

Silas, 33, arrives in Oakland with five years of NBA coaching experience after spending two seasons on the bench with the Cleveland Cavaliers and three seasons with the New Orleans/Charlotte Hornets, having worked on the coaching staff of his father, Paul Silas, with both teams. He spent the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons as an assistant coach for the Cavaliers, where he was charged with individual skill work, player development, game preparation, pregame walkthroughs as well as managing and developing technology and NBA scouting systems for the coaching staff.

Be honest- you thought they hired Jamie Foxx from Collateral when you first saw this pic!

Nellie's obviously Da Man right now as far as Warriors head coaches go, but who do you think is being groomed as the replacement?

Mario Elie
I think Mario is still the man next.

And Silas looks more like Damon Jones to me.

Elie has been and continues to be
the choice from this corner as well ... lots of GSoM entries and posts have said likewise throughout the summer before the Don was reannointed ...

nellies way of control
remember wen kawakami said nellie wanted to nothave a succesor? i think this is his way of making sure there isn't one. the warriors now have two young bright coaches and the future after nellie becomes uncertain. nellie can't have liked it that as soon as he steps do avery takes the mavs to the finals. This is his way of keeping control

My Guess
Someone completely new. 3 years is a long time that Ellie shouldn't have to wait. He'll deservedly get gig before then.

I Agree
Mario Elie should have taken over as the head coach over a year ago. He's already waited a year and a half - he's not going to wait any longer - so I don't see him returning this year. So I guess Silas Jr. is Mario Elie's replacement?

I completely agree with the SFist article...

The Warriors: Looking Forward in the Rearview Mirror

Why not Mario Elie? Elie would
immediately bring passion, heart, and freakin' defense to a team that desperately
needs all three. Elie is ready. This year is going to be tough no matter what.
Let Elie and this young roster take their lumps and bond as a team this year,
then head into next season as a team on a mission.

...should have happened a year ago.
