America's Next Biggest Warriors Fan: Runner Up

Here?s the next essay in the Golden State of Mind essay contest, "America's Next Biggest Golden State Warrior Fan." In total, we received 9 entries and to give every one of our entrants their props and due time in the spotlight, we're going to post their essays in full in their own separate posts. We want to extend a special thank you to all of our entrants. Reading your essays was a blast and we enjoyed each and every one of them.

Just to let you know, we each ranked all the essays 1-9 and then tallied the point total. The point totals were so close, and not many points separated the runner ups from the winners. You'll have to hold your breath to find out the winner. We're not going to post them all at once. We want each essay to get its fair share of air time. So, we're going to start with the runner ups individually and then run through the top 3 in separate posts. Keep in mind, the runner ups are not ranked, they will be posted in alphabetical order according to their username.

Here?s our next runner up, pawnograffiti.

Smithy and co-pilot Ulm, who couldn't actually fly a plane at the time, crossed the Pacific Ocean in 1928. Along with Lyon and Warner, they took off from Oakland, California, with the first stage of 2,400 miles to Hawaii. This stage took 27 hours and 27 minutes and was uneventful. Stage two was to Fiji, some 3,100 miles away. Almost immediately they ran into a storm which Smithy fought to the point of exhaustion before handing the controls to the yet unlicensed Ulm. Luckily, they reached Suva some 33 hours later, and then on to Brisbane and the realization that trans-Pacific commercial flight was possible.

25,000 cheering fans greeted them at Brisbane's Eagle Farm Airport. On June 10th they flew on to Sydney in the blue Southern Cross, met there by a throng of 300,000 people, including the Governor-General and State Governor. They had achieved the historic flight the day before, landing to be met by After being feted in Sydney, Smithy and Ulm carried on to England and then across the Atlantic and America to Oakland and the first around-the-world flight. Smithy didn't stop there. He continued to break and rebreak records. (SAMPLED! http://www.acepilots.com/wwi/pio_ksmith.html)

I guess if you Warriors fans need a mascot, it's got to be Charles Kingsford Smith flying that plane. Jason Richardson is a high flyer too. But I think Jason and Charles if both still alive would have shared some secrets on hangtime and gliding. JR has joined Air Jordan in this alete club of high flyers. Wingman Latrell had his glory on the runway but the head high tackles on Carlisimo broke up the once beloved 1st ALL NBA team ( The dude to take Jordan's throne in SG for 1st ALL NBA Team.. He was an amazing talent)

But Charles Kingsford Smith always needed good ground support. Whether it Baron Davis bum knee or twisted ankle, When B diddy is on the runway his like a Air Traffic Controller for Jrich! (What's the ETA on that Alley Oop that left .9 seconds of a go?)

But why did Dunleavy take off from Oakland Airport. It's cause Sir Charles Kingsford Smith wants to see him play like a Kings Forward. He is too hesitant with his guard tendacies he needs to step up and tell his coach "Dun leave me off your flight plan"

But the real person who's got to be flying with his bags packed and his ticket checked in. Montgomery might not travel down to the Airport yet he might just ride the old tram cart through the streets of San Franciso and Don Nelson would be comparable to a UFO. Unidentified Flying Offense

GSoM Comments
  • Sometimes I?d like to fly to Hawaii not to see the Warriors
  • High flying and persistent = JRich
  • JRich aka CKingSmith.
  • Nice analogies in this one! Let's hope the Warriors finally do take flight. Do we have what it takes?
pawnograffiti?s comparison of the Warriors and flights gives a new meaning to the term standby. How much longer do we have to wait to get onto that playoff flight? Well at least you don?t have to wait for your prize. Jessica, tell him what he's won.

Oh snap!
I thought he won Jessica Alba at first.  That's pretty good for runner-up.  What the hell is the winner going to get!?

Man if we were giving out honeys for prizes Jessica (I call her by her first name), would not be for a runner up. Runner ups might get, shoot I don't know, but Jessica would be for one of the top 3.
