GSoM EXCLUSIVE Rumor: The Ball is in Mullin's Court
Our anonymous insider has some more information on the "Wallace + Ely for Dunleavy + Pietrus + pick" trade. Basically it looks like the deal is not going to happen because of Mullin's love for Dunleavy. Apparently, his source from Charlotte is saying that the Bobcats are offering the deal to Mullin and they're just waiting on Mullin's response.
We'll try to keep you as updated as possible on this.
Like we always say though, 99% of rumors never happen, but 99% of them are fun to talk about!

yes
BUT IT'S NOT GONNA HAPPEN CAUSE MULLIN IS GAY FOR DUNLEAVY
And when the season is over we'll be wondering why we kept Dunleavy for one more year. The guy is only consistent at being a dissapointment.

come on
4 sho!
Gerald Wallace is exactly what this team needs. A great defender who can rebound and run with Baron and Jason. What Pietrus should be, but will probably never be.
Dunleavy's had 4 years in the league and showed us that he's a below average starter in the NBA. People were hyping up how Monty was going to do wonders for Dun's game. Didn't happen. Why would it be any different under Nelson?
I love Nellie, but he can't make miracles happen and turn MP2 into Gerald Wallace and Mike Dunleavy into Lamar Odom (a real point forward at the 4 spot).

99% of GSoM's sources...
Aw hell, it worked on me!
I love visiting your site compulsively, sometimes several times in any given minute! However, this time, your alleged sources are not very convincing at all, especially since this rumor has not been mentioned ANYWHERE on ANY NEWS SITES on the web, (not even the shady hoops rumor sites). The only thing out there is a mention in like two articles that Ely might leave the 'Cats, but nothing about the Warriors making progress and absolutely nothing at all mentioning anything about Gerald Wallace!
My point is, please stop getting our hopes up and let us enjoy Nellie's return already!
P.S. If by some miracle this does go through, I'm shaving my head to shame myself for posting this comment.
P.P.S. If it does not go through, I am looking into creating the website tradedunleavy.com, so if anyone is interested, holler at me.
P.P.P.S. Ever stop to think that maybe Mullin has promised Dunleavy to someone else and is trying to hold Dun for, I dunno... his daddy?????

P.P.P.P.S.
Will it go down? Haha, who knows? Just because GMs are talking about a deal doesn't mean it will happen. It's all negotiation tactics and smoke tactics. 99% of the rumors you read about never happen, so I wouldn't be surprised if this trade didn't go through (although I hope it does!).
I want to stress we NEVER make up stuff. We're just relaying what we hear or read from legit sources.
If some random guy sent us a tip and they weren't legit, we of course wouldn't even mention it. (Hahaha, so nobody start emailing us random KG to the Warriors rumors just to play a joke on everybody!)

haha. if there were only a way we could relay these messages to Mullins personal email or something...Listen to us!! our voices might be just as smart as your top execs, especially since you've failed for 12 years.
Anyone know?
With the 2007 draft looking so deep .... and the possibility of this being a rent-a-wallace for a year....
WE could be looking at next off season with wallace walking...opting out.... and no pick.... and with our luck it will be the 6ers pick and will be for Oden
So we end up with trading a lot for Ely....
As it is .... I dont think i like this trade.... unless we are talking second round pick
Draft Pick
You're right it makes a huge difference. If it's a 2007 first rounder I probably wouldn't pull the trigger. You never know who that pick could turn out to be in a loaded draft.
As of right now we don't know exactly what pick the Bobcats requested. We'll keep you updated with whatever we hear though.

picks
Draft choices are rarely all that valuable. The first pick is usually a good player and has the best chance of being a great player of any pick, but after that, drafts often cool rapidly. Historically, the 3rd pick has only a 50-50 shot of being an impact player. The higher the pick the better, but it's no guarantee and after the first few picks, odds are that the player won't be a star. Odds are that mid to late lottery picks will be average starters or bench players more often than anything else. The 9 through 11 picks we seem to get year after year have a low likelihood of returning a star. It can happen, but odds don't favor it.
IF the Bobcats would take Philly's protected pick in the deal, I'd make it. IF they want only our own pick, I'd make the deal too (top three protected), figuring that the pick isn't likely to be any better than the lower half of the lottery. The hypothetical immediate gain of Wallace should make that pick even less valuable.
Toss this all out the window if they want more than one first rounder. That's just too much risk too far down the line.
Good points
Normally, I'm with you though. Always move the draft pick for a sure thing. 2007 is a pretty hyped draft class, so I'd approach it differently.

Draft picks are valuable
Picks are one of the three assets a GM has to work with. They offer flexibility and the option to get a needed player and lock them in with restrictive free agency.
In this case, I'd give the Houston pick up for Wallace because the loss is offset by contract flexibility with Wallace. Off-loading Dunleavy's expensive, long term contract for the option of adding salary cap space with Wallaces helps the capped-out GSW.
The player swap can be considered neutral.
GSW gain in contract flexibility - GSW need it.
Bobcats gain a draft pick. Jordan wants these.

Wallace and Assets
Tune into any Bobcat game last year and you'd constanty hear about Wallace's play. Given his play, I thought he was Tim Thomas' size 6'10" and not 6'7".
I'd give up Dunleavy for Wallace.
GMS have 3 assets:
salary cap space
players
draft picks
A trade for Wallaces gives two for onw. GSW get a fairly even trade on players AND get a short contract which lets GSW free cap space sooner -- if they want.

A couple probs;
...OR...
can opt out!
GSW prefers GW to drop that option. That gives time to develop depth at SF. A Team Option in his 3rd year is better still allowing GSW to play him or trade him for talent back at that time. He will also be highly motivated to play his best in the second and third seasons. Now we have improved play at SF for 3 years and that is much closer to the 5 year Dunleavy contract
- Ely is a sign and trade. GSW needs Ely on a 2 year plan also to allow Diogu and Taft to develop. If Diogu and Taft are ready to slot in we can trade Ely and/or Troy for similar quality in return. Nelson has said Troy is his Center but I see Diogu's time split between C/PF as last year. Ely on the depth chart allows this to develop methodically.
So far, in the rumor as stated above; A starter and a backup are being traded by each team. GSW is getting comparable talent but trading away 7 seasons and a high pick but only getting two seasons. This only makes sense if it pushes a team deeper in the playoffs. That is the case if we also get KG but it is not the case in any other scenario.
Run away from this if we don't get the 3 years contract control for both players. That makes it a great trade.
If GSW trades the rest of our roster for single year contracts we will only have a roster next year and no high picks the rest of this decade.
I guess Nelson, Mullin, Mario, etc. would suit up for '07-'08?
