Rumor: Dunleavy + Pietrus for Ely + Wallace Not Happening

Over at Talking Points GSoM friend Tim Kawakami doesn't think a Dunleavy + Pietrus for Wallace + Ely deal would go down (see Rumor: Dunleavy + Pietrus for Gerald Wallace + Ely / Bonzi Signs w/ Bobcats and Rumor: Update- Warriors/ Bobcats Deal. Tim gives some solid reasons:

  • Chris Mullin loves Mike Dunleavy
  • Mullin brought in Don Nelson to morph Dunleavy into a good player
  • It's hard to imagine Michael Jordan being enamored with Dunleavy

Tim does think that a deal for Melvin Ely could go down though. Maybe for Mickael Pietrus? Maybe for Ike Diogu? Definitely check out the rest of his piece.

One point that Tim makes that's in line with what we always stress about rumors is:

Trade rumors aren't evil, though they are almost always wrong.?

Would you trade Pietrus or Diogu for Ely?

99% of rumors never happen, but 99% of them are fun to talk about!

can't get rid of diogu
it wouldn't make any sense to give up on diogu for a player like ely..ike is already showing signs that he is the player that we would hope ely to be if we got him, so there would be no logical reason to make that trade..

but i'm all for going after an athletic guy like gerald wallace..but then again i also like the idea of turning pietrus into a bruce bowen-type player and making him the defensive stopper of the squad..i guess it all depends on nellie's plan for MP

Well....
I wouldn't give up Diogu, since I think he's better than Ely. And as for Pietrus, five words:

POWER
FORWARD
LOCKJAM
BLOCK PARTY!

RUN FOYLE, RUN!!!!

NO
just ely for diogu or pietrus? no way, the only way it would go down is if they included the beast known as gerald wallace!

thank you j
If wallace isnt in the deal, we are shooting ourselves in the foot.  Ely is an interesting big with good bench play potential, not much more.  It makes no sense to give up Diogu, none.  Pietrus is more interesting because of his steady decline since his sophomore season, plus he is probably far more intriguing to the bobcats, who have more than enough undersized PFs.  I still wouldnt do it though, because the this is pietrus' time to prove himself, and im looking for at least a decent campaign out of him.  Everyone has mentioned how Nellie is going to help out MDJ's game, I think he can do just as much for pietrus.  He wont tell him not to shoot, but when it makes the most sense, and thats someting I could not see montgomery doing
Well theres always next year x12

we wouldn't, but Nelson/Mullin might
Twolves are still looking for front court players, I  wouldn't be surprised to see a late training camp deal with them ... the Wallace non-news is a great example of if it's too good to be true ...

No
If we cant get Wallace in tha deal there is no point. And Diogu has shown flashes of being a great scorer

G.Wallace is injuryprone!
Pietrus has been a disappointment but he could do real well in Nelson's run and gun style! GWallace is injured too often to be a real asset!

Definately wouldn't give up Diogu for anyone on the Bobcats, except maybe Okafor
